I'm afraid I already know the answer to this question... but will it be compatible with the Heroes IV game? Is it an expansion or an entirely new game?

Well what should I say? Instead of being pleased with such a news I'm angry.
While it's a logical step from the economical point of view bringing out a H5CTG my hope was that DGA brings H4CTG out in the mass market to give it a bigger basis around the world. Instead of doing so the resources are used to develop a new game...
The commercial success H4CTG could have is not nearly reached in my opinion. So now H4CTG is dead before it had the chance of being what it could have been.
As far as I'm concerned I am not about to buy a second Heroes CTG. So, like Psychobabble, my last hope is that H5CTG will be an addon to H4CTG but, again like Psychobabble, my hope is low.

Greetings from a disappointed

I completely agree. The Heroes IV game was a bust why wouldn’t this one be? The recourses should have gone to advertising and developing a better existing game and not just making a new one altogether.

I wouldn't go so far. It's a great game I think but it's nearly impossible to buy it in Europe for example. The fan basis here could be much bigger then it actually is.
I'm about to write a very big article about the game for Drachenwald.net - the biggest German Heroes Community Website - to make the game more popular. They didn't even know about the game when I asked if somebody would like to trade cards with me! The article is nearly ready-made.
Now could somebody of the developers answer the question why I should write this article?
I feel like being a test-balloon for the big project H5CTG which comes with the background of a great PC game (and I'm shure it will be great! :-) ).

Don't Freak Out....and Don't Worry about Heroes IV

Alrighty then guys, don't freak out and don't worry about Heroes IV. We are still planning to mass market the Heroes IV CTG (we should have some news soon on that front). As Heroes V is totally different from Heroes IV on the computer, so shall the card games be different. The rules will be somewhat similar, but the differences in the computer games make the experiences very different. I will give you some examples:

1) Heroes don't fight in combat. The diffence this makes in deck building, in game play and in battles themselves are so dramatic that its almost enough to make the games totally different altogether. Since you can't "kill the hero" to make the battle easier to win, everything changes.

2) Creatures don't move without the heroes. This is a major difference in game play that once again, completely changes the game making creature dwellings incredibly important.

3) Screening rather than 3 on the Melee line. Big difference. You will see what I mean when the game is released.

The point I am making is that this game (like the computer game) is meant to appeal to the Heroes III audience, and is a completely different experience. Heroes IV will still be updated. Expansions are still being planned to release around the same time as the Heroes V CTG hits market. Look at this as Digimon and Pokemon. Different games, similar names. You will see.

Some will prefer V, others will prefer IV, but both will be expanded and sell side by side to two overlapping, but distinctly different audiences. I for one being a big Might player will still be playing a lot of IV.

Is it alright if I freak out on a positive note?

Heroes IV is a great CCG!

I can't wait to get a Heroes V CCG with the features you mentioned.

Look for me to be playing both games.

Woo Hoo!

OK - maybe my post was something like a hysterical reaction from me. I didn't want to offend someone or something like that. I'm no native English-speaking person and it could be that I choose the wrong words out of my dictionary...

To let this thread be what it was intended for I will open a new thread containing my concerns about H4CTG later this day.

In some ways Heroes V CCG could help the Heroes IV CCG grow. When Heroes IV CCG came out there was no current PC game on the shelves that the mass market could identify with it. Mostly die-hard Heroes III fanatics were drawn to it when they saw it and some of us picked up the Heroes IV computer game because of it.

Mass market audiences are very fickle. If there is not a current movie, pc game or other form of media available for a subject license they tend to think of it as a "has-been." When Heroes V releases on the PC it will have a good chance of drawing people to the Heroes V CCG. If that is a hit there is a good chance that some marketing can also be done to say, "Want to put your Heroes on the battlefield again? Then give Heroes IV CCG a try."

So to me, this is good news. Not to mention the fact that I am looking forward to both the new computer game and the new CCG.

If questions are still being compiled... consider these...

1) Is the Heroes V card game being considered at all as the PC game is being developed?  In other words... are the designers of the PC game making it at all easier for you to do the card game by purposely adding in elements to the PC game that would carry over well?

2) How much linkage is there between the PC game makers and the Card game makers?  Since it would be in the best interest of both parties to see both do well, would it be possible for advertising inserts to be placed in both products to promote each other?

some questions:

- Is it assumed that H5CTG will hit the mass market or will there be the same problems as with H4CTG?
- Will H5CTG probably help H4CTG to hit the mass market?
- Will there be any intersection between the two games. I mean is there anything in H4CTG that I can use for playing H5CTG (cards, tiles,...) and/or backwards?

Greetings
Loco

I'd be interested to know if the tiles and game pieces (the only detractors frim IV) are being addressed?
Is there any chance that the materials used for constructable mini games could be used?

Hexes in Heroes V will be larger - large enough that those who wish to use 25mm minis will be able to do so. The game will still ship with markers however, so it will be "bring your own miniatures".

Are there any on-line downloads (rules, cardlists, etc.) for the HV version of the CTG game yet?  If so, can someone please post the links?

Also, what should the card mix be a typical Starter or booster?

I picked up a couple of Starters at Origins this weekend and I think collation may be a bit off...  And the selection of spells in the two starters (Undead, Ranger) both seemed to not match up with the Skill cards included with each one (not to mention the spell cards for some of the creatures are not included).
