101 ICTC Improvement Tips Thread
Just to start and keep the ball rolling on how you may want to improve your entries.
Hopefully by refering to this thread you get useful insight on how to improve your threads.
Good luck for the winners on improving their entries.
Add on to the list with the next number and bold that point; following with description (may not be necessary). So the next number will start at 8 onwards since I stopped at 7.
eg. 123. How to strip a vampire.
1. Finding suitable names for your creatures and town/faction.
I think that having a one word name for your town is very ideal as it is easier to remember for gamers instead of having a long name.
Look at the towns or faction names in the older homm series (castle, inferno, dungeon, rampart, towner, fortress, stronghold, conflux, academy, haven, sylvan etc).
2. Simple and meaningful logo
Yes. Avoid fancy ones and make a simple one.
Logo must be of a certain significance for the town or faction.
Eg. Tree signifies the Yggdrasil for the elves, which is the world tree and possibly life.
3. Keeping your entries short and easy to read with appropriate points
Simplify your entry and make it easy to read and understand at the same time is not an easy task.
This makes life easier for the game company if what they intended is to translate your entry into a town idea. Do remember that words BORE people.
4. Pictures and acknowlegements
This is a policy of ethics and not infringing the copyright policy.
If you borrow a book from a library, remember to return the book. If you take a picture from any website, remember to cite the source.
I know that Leonardo Da Vinci may be your friend but still, acknowledge your friends effort as well.
5. Rating policies, opinion and comments of other forum reviewers
Just work out from their policy or their opinion and comments. These people do not come up with such rating because they are too bored with life.
If they did not rate for you then just rate your own thread with their rating and try to understand why they have such a rating system instead of using the standard ones.
If they rated your entries and hurt you, just get over with it. Most people who rate are doing it out of goodwill. Although criticism hurts, but they improves your entry and also makes you a person more tolerant to criticism.
A few notable ones include:
Mine

well i think that even if u shorten ur points, entries may not be neccessary short, i would think that "PACKING" ur entries would be a better word
as an amateur artist, i have been rather dismayed by the contestants ripping art off the internet and posting it under their idea, altho it only shows, but it is against copyright rules.. it would be better should u get permission from the artists themselves or permission to use their artworks
just my 2cents.
