Changing Hero Appearance In Battle?
I think It be cool that heroes change in appearance as they look on the battlefield, as they become more battle hardened from fighting. This could of course be level based and based on the skills they have chosen. I know a hero who chooses the Archery skill will have a bow and all that which is really cool.
At certain level intervals the hero's could get a cooler looking bow and a cooler looking sword as they get better that they hit the opponent heroes and creatures with. Maybe better looking armour could start appearing on them and their horses would really be cool.
Depending on the type of hero maybe he could change in this overall look as well. If he's more of a sword like guy he will be bigger built bodily wise. If hes more of a wizard like guy he will be more inclined to look like one. Really experienced heroes could even have grey beards and things
Then when you start a fight with someone, you would get a nice impression of how bad arse the hero is that your fighting.
It wouldn't be too hard to incorporate this in to the game i am sure. All that needs to be done is certain visual's be changed as the hero develops.

Indeed
Actually depicting the hero in battle with the actual artifacts he is using would in fact make a lot more sense hehe. The really cool artifacts making him look a lot cooler and things would be really nice.
I still think they should start to look more like how they have been developed though
Its just I would like to get a nice impression of how good a hero is when i am fighting him/her in battle. It be nice to see your own hero looking really cool in a fight as well too. Since you would have put a lot of hard work in to developing him/her!

here's my idea
Well, Changing hero's appearance is a good idea but it's very critical this moment for 3DO to implement this feature due to the release of the long awaited HOMM version. Anyway, as I've heared that you can actually change the hero's picture. That would really be interesting.

I think that's an excellent idea, BlueGreen, it'll make the game look more lifelike (which i want it to be).
It's too late for Homm4, and i don't think they're ready for such drastic changes already.
I think it should be implemented in Heroes 5 (if there is going to be one and if were still discussing the issue)

Changing appearance on the battlefield is probably exactly what advancing from basic hero class to an advanced class will do.
