Actually they don't. At least not all the time. You see, there are too many variables that have to be considered. You can spend hours thinking of situations where hydras will wipe any opponent but the same can be done for any other unit. In your post you mention fire shield, but it is pretty easy to counter it with dispel for example; def. reduction - ghost behemots IGNORE defence straight from the beginning; acid damage - ghost behemoths have double strike from stack experience which is much better; chance of deflecting damage - well, behemoths have chance to cast fear which is practically the same; yes, they can't be blinded or slowed but they can be imploded unlike begemoths Of course this doesn't mean ghost begemoths will own hydras, it just means they both have what to show.

Did you checked crag hack vs tazar? without spells? I did. Many times, with many different armies and hero levels. (ye, I'm crazy). Fortress won 100% games with stack experience system on.
You can dispel, but you waste your spell, only to get pwned by frenzy, let's say. Not that easy

Did you check all the other combinations? With spells? Without stack experience? You see, there are countless diferent situations ad it's even hard to think that all of them can be checked.

Well, I agree here, everything depends on situation. However, I still think hydras are great under any circumstances 8)

Ok What about fight against equally costing amount of Mighty Gorgons? Or Supreme Archangels split in 7 stacks which are able to cast 14 resurrections ...

yep thats correct, you cannot have a really strong creature be brought down by a relatively weak spell or something, it just doesnt work that way, if this makes sense then that is good

Well Seeing as though Arch Angels are one of the best units in the game, ofcourse they will have even nicer stats when they have an upgraded form of them.
They can easily beat most of the other Level 8 monsters quite easily.
The main ones that are probably the best are probably Lords of Thunder, Supreme ArchAngel.

Those 2 stand out for me the most, mainly because Lords of Thunder shoot twice, which is an excellent form of attack and a very good add-on for them

I think all those creatures are good.

I just think that Ghost Behemoth is more suitable to the Necropolic then to the Stronghold.
And the same thing with the Hell Hydra. It's sounds like a demon creature.

there are dracoliches, you know! and they laugh in the face of the lords of thunder.
my opinion is that lvl 8 creatures disbalance the game.

I guess a little history on the creation of the Level 8 creatures is needed here. In the early days of creating WoG, it was'nt even known if you could create totally new creatures for the game, so the Level 7 creatures were extracted and redone and given stronger abilities to become what we know now as the Level 8 creatures. These were the "Test" creatures I guess. At the time of WoGs' infant beginnings, these creatures were considered groundbreaking and for the handful of people who played WoG at this time it was something special.
So, just remember, please, that Level 8 creatures started what would later become newer creatures we know and love today. They have their place in HoMM3/WoG and will never go away. If we did, them all the maps up to this point could never be played since they incorporate Level 8 creatures. This is just something to point out to those who don't like Level 8 creatures only.

bRAVO!

Nice history of  WoG.

You should get payed for this =)

Well I think that Archangels are the best and strongest.

But for most people I think at least. They like a challenge and usually dont pick castle except if tehy want to be cheap and own everything.

By that saying if the angels are the best. Because there attck and def are 40 they should either cost much much more, or their pop should be only 1 per week. Or they should be made weaker.

I think taht lvl 8 creatures shouldnt be the stronger or weaker creatures, they should be the ones who represent the castle with special abilities.

For Example:

Rampart-The Upgraded Gold dragons should be dragons that have to do somethig with wood, like Forest Dragons I mean thats what all of rampart is about. But thats not really important, the special abils should represent them, so the dragons (if dragons) should have bind, the abil taht treants use.

Necropolis-The Blood dragon could stay, but it should have a animate, or reanimate dead ability, like a warcry that tells the skels to serve their necro. Well that wouldnt work cause they dont have brains so a better one would be-To convert some of their enemies into skels, like necromancy but in battle. The things for Necropolis are endless.

Castle-The Angel already has been done to perfection, I think It should be able to cast mass prayer or something. You know, their angels. Morale isnt enough.

Inferno-Well This isnt really hard, the devils seem to be like mean bosses, so they should have some ability like bloodlust, but higher. like the opposite of angels, but positive.

Conflux-I think that the level 8 creature for conflux should be like a combination of elements, instead of a sacred phoenix it should be a elemental phoenix, that casts element defense before battle on all ally creatures.

Tower-Not Hard, The Titans dont really have any abilities affecting the army, Because the tower town is more concentrated on magic, I think the 8th level should be soemthing of a caster, Like a faerie dragon but titan.

Fortress-Well This town doesnt really seem like it would have any REAL importance, because the grove town is coming to replace it, Im sure theyyl think of something.

Dungepon-Ah, my favorite. The 8th level Black Dragons should have Rage. Something like Frenzy.

william, in your introduction of the sacred phoenix, you said :

"Fire shield and immunity to Fire magic is also very good, but in my opinion Fire Magic does not have the worst of spells, probably Earth Magic has the worst spells, and Air Magic probably comes next in my opinion, but still that would mean you would be immune against such spells as Armaggedon, which can be really powerful."

it would be nice to clarify your usage of the word "worst" for people who'd use "best" in that place.

If you looked I said probably, which doesnt mean it definately has.

If I was to say it actually did have the worst spells I would have said:

Earth Spells are the worst.

And that was written ages ago, I probably have a different opinion now

so, now you say earth spells are not the worst. but probably there is an ancient thread discussing the spells and we can't say anything new. just think of the secondary skill which you always want to have - for me it's earth magic. what's it for you?
