Eurovision 2006 - Awesome Finland Won!!!

Great performance by the finnish rock group Lordi won them 260 points and the first place in the Eurovision song contest of 2006!

"Hard rock Hallelujah" was the best song by far and deserved the top spot, but what people are sure going to talk about is their look. Getting dressed like monsters with horns, blood, wigs and make up and stuff surely gave them the advantage. As when the time comes to voting, people always think about the act that they have remmembered the most of the night... And how the hell can you forget something like that!

Great performance and a great song I recommend everyone to google it or download it.

Russia took second, I personally voted for them and Dima Bilan, I have almost all of his songs in my collection and I sing them quite often in the shower...

Do you really think so?! I would not recommend any of the songs from eurovision 2006. There is absolutely no musical quality in any of them. Just think about the Lithuanian song (I don't think it even deserves that title).

There is too much focus on the stage show and nowadys nearly all the songs are mainstream low quality pop.
Furthermore the voting system is so corrupt. Naraly all the countries give their neighbours top scores.
I'm confounded at the interest people show for eurovision, considering that so much good music can be found/heard elsewhere.

Lordi? Puh-lease!

Lordi is to metal as MC Hammer is to hiphop. Except that MC Hammer is DA BOMB

Who said something about metal? I just said rock band, and I agree that they are a joke if you compare them to some top american bands or even mideocre ones but common you just cannot say that their performance wasn't awesome, with those funky costumes... Was just like some halloween party!

I also liked the romanian song "Tornero" and thought it was catchy like hell, and who didn't like the macedonian singer chick Grrrrrr! Those tight short panties , yauzza...

Of course the funniest part is that Finland has never won before and I guess they also got the most points ever in the competition history. With one sweep they made history in so many ways that it's like close to miracle.

Apart from that the most significant thing was that they certainly added spice to the usual sugarish competition full of women or men singing these age old pop melodies of longing love again and again. Lordi might have been the best thing that has happened to the competition for ages. Before it was blast from the past, now there's room for something new.

I must say that destiny had it that they would win.

best Eurovision ever!

this year's eurovision was the best one ever... there were songs that relied on more than tight pants and cute girls (no pun intended towards FYROM - and don't call it "Macedonia" ...completely inaccurate) ...there were songs that were not like carbon copies of each other

Norway, Finland, France, UK, Lithuania... call me crazy but I liked those... and a couple of others

on that note, I voted for Finland and found "our" song (Greece) to be an abomination and "our" representative foul at best...

eurovision is by definition almost not a musical contest... but this year, I think there was more than the usual crap

There's another person who does not have any sence of humor... oh well..

For me, from all songs I think that Lordi deserved to win this year, aside of our song, Bostnia, Ireland and coupule of otheres, there were same naked chicks, boob swing, bad singing and maskarade shown as always... boooring... At least something was much different this year and I'm happy for it...

@ Lich_King

That's not a fair qoute Lich_King. I wrote: "Just think about the Lithuanian song .
That "song" (if I may) actually gave me a good laugh, simply because it was so bad (those guys must have lost some bet).
I see Finland's victory as a reaction towards the below radio standard mainstream pop songs that four of five nations present. Therefore I'm glad that Finland won.

The biggest problem about this contest is, the vote system in my eyes. Nobody can tell me, the serbs love the bosnian and macedonian people that much so they always give 10 or 12 points to each other. Why does greece always get 12 points from cyprus? (and most of the time vice versa..) They all do, what more and more (young) people from oher countries have copied now. They just drive to a neighbour country behind the boarder and then vote for their own country. In my eyes, the sense of that contest has completely changed into another MTV award contest. And thatīs not the way it should be (in my eyes).
I did like the band from finland and i also think the "quality" of their performance was for sure one of the best, so they prolly deserved to win. But the reason, why the countries send more and more hot chicks or hot guys instead of quality is just because of that described system above. Kiddies with the age of 13-18 are the most voters i bet. If the Oscar award would be decided by the fans, Jen. Lopez, Hale Berry and Jessica Alba would have recieved 6 Oscars already....at least.

I always wondered if so many people really watched the show... I guess it's true.

I can tell you. The fact is the war ended ten years ago and the people, especially the young, enjoy listening to music regardless of its origin. You may know that Serbian, Croat and Bosnian are actually very similar, while most of us are able to understand the lyrics in Slovenian and Macedonian, too. Most of those songs are hits here before they are played at Eurovision. Finally, there are people who are nostalgic of former Yugoslavia as well.

"Another MTV contest"...? LOL Please don't insult MTV this way!

This competition has always been the worst of the worst (and puh-lease, no ABBA fans ... don't get me started).

LOOOL What quality? I have no idea what you listen to, but these songs have been the same as those ten years ago - 100% trash.

The "blind people" (24 countries participating in the contest) and the Cyclop (finland rock band) were NOT refered to you, but to the contest on saturday.

The neighbour vote could be true but not always, did you notice that the UK did not recieve even 1 point from Ireland? And the scandinavian countries also were not very generous between themselves. The only neighbours that have stucked together were the former yugoslavia and the soviet union.

In case of Israel a 3 times winner which has no neighbours at all (and like duhhrr, what europe!?) who can vote for them this assumption clearly does not fit and yet they still managed to pull 3 wins . But this year ony 23rd place , it's semi final time again.

I guess it was an act of discrimination against an afro-american representing Israel, omg how lame is that!

You still don't understand... The song intended to be sucky and outrageous, since the whole "trying to be the best at all costs" and all those sweet songs... people are already fed up... and in lithuania, people here always sent groups and songs which "should WIN"... and they never did, on contrary, they sucked so much that they got last places, so with that song showed irony on the eurovision contest in general and by the line "we are the winners, <...>" there was a sarcasm intended about our sucky last places few years in a row...

I didn't watch Eurovision except a quick glance to see who's making a joke of Poland this time. But from what I've heard, the Lithuanian entry was more of an amusing joke on Eurovision than an actual song. I wish I saw it, because it sounded funny in description.
