i like the game.  a lot.  i'm tired of uninformed reviews.. although most of the uninformed reviews STILL give it a pretty good rating.. 8-9 out of 10ish.  but so many of them talk about it being a h3 clone.. GOSH it sure plays a lot different to be a h3 clone.  castle building is a lot different, hero building different, battle different.. what core element is left unchanged?  lol.  people are dumb.

games never ship without bugs.  for every bug there's 10s of things that you can point at and be like "wow.. that was really well done.. you can tell they really thought about that."  And, for the 100th time, if you don't like the game, then don't make it your main mission in life (by posting 3 different threads entitled "h5 is a joke", for instance) to make sure that everyone else thinks the same as you and dislikes the game.  what's the point?  just go away if you hate it.  that would just be like going to a soccer game with your friends who are soccer fans and ridiculing the game mechanics the whole time.  they're gonna tell you to just shut up.  You'd think some of those people are priests trying to convert unbelievers the way they wake at dawn and go all day preaching without end.  [not that i'm not preaching right now, but this is a one-time thing ]

also, bugs can be fixed.  don't come in here and tell us that the game "sucks" just cuz you had a crash.  the end.

But our money who goes to NIVAL is not at all bugged.

And yes, most of us are dumb enough to buy anything related to HoMM series, and this NIVAL knows it very well. Thats why they are able to make such a scarce manual for dumb people. From what I see the "skill" path is VERY complex for each race and this subject (as many others) are completelly ignored by the manual. Buildings? Races? Artefacts anyone? We are dumb addicted customers for them.

Normally after HoMM 4 we should step to another game and never comeback. Easy to say...

H5 looks nice to me so far, a lot of favorite h3 elements are back (chaining, hero spec, hero abilities in numbers)...I think it will good in the end, especially after some rigorous patching.

I'm happy so far...but is this game bugged to the point of non-playability? I havent seen that yet.

I'm pretty happy with it as well. I hope I didn't give an impression otherwise. I'm just not thrilled with the UBI gaming site which doesn't seem to have been given much thought. The game itsself though I'm having a great time with and so far haven't run across any major bugs or anything that causes me any problems. I'm looking forward to a long weekend of gaming and beyond!

I'm starting to think that slow connections might be a problem here. There is no way to tell what your ping is on ubi.com. Alot of out-of-synch issues it seems.

ok, i won't deny that the game is not well-documented.  the skill system is very complex, and clearly took many times more time to think up and work out than all the previous HOMM skill-systems.. combined.  the thing is very complex.  but that's a good thing, from what i've seen so far.

Skills/Abilities  <--- go there.  change which race you're looking at from one of the drop-down menus near the top.  cuz different hero types have different abilities even if it is the same primary skill.  My personal favorite "special" ability as far as accessibility + usefulness goes is the Ranger's "Corrupted Soil".  All you have to do (and believe me, this is a LOT less than most of the specials require) is have a Ranger hero (so you don't actually hafto be sylvan), get Dark Magic as a primary skill.  Then Master of Pain subskill underneath Dark Magic.  Then you can be offered Corrupted Soil.  If you go this path immediately (so the only primary skills your Ranger has are Dark Magic and Avenger and whatever else he started with) then your chances of getting it offered when you're eligible for it really aren't that bad.  If you get lucky enough to have the right stuff offered every single time, then technically you can have Corrupted Soil when your reach Level 4(assuming you didnt get Dark Magic from a witch hut or start with it, in which case you could reach it at Level 3 even).  So what does it do?  it makes the battlefield "corrupt" so that whenever an enemy creature moves it takes fire damage.  The description says that the damage is equal to the hero's level, but I know that is wrong, because it was doing 57 dmg when my hero was in the mid-teens.  My spellpower was only 5 though, so.. maybe it has more to do with that.  Maybe does 11.5dmg x spellpower.  Needs to be figured out.  Regardless, it seems pretty powerful.. every time an enemy creature moves, they take 57 (or whatever it might be) dmg.. that can add up fast.  and costs the hero no mana or anything.

p.s.  tell me again that h5 is a h3 clone.. there is NOTHING like that ^ ^ in h3

It doesn't seem complex at all imo. Just don't expect to find the best paths the day you buy the game. And like blue_camel said, check out the AoH site for information about the game (updated info) - great for reference.

Guess, hero level damage here is the amount of the damage your hero would deal to the enemy creature with direct attack

Well here's my rant...

I wanted the Collector's Ed. and so pre-ordered it at the local Gamestop.  Go in on the arrival date I was given, and ofcourse "It'll be here tomorrow".  I return the next day and pick it up....wait a minute...this is the Limited Edition, not the Collectors!!!...After a couple days of "We'll see what we can do."  It turns out I'm screwed, the Collector's isnt' even in their system, and they never could of got it.  Now I'm out $60 for a $50 game, and have copies of H3 and 4 that I already owned...

While the above isn't UBI's fault, here's what is...

I open this LE and it's larger than regular edition's box, and find a  case that's exactly the same size as the regular one...wtf?  Inside are 3 discs stacked on top of each other and a standard manual.  So I got nothing for the extra $10 but copies of games I already have, and a DVD I might watch twice...ever.

Now it'll be Wensday before I can play, and all I can say is this had better be a great game

very good guess, but i dunno.. i know hero does diff damage depending on what creature he attacks, but a ~L15 ranger should do more than 57 dmg i think.  but possible.. i need to test this more.

i agree, the basic stuff is simple, but once you get into some of the "special" skills you have requirements from all over the place and it gets confusing (at least for a weak mind like mine I forgot that you are the viking)

I think i will rant abit too

I feel sorry for those who have computers not bought within the last 3 months beacuse it will not be up to par.. Unless you got some real nice video card. You literally need a super computer to enjoy the game (I had to buy a new video card for my super computer because it was running VERY choppy)

Apart from the specs this game isn't that bad per sae, alot of issues to be worked out in multiplayer, such as random disconnects or game freeze for no reason. My wife and I tried playing several games, me on my computer her on her newish emachine which suprisenly runs it okay. It worked swimmingly till we realized autosave isn't a default and will reset back to no autosave if you get disconnected or booted out of the game even if u selected it and applied changes.

We do like the campaignes and I hope to god that the map editor will be decent so we can get some decent maps into the whole online thing.

I think this ranting is over.

ok, so i know i was tellin everyone to stop complaining earlier, but i have a complaint of my own.  i played one of the MP maps "Land of Outcasts" against the comp (who btw is not hardly as inept as the h4 AI ever was, and a little better than the h3 one, maybe..), and by the end my main had 4 petrified breastplates, 3 windwalker shoes, 3 of something else, a couple of some other breastplate..  there's like 1/10 (or maybe less than that even) as many artifacts as there were in h3 or h4 right now.  seeing as how it looks like there's only ~15 total artifacts in the game, and artys have always been a fairly big part of the game, i would say this is one of the chief things that needs to be addressed in the early patches.  game is real fun to play, but that few artys is a joke.

It seems theres more complaints but also equal amounts of positive feedback on the game itself.
Most is from the bugs.
Heroes 3 had bugs also but when it got patched up it became alot better.
I am confident that when we get these problems patched up, we can play more & even more sub tournies.
For now it is best to keep it at a minimal until these problems are fixed at least till it can be played without many crashes.
