I was in love with Iris's avatar

I was in love with Iris’s avatar

Aerie was a cleric/mage.
She was the frailest member of the party yet she was indespensable.  So young and innocent yet capable of such amazing things.  I fell for her hard.

We started flirting.  She told me of her upbringing.  I told her about the mysteries surrounding mine.  We were an amazing team.  Through thick and thin I kept her safe yet I lost track of the number of times that she was the decisive edge in a battle.

We were entering the Copper Coronet when we got ambushed by the thieves guild.  She started talking philosophy with me.  I forget my exact words but it was something to the effect of  “SHUT the **** up and focus on the battle.”  My anger was genuine but I realized too late that I should have been more tactfull.
“Okay” she said.  “I’ll never bother you again.”

Oh how I regretted using that tone of voice.  Throughout the coming weeks I longed for her to speak to me again like she did before.  How I wanted to just see her smile at me.  But she behaved only professionally.  “Who do you want me to heal?”  or “Where do you want me to explode my fireball?”.

It continued like that until she was murdered by the drow.   I brought her back though.  She was in my arms and I hoped upon hope that she would remember how it was before the incident.  “What do you want me to do now?”  She said.  I was crushed.  I was destroyed.  I was numb.

I won the battle against Irenicus, sure.  And then I won the battle against Irenicus again, yeah.   But in truth…

I lost the game.

Ah Yes . . .

Aerie, the aloof half-elf. (try saying that 5 times fast) Aerie indeed; empty clouds for a mind! I avoided her whenever I could. She epitomizes everything both I and my wife despise in women who afford men their simplistic and ignorant view of the female role in society. She is the demi God of male fantasy meant to be placed high on a pedestal for men to worship and protect. Where was the struggle? Where were the real-life pains of femininity? Where was the respect and beauty of her accomplishments despite a world ruled by men? Where was the love of siblings and children? She spoke not a word of her relationships with mother and father. She was nothing more than a grotesquely animated china doll with the illusion of a faerie's life. Faery seems appropriate indeed; small, insignificant, sexual object, unable to affect the world she lived in, no vocal substance of character and vitality . . . in a word: Pathetic. These very unrealistic characteristics made her an especially loathed character for me.

Shar Teel was everything she could never be. She was handy with a sword, accepted no help from anyone, and always expected to prove herself first. In her swordplay, she was trained by the elves you know. Her father was a corrupt police chief in the city of Baldur's gate who was being paid off by the Iron Throne. (more specifically, Sarevok himself) Shar Teel was also a wandering swordswoman too. Where her travels took her, only fate would know. But one thing is certain: she'd be six feet under before accepting charity from a chauvanistic man whose idea of a woman was that of an animated doll ready to serve the true master! Ha!

FriendofGunnar, I believe you have just made a new friend. MWAHAhahaha! HAHAhahaha! Send your lass my way and I'll have Shar Teel give her a lesson in reality!

Beauty!

Lies in the eye of the beholder. I'm just one of those guys who loves athletic chicks. I really dig watching women fencing matches. And it just so happens . . . the women's gold medal-winning world's best fencer from the 2004 Olympics was from the city of Beaverton Oregon!

Quote:
For the first time in a century, the United States won a gold medal in Olympic fencing, and it added a bronze for good measure.

Oregon resident Mariel Zagunis beat Tan Xue of China 15-9 in the saber final, and American Sada Jacobson was third, beating Catalina Gheorghitoaia of Romania 15-7. The United States had never won a medal in women's fencing. The last American medal in the sport was in Los Angeles in 1984, when Peter Westbrook won the bronze in men's saber. Zagunis, of Beaverton, Oregon, controlled the final, charging in on the opening point to score the first touch. Throughout the bout she took the initiative, scoring repeatedly on direct attacks. She also had enough versatility to defend herself on Tan's charges, and score on the counter-attack.

BTW for all of you still confused about this thread I'll explain.  Aerie  and Shar-Teel were characters in maybe the greatest RPG of all time Baldur's Gate 2.  One of the great things about it was that the designers were brilliant enough to include in the RPG possibilities of romance with all the characters depending on how you reacted to their flirting.  I was hot for Aerie and we we're progressing swimmingly until the afore-mentioned ambush in front of the Copper Coronet.  Aerie started flirting with me but I stayed in character and told her to "shut the **** up" which effectively shut down the "romance tree" for that character.(the flirting came at random times and she just happened to pick a time when we we're in the deadly fight)  Also you could only flirt with one character or the other's would get jealous so I spurned Viconia's (a dark elf) and other's advances in the vain hope that I could restart the "romance tree" with Aerie.  Anyway, long story short, she never did, I never did.  *sigh* we never did.

God I Love This Thread!

Minsc was awesome! He really lightened the mood for my party. Comic relief is a must, especially among large adventuring travelling parties set out to save the world; defeating blood-thirsty maniacal wizards as they go.

I used to click on the little chipmunk, Boo, in his carrying pouch like it was the gem button in the DiabloII chat rooms. "peep, squeek, eep!"
