I find it hard you actually like Romania. History aside, how do you deal with the hordes of gypsyes, mountains of trash in the streets, that "wonderfull music" we call "manele", idiots which are public figures such as Becali, and so on. I study history, but everyday reality makes me sick to my stomach.

A word of advice: if you do visit romania, whoever you are, DON'T, under any circumstances, visit Bucharest.

Haha, you Romanians have high thoughts about yourselves. But there are so many errors in that movie that you fail to see it as the joke it really is. Pilsner Urquell is from Romania? That's ridiculous, everybody knows it's from the Czech Republic. It's well made though.

I'm from Greece.I'm "proud" of it only of our history and past.I don't like the present situation and i think my country "sucks".
I think other countries with no history at all are much more better than mine.
So history is practically now only a lesson in school.
We nowadays greeks have nothing to do with the ancients greeks.
Too bad,we are all here talking about the past and try to believe we are   the "best" nation of the world.
All start from history. The history they teach us in school.I 've read recently Turkey's history, the history they teach in school. I was felt like an alien. All different. Not only Turkey's but others countries too.
History in school like subject has a purpose. To make as the best "patriots" or to say better nationalists.BS

Oh that's a quite simple thinking.
Well if my country didn't exist now democracy wouldn't exist(unless someone else would invented)
Mathematics wouldn't be upper.Philosophy too.
Mythology wouldn't exists at all.Heroes series would be poorer. We wouldn't have many creatures like hydra, medusa, giant, colossus, titan, cyclop and many others i can't remember. All these creatures are taken from greek mythology.
But there's no point to mention what every country gave us. But i like it
Also i want to tell what USA gave us.
They gave us hollywood. They gave us the best musicians and music ever imo. They gave us heroes. The gave us pcs. They gave us a lot of very "goodies" that make me to thanks them. They gave us junk food. It's not healthy but all we love it.Only one thing i hate of them(i say them, generally like nation as we talk generally about nations) WARS and world wide pollution. But we can't have all.
If there weren't the wars i could speak clearly for one of the top countries today in all over the world. But for this i hate them.

Well, for starters, since Nikola Tesla was a Serb, if the Serbs never existed then it would be unknown how to transport and further use electricity, and imagine the world without it. Someone would probably eventually discover that, but much later. We certainly wouldn't have the internet in the 90s.
If the Serbs hadn't protested against Yugoslavia allying with the Nazis in WW2 (unlike other peoples inhabiting the country, like, say, Croatians who made parades when Hitler's troops marched into their cities), Hitler wouldn't declare war upon Yugoslavia; and if Hitler didn't declare war on Yugoslavia, he would ally with it and wouldn't postpone the invasion of Russia; and if he didn't postpone the invasion of Russia, he would probably conquer more of it (especially considering the entire Balkans, except Greece, would be allied with him, which would give him additional troops) before winter and it would be far harder for the Red Army to drive them back.
Then, dwelling into further history, if the Serbs hadn't stood against the Turks in the 14th century, and decimated their main attack force, the Turkish empire would probably conquer Vienna and more parts of Europe. Perhaps even the Vatican. Although that would be fun to see.

But there's no point in looking at "what if" situations. It was the way it was and that was the only way it could be. I mean, we can never be certain what would happen if some things didn't.

I don't think it is the "country" who gives us the mentioned things. It is the individual human being who invented that kind of "technique".
If Greece wouldn't have existed, guys like Sokrates, Aristoteles or Platon would have lived somewhere else with other names and invented their phylosophy, mathematiques and physics for a different country.
If the USA would not exist, 2 similar guys like Steve Jobbs and William Gates from any other country would have found a way to build a personal computer.
It's never the country....it's the man (human).

Never hail a whole country for a single human's invention, and never blame a whole country for a single human's failures.

If Germany wouldn't exist, someone else would have invented "Bratwurst & Sauerkraut"..

U have a point and i'm agree with u in a way.But i disagree.I think it's the country or the place that matters more than the individual.
For example do u think that we now could discuss about Socrates for example if he had born in south america or china or somewhere else. Also it's the right timing.Or we would know Jim Hendrix before the guitar invented? All are matter of place and timing. It's not luck or destiny that all these great philosophers were in the same place.
To tell it clearly they had solve all their survival problems and they were sitting under a tree all the day with some little boys having great time and the only thing they had to do is thinking and "philosophizing".In the most places in the world those years people were living in caves and figuring out the fire. How could those people think something upper than food?

Agreed... Although it could have been a lot quieter in the Middle East...

I'm Israely and I'm proud of it. Looking at our history, you can see some great stuff we did (win hard wars like Milchemet Ha'atzmaot (Independence War) and Milchemet Yom Hakipurim (Yom Kipur's War)) and did you know that Pentium 3 and 4 were developed in Israel... As well as the world's first Firewall program... Also, Jews would be scattered all over the world, which could have resulted in another Holocaust

The worlds first computer is developed by bulgarian, like the first digital clock and the mobilephone, since year 917 Bulgaria was the 3th great empire of the Middle Ages.

The world's oldest golden treasure was discovered in Bulgaria - it is 6,500 years old.

The best (who still play) chess grandmaster of the world is bulgarian

The kyrilic alphabet of all "kyrilic" languages is based on the Saints Clement of Ohrid first kyrilic alphabet.

The turks tred to invade Europe 3 times, the first 2 times they are stoped by us, the last 3th time, no one stoped them for real

The first air-dropped bomb in military history was developed by the Bulgarian Air Force during the First Balkan War, and used on 16 October 1912 by Lieuts. Radul Milkov and Prodan Tarakchiev. Rayna Kasabova was the first woman ever to take part in a combat air mission, accomplished on 30 October 1912.

In 632, Bulgaria is Europe's oldest state with internationally recognized independence

In the history Bulgaria never lost a flag, captured by an enemy army.

Any source to underline your statements?

1. Mobilphone: Founded 1926 in a telephonservice department of the "German Reichsbahn". The mobiles we know today were published first by Motorola 1983.

2. Digital clock was founded by Dr. NakaMats, a japanese inventor who has the most numbers of inventions (Thomas A. Edison is ranked second).

3. The Z3 (1941 by Konrad Zuse) was the first working machine featuring binary arithmetic, including floating point arithmetic and a measure of programmability. In 1998 the Z3 was proved to be Turing complete, therefore being the world's first operational computer.

Strange, I have never heard of that. Would you please elaborate that? Or have they been little more than skirmishes on the border? I wouldn't be surprised. As far as I know, Bulgaria showed far less resistance to the Turks than Serbia...

Like I said, if we hadn't tried to, they would take far more than just Balkans.
Here are some details about the greatest battle that was led in the Balkans against Turks... It's quite interesting, at least for me.

Poor little brats.
Its actually quite amusing reading this thread as a textbook example of Balkan nationalist mythologisms. You have them all: Serb, Bulgarian, Greek, Romanian measuring the size of their country's penises, and as it usually goes with that- it's all grossly exaggerated.

HoMaM,

Very insightful thought there.

It's meaningless. Now it's the person, the individual about the "father" of pc but it's pointless.Ok i accept thet this Vulgarian u said he invented. But now we are using pcs cause of USA not this Vulgarian mind. And if he wasn't him someone else would be.
All i want to say is what angelito said.In this case it's the person,NOT the country. But in other cases it's the country.
It's so easy to all of us if we want to praise our country to saay things that people from our country invented or found.
I can say to u that Einstain's theorie "E=mc^2" wasn't Einstein's.It was taken from a greek scientist named Yiorgos Karatheodoris. But who knows Karatheodoris? Some greeks only. It's the same thing.
