Renegades

Renegades
The Heroes V Expansion will be the first to feature 'Renegades'. These are seemingly rebellious units who have been ostracised from their community. The story goes that a band of Haven followers break away from the mainstream town and form their own crusade against the demon army. These renegades oppose their own faction (Haven) and wear the colour red. They cannot be purchased in-town - the only way to recruit them is from the adventure map.

The Renegades are alternative upgrade units, and are listed below with their respective abilities:

1. Brute. (Taxpayer, Shield Bash)

2. Crossbowman. (Shooter, Rapid Fire)

3. Vindicator. (Cleave)

4. Battle Griffin. (Large, Flyer, Unlimited Retaliation, Battle Frenzy)

5. Zealot. (Shooter, No Melee Penalty, Caster)

6. Champion. (Large, Champion Charge)

7. Fallen Angel. (Large, Flyer, Life Drain)

Cleave. If this creature’s attack kills at least one creature in the target stack, it performs an additional strike.

Battle Frenzy. Every next retaliation strike performed by this creature inflicts damage 1.5 times as great as the previous one.

Champion Charge. If this creature has walked more than 2 tiles when attacking, it also inflicts half damage on the stack standing in the line of attack immediately behind the primary target.

I was just curious what people thought about these new units. Personally I like them, or what I know of them so far, and kind of wish there was a better way to recruit them.

For that Nival should create alternative upgrade paths for all other factions or at least make sure they are equally powerful with the original units. It would be fun being able to choose and make your opponent wonder what he's up against. Then again it depends on how well it would be implemented.

I think it's a great idea, but I don't think we'll see this for all towns and outside campaigns - but what do I know. However, the Renegade Haven seems to be overall stronger than the usual one - just look at the Brute, which has Peasant AND Conscript special, and also the probably increadibly powerfull Archangel with Life Drain. *gasp*

Thats something thats been hoped for since the announcement of Heroes 4. Instead we got the horrible system for that, and then we went back to the usual Heros 3 linear system. I'm all for adding stuff that would make the game more intresting, especially this. although I can see where it would be difficult to come up with that many new units. However, one could hope a few options in each faction.
Thing I'm most wondering is War Griffons. If they are less fragile than imperials I could see them becoming the best tanks in the game. Also fallen angels can't ressurect but if their life drain is good enough, They'd be up there with Black Dragons for first place on the level 7s.

let me guess: zealots are inquisitors with boosted damage and possibly better spells, fallen angels are unkillable, champions are even stronger than paladins.. etc. bah, make a renegade haven castle ;p

WHERE ARE THE CRUSADERS?

It would be smarter/ more realistic if they were weaker than the usual Haven creatures. They're Renegades.

I don't see why they would go through the trouble of adding in weaker versions of troops that already exist. I think it's smartest to expect them to be different yet equal. I merely thought the griffon would be stronger since it lost "dive" and seems to be more tankish.

I wish it was a seperate faction that you can choose from the multiplayer menu.  We don't need it for every faction though I would not object.  But, if we had these renegade humans as a seperate choosable faction and the dwarves that would bring the total of factions to 8 which seems a good number.

Also, though, there are plans for a second expansion which will bring another town.

Yall do know that these units are NEUTRAL, correct. Neutral units are generally overpowered because they are NEUTRAL and their growth rate cannot match that of towns.

Granted but I don't see the point in providing a unit with Taxpayer if it is always neutral. It says they can be recruited from the adventure map, I wonder if that'll include neutral dwellings.

This should be a separate faction with their own cool town. They used to be demon slayers then they got corrupted by demonic magic. The coolness factor is 11/10 for these units even though they're not that different from haven. I wonder what their town should look like. Renegade Castle. I bet this could be modded in somehow.

The idea of renegade troops sounds very interesting. Although I'm still not sure how you will get them. If they really are UPGRADE versions of the haven units I doubt that they will have their own dwellings. Maybe there will be special places where you can upgrade haven units into renegades or maybe special heroes, something like Gelu and his sharpshooters in Heroes 3.

What’s the point of being a renegade if you still have to pay taxes?

I believe that this so called renegades will infact take over Talonguard and most of the Holy Griffin Empire under Isabel's rule and prepare the coming of the dark messiah. I think that the normal haven creatures which will probably be lead by Godric or someone else       (Freyda) will become the renegades. Isabel said that the kingdom needed a new priesthood (an evil one most certainly) this would explain why these alternate upgrades look mean.

renegades are really good idea. but i would to see several new creatures from mixed factions, like "undead knight" (haven+necropolis), or "hell mage" (inf+academy) or something like that

Fallen Angels are a bad idea. Basically Devils are fallen angels. And besides, they make angels look bad. Since when are Angels merceneric and serve humans for lowly amounts of gold? o.0

I want my Crusaders back. =/
