Balista Banned from My Army!!

Balista is pretty much worthless and wont be joining my main army late in the game...and especially heading into final battles etc.

Just had a huge battle with 69 Arch Devils on Battle for Honor 2006 map... and everytime I would cast a spell on arch devils the retarded balista would shoot at devils and cancel it lol. And balista doesnt actually do any serious damage at that stage so no need to have it there if its only gonna screw ya.

Not a bug.... the spell puppet master is supposed to be canceled when unit is attacked.

Get ballistics so you can control it Besides they upgraded it a little and you can get much more HP with the ballista.

But I do agree.. the balista seems to Eff things up when you can't control it.. like when it shoots those succubi's ughh

In 1.3 Puppet Master works forever (limited by spellpower), even if target is hit, but you can only have one Pupped Mastered creature on the battlefield.

that is insanely strong.  Since there is no spell that can counter it... a final battle could very well have your 12 Arch Devils fighting for the other team for 6 turns. And nothing you can do about it??  The more they update the less realistic this game gets.  Its obvious they dont consider the multiplayer side at all!!!

werd but i agree with JB on this one

been grabbing war machines skill more and more, not just the ballista but all the machines, tent/cart and catapult get huge upgrades with it. as well, your ammo cart ups the damage done by all archers on field. tent when you get skill will not only heal more but res. critters as well. to me it's a must have skill. also, after every fight, if ya gots the requisite skillset, you get cart and tent back for free. Not to mention, one of the top 3 heroes in game is machine specialist deleb for demon town. her ballista does stupid damage with fireball spell. tohers are alrdy banning her from games as unfair advantage yuppers, machines are not just a throw away skillset anymore.

Yes, but the initiative of these Devils will be so crippled, that they will act maybe twice during those 6 turns. Until now, I found Puppet Master spell completly useless, because those units I took control of waited for ages, acted once, at best, and got hit.
Explain to me how extacly more powerful is that spell than Summon Phoenix with 900 hitpoints and 300 dmg, or Implosion killing those 12 Devils right away, or Ressurection with which you can bring back as many Devils as you need.

Imo those are good changes, I really like this 1.3 patch, it surely balanced a lot of things.

You can't call a spell that works like blind useless

You remove whatever unit you choose from the battle and if it does get its turn then you get to attack with it... explain to me how that is useless

SO far..  I did find a couple honorable players that are able to play without all the dirty tricks......and found a decent map that is balanced to play.  Battle for Honor 2006

Lets just say, I am in trial mode still.  So not fully unretired yet.  Some of the maps ideas I have heard about on here have me concerned so kind all depends on the direction and quality of player made maps etc.

But thanks for keeping tabs on me.  Its nice to know you still care Valky.

there is no such thing as one final battle...

Ive been having lots of fun playing H5 so far...



My record sucks

I've been playing Betruger 11 games, and we have great games.

About this final battle thingy, there is no such thing. Expect to have many final battles. Betruger and I have had this amazing game on No Man's Land. We must have had 4 final battles. The final final battle he won with like 5 zombies left standing.

So about the War Machine skill, I think it's worth giving a chance. IT can really turn the tide in some close battles, especially those mid-games battle, where you can force your opponent to surrender.

There are no dirty tricks. Most tricks can be countered. And yes, there are some times where there is nothing to do, but that is part of the game

I agree that the game shouldnt need to come down to 1 final battle. I never said it did. There is a HUGE difference between having 6 final battles and being hit and run 6 times.

Let me draw a decription of the difference.



Multiple Final battles =

Meeting up with full army and fighting several rounds both sides taking casualties and one side realizing that after serious attempt to win the battle that you will fall short...so you surrender to fall back to town to grab re-enforcements...then you charge back to once again attack your opponent with intention of winning the battle. And again you fight for several turns, this time weakening him to the point he feels he can no longer win so he chooses to surrender to fall back and re-enforce himself and so on.


Hit & Run =

When battle is engaged one player uses the advantage of going first in battle to strike opponent with damage with from unit or spell then surrenders before opponent has equal oppurtunity to strike back.  i.e. To full armies engage.....Player A flys his 12 Emerald Dragons accross field and attacks Players B's stack of level 3's killing entire stack then clicks the surrender button and leaves. Player B now has lost his entire stack of Level 3's without having a turn to retaliate or ressurect his stack etc etc.  



So those are totally different situations.  I myself think it would be kewl to have 12 final battles back and forth on wearing my opponent down. That is honorable and hard fought game. But getting hit and run to death while someone exploits weakness in a game IMO is not honorable nor fun hard fought game.

yes, your description does make a lot of sense.


However, did you know that the battle order is somewhat random, so if you choose to hit and run, it may actually play against you as your hero is never guaranteed to go first.

ALso, if you do lose a few troops, and the hit and runner surrenders, you will get much gold to rebuild quickly.

It is very hard to mesure intentions of players. Intentions are very subjective and almost impossible to measure. Trying to define the intention of winning versus a hit and run is subject to much confusion and dispute.

Like i always said, why dont map makers simply put shackles near town for that purpose. Making the shackles availble to both players is an objective way of resolving the hit and run dispute.

Shackles is a horrible solution...because then it makes games ONLY 1 Final Battle.  And that is not a good solution.

Its funny that I was able to play dozens of players in heroes 3 that had absolutely no trouble with what Hit and run was and how not to use it. And have had couple games now with different veterans in H5 that also have no trouble not using that tactic.  

So it is only hard for a person to understand how not to use if they are desperately needing to use it

It the long run it doesnt matter much, to each there own. If certain players want to use such tactics then thats there option.  I myself wont use it and wont play with players that must use it. I will just find players and play players that have similar preferences as to game tactics and maps etc as I do.  To each there own.
