Weird bug - uncertain whether due to map or game
Just started the Hourglass map with Deleb. Day two, and the following happens:
I attack 41 Obs Gargs. Delebs army consists of
56 Familiars
17 Demons
8 Hell Hounds.
I pick out 3 eager Familiars and 1 Not-so-willing Demon to assist me in battle.
Job done, and I lost 2 familiars. Then i notice that what is left on Deleb is 8 Hell hounds, 1 Familiar and 1 Demon. (The 2 last ones from the battle plus the HHs).
Now what happened to my 16 demons and my 53 Familiars? Well, they deserted it seems, but that aint supposed to happen is it??
Is it something that I have completely missed or is this a (serious) bug?
¨
I can provide a save if anyone wanna check this out, but maybe someone has an explanation.

Same thing here.
1.3, Deleb, can't remember which map.
Left some creatures out of battle and entire stack of them simply vanished after battle. I reloaded and tried again, this time leaving my stack of demons out of fight. They vanished after the battle was over battle. Continued to play the map, now committing all the creatures in every single battle. Later in the game though, I didn't notice this bug anymore.
Edit: It was Subterranean Treasures map. Plain 1.3 HOMM5. No mods.

I heared about this bug already. They say it happens in 1.3 when you run the game with mods. If you run clean, no-mod game, then it should not occur (I for one thing never encountered it)

Well, you have to reconclude then I have never seen or touched a mod (What do they look like? are they hairy? Four legs? Can they eat you?). Only thing I have changed from the original is some of the speed settings in the user.cfg (or whatever) file.
Is this bug connected to Deleb?

My impression is that the bug is connected to splitting a creature stack during the tactics phase, and leaving one of the halfs outside of combat. The hero does not matter.
After combat the game checks for the number of survivors on the battlefield and assumes any missing numbers are due to losses and not due to the split...
(I haven't tried that myself, this is just a summary of what I gathered from various forums).

That very well may be so, but this bug was driving me crazy only in the early phase of the game. 2nd month or so, the things were back to normal.

I heard about that bug (may be it need to test)
If you split army and remain some parts in reserve they lose after end of combat.
When i use single units i usually take main troops by 2-ndary hero(not becouse theis bug but for extra plase) so not encount it

OK, seems like Ghasteater is right. Bug tested positive with Dungeon troops, so I'd say it's not map, faction or hero related.
If you split stack of some creatures, say you take 2 minotaurs in fight, and leave 98 in reserve, and if those 2 minotaurs get killed, you will also loose those 98 in reserve.

I think this makes sense as if you only take a few creatures to battle and would happen to lose, your hero dies as does the rest of your army. Not saying that its right but I think thats how the game is reading it sometimes.
