Alternative upgrades - the new feature

As you have probably seen the new H5 expansion Hammers of Fate intro, you have probably seen the new alternative upgrades to all Haven creatures. The main question of this thread is: Do you want to have alternative upgrades in every faction? Here you can suggest your ideas.

Beides, if you want to know what units are already made for Haven, here:

Peasant Conscript / Brute
Archer Marksman / Crossbowman
Footman Squire / Vindicator
Griffin Imperial griffin / Battle griffin
Priest Inquisitor / Zealot
Cavalry Paladin / Champion
Angel Archangel / Fallen angel

As you can see, the alternative upgrades are exact oposites to the actual upgrades (good / evil). Maybe a system like this should be used when creating alternative upgrades for other factions... Or there is another alternative: we can make more than two available upgrades for existing units (but this wont be so easy...). I think that the system solves some problems, like missed creatures (for example the Efreet can be now the upgrade for Djinns! see: good / evil).

So, feel free to list here your ideas!

I haven't seen the intro, but from what I heard these upgrades won't be available in town and will be a special campaign feature.
Anyway, even if you can choose what to upgrade to h5 will face the problem of h4, meaning some of the alternatives will be unbalanced and in the end everyone will choose more or less the same upgrades.
Another problem that will come back from h4 is capturing a town with different upgrades making this town pretty much useless (except the money income).

Well ... It's not an idea I'm very keen on, I think it's going to be more of a one-off event, but certainly some nice features could be developed from this. However, the idea of developing a Haven (good) unit into something Evil comes easier for me than developing an evil creature - like something from the Necropolis - into something good! And no matter how much I try, I simply can't see how you can reasonably upgrade a Minotaur into a Medusa or a Shadow Witch into a Manticore - so I don't see this as an better feature than the alternative creatures.

Hey,

- Well as I read the AOH-HoF information on these Renegades is as the following :
The Heroes V Expansion will be the first to feature 'Renegades'. These are seemingly rebellious units who have been ostracised from their community. The story goes that a band of Haven followers break away from the mainstream town and form their own crusade against the demon army. These renegades oppose their own faction (Haven) and wear the colour red. They cannot be purchased in-town - the only way to recruit them is from the adventure map.

Hence you can't upgrade them, only purchased from external dwellings.

- But I do like the idea of suddently have a change of hearts and possibly "go Renegade" on my opponant(s). Nothing wrong with that imho, and it would only contribute to the varaity as a whole.

I do like the alt's name, and the mental image of them.

Are they more there for visual difference, or actually have stats/ablity that is different?  But in any case, I think it is a easy/cheap way of making new units with out too much effort (if only in name/stats/ablity/color change)

I am thinking of a differnt upgrade system too... will try to write it up later this weekend...

You are too pessimisctic about this! The alt upgrades of undead dont have to be *good*, just renegades!

I have never mentioned anything about minotaurs upgrading to medusas or witches into manticores! I said just that it *can* perhaps be used to resurrect some missed creaures!

And I know that the renegades cant be bought in Haven or in exernal dwellings, but how about making it so? And the H4 problem can be solved like this: The upgraded evil creature can change for money to good or from good to evil! Or you choose at the beginning of the game either you want your castle to be good or evil! I really dont understand why you are having so much problems with alternatives!

EDIT: And one more note: I havent made this thred because I wanted to have such feature seriously, somebody asked me to. So, now I want you to have fun and dont wanna see arguing!

They are separate units - thus, the Fallen Angel has the Life Drain ability of the Vampires(!), and other new abilities like Cleave, Rapid Fire and Champion Charge will also be introduced.
