Why I chose air..

is because if you get DD or fly, air will win you the game, or at least help immensely. 4 DD´s will get you any town of your opponent, and unless he has it too, there´s nothing he can do. You can´t TP to a town you´ve lost.

And DD also helps incredibly much on th eadventure map. Sure, slow will help you take out stacks without losses, but DD will let you take out 5 times as many, at least of the ones you want.

Implo is good of course, but I would rather take chain, because it does *more* damage totally, and you cant res 5 stacks to counter it. And if you have the pendant, you just won the game.

And expert haste beats expert slow every time. If you cast exp slow on me, sure you might hit me a little before its my turn, esp with shooters (at 50%) but then I mass haste at my turn and eat your army with *all* my grunts at 100% damage.

Ress is the best advantage of earth magic, as no other magic except fire has something similar, so I prefer earth also, but not as much as air.

But DD is the most powerful spell, not TP. =P  And if you think otherwise lets play for TOH on any map, I get expert air and DD, you get expert earth and TP, we will see who wins

I'd go with earth, but usually I end up mastering Air first, I don't really have a favorite, but I think that in a perfect Utopia, Earth would be more useful.

Earth is best on most maps, air is best on randoms, but the most fun is fire, for berserk, frenzy, arma and sacrifice, all cool spells not often used

I prefer Earth,

->IMPOLOSION is perfect for attack
->i am not going to discuss further the
  advantages of TOWN PORTAL.
->SLOW & SHIELD are a good defensive tactic

->and did you forget about RESURECTION/ANIM DEATH?

Earth first yes what everyone said before
Then air- mass haste & chain lightning, esp combined with tactics
Then water- mass bless/prayer/cure

Fire last - does not pack the punch of the others

Usually I like the simple but reliable spells like
Haste
Slow
Bless
Lightning Bolt
For an ultimate spell I like Bezerk

Earth all the way.  Unless your Fortress than maybe Water with exp. teleport is nice. I think it mainly depends on map spells allowed and town.

Agreed with Rycheroller.
Earth is probably most useful but fire is definately my favorite one.Berserk,blind,sacrifice,...last one AI tend to use pretty often...

best = earth
good = air / water
least used, but my favorite to mess with = fire  

magic expertise is 90% only useful for mass spells, travelling spells, and resurrect / sacrifice.  Damage bonuses don't help much.

therefore, earth: has a TON of useful spells.  Slow is a must vs cpu.
air: limited level 1 spells, but haste is one of the best.  Counterstrike and air-shield are hard to get, same with DD and fly.
water: bless, clone, cure, and prayer.  Great, but that's about it.
fire: bloodlust, curse, blind, bezerk (my favorite), and sacrifice.

note: expert sacrifice is 3x more effective than basic.  ie: sacrifice 100 HP of a creature to resurrect 900 HP (@ expert) Remember to not mix up order and sacrifice wrong creature!  I've done that a few times
