Whats your opinion on WoG?

What is your opinion on WoG?

My opinion is this:

WoG is a nice add-on or MOD to Heroes of Might and Magic 3.

Adds new creatures, new campaigns and maps, new specialities (2 I think if I am not mistaken) and wayy more features.

But sometimes this could be considered giving yourself the upperhand or advantage.

Because since you can turn on/off anything in the game, well not anything but alot of things.

You can turn on/off the ability to have enhanced skills, gives more things or bonuses or whatever you may like to call them, thus making your hero stronger and ofcourse the enmies hero aswell but since you know exactly what you turned on/off you then know exactly what skills to get, and you can outwit your opponent quite easily.

The added creatures is a really nice touch.
The Level 8 creatures look nice but I heard they were only recoloured Level 7 units, if this is so then that isnt so good, but their stats are more than impressive.
For example: Lords of Thunder can strike twice, now that is an awesome added speciaility or whatever to that unit, makes it much much better, and im o one of the strongest creatures in the game mainly because of that one skill.

Level 8 units are not all that are there, old units such as Ghosts have made a return visit, making this once again more fun and interesting game to play, seeing as though Ghosts are extremely strong because they gain in stack numbers when they kill their enemies, making their stack size quite impressive and high, and their stats are pretty good also.

The enhanced graphics in my opinion are also a nice touch.
Moving trees, and all that give the game that extra feeling imo.

The new resource type Mithril is also pretty nice, and it has it's uses aswell, and they are quite good when used well

The campaigns with this are pretty good, unfortunately though I didn't play them to much, didn't have that much time, but I played alot of WoG sp games, not campaign, just versing the computer which is pretty fun aswell.

WoG is a pretty good add-on or MOD to this game, and adds alot of new things that make this game very good in my opinion.

So what is your opinion on Wake of Gods?

Never played WOG.. because

Never played WOG, because I think it introduces hacks unknown to the Computer AI.

Can the computer AI do the stuff the computer player can? I guess not.

so?

in the original h3, also ai couldnt use almost any spells, only the simplest (and often the most pointless) ones. ai stupidity is no excuse for not improving the game.

YEA IM BACK TO THE HC WOG FORUM FOR CHRISTMAS. just paying a visit. lately i have been hooked on Battle for Wesnoth and im half-way done making a faction there. its much easier in that game. 72*72 pixelart for a unit is a lot better to do than big pics, and it will look better too(in wog, most fan-made units dont stand anything like competition against the original h3 unit sprites, however in Battle-for-Wesnoth, you can actually make a new unit pixel-by-pixel totally yourself and it will look high-quality).

anyway, as i shall not read through hundreds of posts, anyone wanting to give update of if anything has been done in the while i was gone?

cmon you arent actually meaning wog hasnt advanced within a month??

I like WoG a lot! If I did'nt, I would'nt be on the team any more. What do I like about WoG? Choices. No, not the map, though it is one of the great maps. But the way I can make the game play for me. I like seeing all the new creatures and all the new artifacts. I like the way the game has become even more balanced than before. Any faction can beat any faction now.

And even though WoG has'nt progressed much as of late, it does'nt mean the project is dead. Slava has been busy with another "lucrative" project, but has promised to come back once he has completed it. So, for now, if you have'nt installed the updated scripts, please do so, enjoy what we have to offer and just be patient. The wait will be worth the effort, believe me, it'll be worth it.

Yes, the ability to choose anything you want can be really fun.

Being able to have balanced factions is also a plus, it would remove the conflux's overpowerness, which many people complain about, although I kinda like that town.

New resources such as Mithril can add a little more challenge to the game, and ofcourse the many new creatures that have come into the game.

Like Nightmare's, Dracolich's, Ghosts, Lava Sharpshooters and all that.

The new level 8 units are also a plus.
Many new things in this add-on include:

Monster Mutterings (enable/disable)
New Chest
New Artifact
New Adventure Map buildings such as:
School of Wizardry
Alms House
Battle Academy
Altar of Transformation
Palace of Dreams
Market of Time
Junk Merchant
Bank
Arcane Tower

And many many more.

There are new things aswell, like experience that monster's can earn, and new Commander's for your army, and they can learn skills and gain experience.

The new skills that certain monster's can get because of experience and being levelled up and all that is pretty cool.

You can also give specific things to creatures to hold and that will help them and make them become more powerful, but not every artifact will work with that though, only certain specific artifacts can work and be able to be held by a monster and it can give some bonus to it.

The new scripts in this game, like artifact bossts, secondary skills boost and much more.

Here is an example of the artifact boost script taken from the wake of gods website:

Make formerly weak artifacts do something special, usually once/week.
Bird Of Perception gives 6 Royal Griffins
Pendant Of Life gives 24 Sprites
Pendant Of Death gives 12 Zombies
Targ Of The Rampaging Ogre provokes a fight with 30 Ogres
Dead Man's Boots gives Dead Man's Boots
Pendant Of Total Recall gives 1000 experience
Emblem Of Cognizance gives 15 gold per troop
Stoic Watchman reveals a large map area
Pendant Of Second Sight upgrades lowly shooters
Pendant Of Holiness gives a random holy spell
Boots Of Polarity may be traded for a one-time movement bonus
Garniture Of Interference may be traded for a magic skill
Pendant Of Dispassion gives +1 knowledge
Pendant Of Free will upgrades golems and peasants

Version 1.3:
Diplomat's Ring may be traded to double number of first level troops hero has

Surcoat Of Counterpoise doubles the effects of these artifacts, where applicable

Orb Of Vulnerability gives 1 Archmage plus another per level of Wisdom

Sphere Of Permanence gives 1 Mighty Gorgon plus another per 10 Defense

Statesman's Medal may be traded at a town for up to three buildings

Orb Of Inhibition may be traded to modify a creature's abilities

All artifacts function for the AI (if worn) but AI won't agree to trades.

That can be really cool, and that option can be turned either on/off.

You can have another script which is map rules:

Adds rules to a map on day one. You can choose what rules you want to use.
Rules:
   1. Fliers can't fly but instead aren't retaliated against.
   2. Monster speed is inverted.
   3. Monsters are half price on 7th day of week.
   4. Heroes create magic plains each day.
   5. All monsters attack twice.
   6. Monster stacks in hero armies grow by 4% each day, to 10000 max.
   7. Most dwellings also have boars.
   8. Heroes start at 5th level (+5000 experience).
   9. Heroes pick up double artifacts.
  10. Perpetual darkness.
  11. Heroes have double movement.
  12. Mines change resources once/week.
  13. +1 places can be revisited each month.
  14. Heroes get 9th-10th skills.
  15. A hero's upgraded 7th level monsters automatically become 8th level.
  16. Heroes gain an artifact each level.
  17. Rogues attack heroes at random.
  18. All creatures have a breath weapon.
  19. Shooters can't shoot but instead have +50% hit points.
  20. All towns have a grail (only used if no confluxes on map)

You can have Secondary Skills boost:

Improves weak secondary skills.
Eagle Eye - gain a choice of spell when going up a level (1-2, 2-3, 3-4)
   Scouting - gain rogues every day (1, 3, 5)
Resistance - lowers 1-3 defending enemy creature stacks to unupgraded form
Learning - chance of extra primary skill point each level - 20%/35%/50%
Artillery - does damage to a defending enemy stack prior to combat (50, 100, 200)
First Aid - resurrect a few creatures after combat, if attacking and victorious (50, 100, 200 hit points worth)
Eagle Eye offers lower level spells instead of higher ones if you don't have enough wisdom
Eagle Eye has less chance of offering town portal than other 4th level spells
Scouting does nothing if you have no free slot; it gives no message either way
the Speculum and Spyglass increase the number of rogues gained with scouting
Resistance's effect wears off if defenders aren't beaten
Artillery works without a Ballista; it gives no experience
First Aid works without a First Aid tent; it won't raise a completely dead stack

Here is a commander type that you can have:

http://wakeofthegods.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/images/barbar.gif

In my opinion all of these things can really make this Heroes of Might and Magic 3 game much more enjoyable, especially with new things to do, new creatures to fight with, new artifacts, new campaigns, new graphics, features, the ability to turn basically anything on/off, it is really cool.

I will add some more information later

Nice representation of WoG stuff william. I like all that too.

It was asked here,if it makes the AI weak or if the AI uses or not uses any of this stuff. Yes, the AI does use all this stuff just as the human player does. In fact, it uses the stuff crazily! In fact you can advance the AI even more than just Easy to Impossible by adjusting the Stack Experience ability. Just total insanity IMO! Even the best WoG players have problems with the S.E. set to the max for the AI. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself.

I played SOD for about 3 years, before realising there was an expansion pack of sorts. I was sceptical, but would have regretted not upgrading, the add-ons are amazing! The sheer effort put into WOG is evident, I usually play it under normal rules, but it's  nice to have the ERM scripting, and I am fond of the "Conflux/neutral" castle with it's halflings, werewolves and gorynyches.

I would rate it 4/5 because of some of the graphics are not what they could be.

To me, the best feature of wog is the stack experience, what make any army very powerfull.
For example: In SOD a castle troop can win any troop in equal numbers (excluiding hero's skills and spells). But with stack experience every battle become a surprise, because a gnoll marauder in the ace level can win a basic royal griffin, for example.
Because this and other things HOMM3 WOG became the best expansion in this game.

If you were around during the early creations of WoG, you would see the great improvements made over the years. This from great graphics artists joining the team and listening to what fans wanted. At the time, we didnt even know if we could add totally new creatures to WoG, but through time, we realized we could. Adding new towns was just conception at the time. So, watching WoG evolve to what it is now, and what it will be for 3.59, is quite simply amazing.

I like WoG, 'cause I can choose amongst a lot of options, and write nearly anything that is missing for me..
I didn't play over WoG campaignes, they are really boring.
That puzzle, for exemple.
I would prefer to play chess, or Tic-Tac-Toe.

WoG should be just an addon to a strategic fanatasy game, and not a Stephen King story.

So I really like WoG, without the Campaignes and the Intro movie.

WoG IS just an addon.

And yes I kinda agree, I did not really like the campaigns either, I much preffered just playing for fun against the computer, ofcourse with all the WoG features and all that, I really do think that this is an amazing add on, to one of the best games ever.

Although, to tell you  the truth, I am more of a HOMM2 fan

Heh, I reckon that ERM used in WOG is very powerful and exciting. I made a castle the other day with all my favorite monsters recruitable there. WOG with just ERM is good enough for any player! The castle I made used ERM scripting and I thank everyone who helped out with it.

Rogue > Swordsman

Master Gremlin > Santa Gremlin

Iron Golem > Gold Golem

Beholder > Evil Eye

Zealot > War Zealot

Wyvern > Wyvern Monarch

Cyclops > Cyclops King

Seems underpowered, but, once again, I used ERM to change their stats! Incredible power is what you get from using ERM and I reccomend learning it, try little things and use monster stat editor (Comes with ERM tools) to change things around a bit. You can have a lot of fun and the results are rewarding and exciting.
