My favorite thing is the look on my kids' faces when they're opening presents - it starts with the anxious and near crazed look while they're tearing off the wrapping - and then (hopefully) its the look of utter delight as they see their gift.
Of course, its also good when the look goes from anxious and near crazed - to disinterested and bored as they toss the 'not so exciting' pair or socks over their shoulder into the "meh" pile

I've got lots of favorites. Here are a few of them:
* What Pan said, x2!
* Family time.
* Giving Trees.
Economically, my family was something like 5 or 6 steps below 'dirt poor' when I was growing up. Santa came in 2 forms: My Grandma and gifts we got from charity.
I'll never be able to adequately express the joy I felt when I ripped open a package and laid my hands on a cool brand new toy (prolly one of the only ones I'd get all year long that wasn't a hand-me-down from one of my cousins). The kindness of total strangers was often the highlight of Christmas for me because what little money my mom had to spend on us kids went toward necessities like boots, coats, etc.....(although at the time we were unaware of this).
It took me years and years--until I was an adult and had children of my own--to fully understand and appreciate the value of the kindness of a complete stranger.
Each year, when the holidays roll around, the company I work for puts a Christmas tree up in the main lobby. In place of the usual ornaments hang plain white envelopes. Each one contains an index card listing an anonymous child's age, sex, and 'wish list'.
I always take one and do my best to go way above and beyond whatever the child is asking for. It's my way of repaying the kindness I was fortunate enough to receive when I was a kid. It's also kinda selfish of me, too, because I love kids and it makes me feel GREAT to think that somewhere a child will be happy because of something I've done (doesn't matter to me that they don't know who it came from--actually, I'd rather see "Mom&Dad" written on the "From:" part of the tag).
Christmas is tailor made for kids and kids, more than anything else, are my favorite part of the holiday.
