RedSoxFan's House of Music

http://www.zshare.net/audio/practice-song-5-mp3.html

Alright this first link is me playing the guitar and singing. It's by one of the local indy rock bands in my area.

I want to get singing lessons. But I'd really like to know what you think of my voice. (Suspicions are my voice isn't that great ) And please be brutally honest. If my voice sucks tell me. I need to know how much I have to work on it.

Hangover Rock...interesting genre.
Kinda like a mixture of Bob Dylan and Kurt Cobain at Yodelpalooza.

In all honesty, though, I think you can improve on it. You guys know from my home recordings that I am a sub-par singer. That's how you start out. Go for vocal lessons if you can, but whatever you do, don't ask Simon Cowell for his personal opinion.

Yeah it's pretty hilarious listening to myself try to sing. Oh and that was rhythm guitar, not bass.

If you wanna good laugh, I've got a live recording of me singing "Crush With Eyeliner" last Halloween. I call it the Faux-Drunkeness Remix.

Then again, I'm waaaay too embarrassed to post it.

That's... Nice!

Tips: Keep the microphone closer to your mouth while singing.
Use better quality. I'm sure that this one changes your original voice.

I've heard most people who give singing lessons, also do piano, so maybe I can kill two birds with one stone.

What do you mean by hangover rock? What exactly is hangover rock? Does that just mean stuff like the more laid back grunge kind of music?

Oh, I made it up. You just have one of those vocal textures that evokes a guy singing away on a lazy afternoon in the country. Not necessarily Dylan-ish folk, country, or grunge, but it just has that feel to it. I just checked Google out of curiosity; did you know that there's a band called "Hangover Rock Explosion"??? I was totally unaware of that. So I guess I didn't coin the phrase.

So, got any more songs for us to hear?

Here's one of my own creations. This one is from last fall. It needs some more work. In fact I completely forgot about this little riff. I'm home for spring break, so I don't have access to the rest of my stuff just the stuff that's managed to find its way onto my parents computer. This is something I came up with probably on a random weekend that I went home for a visit.

Wow, it's like a combo of "Man On The Moon", "Losing My Religion", and "The Great Beyond".

Perhaps you should have asked people to judge this when they're drunk... I'm sure drunk people would have thought it was great. But in reality, it does suck pretty bad. No offense. I won't be docked qp for dissing you now will I?

RSF, your first song reminded me of "The Days of Wine and Booze" by The Minus 5. Your voice is somewhat similar to Scott McCaughey's.
