| Can I buy some space at HC?
 Hi Val,
I searched through FAQ and with the Search function but I did not find an answer to the following question:

Quote:Can I buy some space at HC?

I realize that most likely the answer is no, since most of the people want to upload photos, and photobucket is an excellent way of handling those situations - not to mention that HC servers don't have to handle this sort of traffic. However, there are times that someone wants to upload a document, a map, a song ? - I don't know - anyway, something else, but the question doesn't change.

I am asking this, because most of the documents and/or photos I have uploaded in the past, have been uploaded through an old account of mine, which will soon (most likely by autumn) be deleted.

Finally, if I can indeed buy some space at HC, what will be the cost and policy? I mean, would you charge on a per MB basis with a minimum of 10MBs initial purchase let's say?

 Best Regards,

| You could use HC's Upload Center too. Check your HCM inbox for the username and password. ____________

| Hi Dimis,
I was actually thinking of making free moderator-managed space for RL member photos, official contest material, etc. That should be coming soon.

How many megabytes would you be needing for your own personal space? I'll think about whether that would be possible too.

Edit: heh, I missed the 10MB bit

Before we go further, let's discuss if there are any free AND reliable hosts out there which can keep files for several years, with ability to hotlink images from HC. Does the one you named Vlaad meet this criteria?

| I'd suggest trying your local free webhosting services. Dunno about your piece of the world, but round here all the major portals offer free space for your websites. I've been stashing my graphics at republika.pl for quite a while now, even though there isn't a single htm file there. ____________

It's great but one cannot upload zip files or Heroes maps there.

| First of all, I am glad that this idea is coming, or is at least somewhere in the back of your head (I hope this expression holds internationally)!
Now, as for the 10MB I named earlier it was just an example, since most large multi-personal computing environments provide at least that minimum space (quota).

As for my actual needs, I really don't know, but the last 2 years I 've been a member I have used about 7.5 MB of my quota in my university account.

Moreover, regarding what Lord_Woock suggests, this ain't an option for many reasons. First of all, I am moving to US in August, so I 'll have to change my provider soon. Secondly, I tend to change provider once about every year or two so that I can contribute (
) to free-market principles. At least this behaviour (assuming that others will behave similarly ...) helps on decreasing the prices. But nevertheless, I think the default space that various providers offer for free on your account is limited to 10MB quota, which can turn out problematic over the years.
More soon, because I returned from a mini vacation today and many things have popped out and should have been ready ... yesterday!

| It looks like there will be another server move in about a month to month and a half. As the new server will feature slightly different set up, I'll have to leave the diskspace question until then to save having to re-do everything. ____________
