To remove all evidence of his existence in the history of HC.

Your mentioning him is a crime punishable by ban, followed by the deletion of this thread, and all your posts.

Well, obviously not his threads... I was asking about those three threads about the ban - "Sir_Stiven", "Are you fekkers really begging for it?" and "Would you want Sir_Stiven back...?"

I used to reread those now and then.

Eh ....

If it wasn't Valeriy then the only other mod that I know for a fact deletes things for his own reasons in liue of what HE thinks is best for the community is Lich_King. I wouldn't be surprised if he expected Valeriy to one day hand over the Heroes Community website to him out of some misguided sense of due seniority. Of course if that were to happen, I might be in the top 10 to be immediately and inconspicuously removed. *shudders* ....what a dreadful thought.

The reason I have removed the threads from our database was simple. After doing Tribunal (especially closed) thread lookup on "what to leave" and "what to remove", I came across these several threads. I know what kind of discussion and what kind of resonance they give to community, gave and will be giving, I overthought and over-read all the replies there.

Even though there were positive and contructive replies in those threads, the overall atmosphere was really negative and "bashfull", it mostly lacked so I've decided that it's enough having such contraversal threads kept here, as they always will rise "Why was Stiven banned" and "I want him back" and simmilar questions or demands. Especially they are not positive looking to new members who has no slightest idea, who and what Sir_Stiven had done. To add there were lots of other threads I removed, that concerned soccerfeva, William or Knight Dougal, which were in same manner bashfull and negative.

As from persons view, perhaps it wasn't the smartest move, I hoped that Stiven's case is given rest now, appearently I was mistaken. I apologise to those it might concern.

And yet this calls for discussion, do we need to keep negative history to further impact our community ? How many times certain members came back only to start a conflict on (well let's take Stiven's) ban ? Do we need to dwell on past or better clean ourselves of it ?

There was this little town once.  Home of a great cartoonist.  He liked to make pictures that made fun of people.  Many citizens liked his cartoons, but quite a few took offense too.

As the cartoonist gained more fans, he grew increasingly bold, and started making funny pictures of the authorities and their friends.  Things got out of hand, and in the end the cartoonist was expelled from the town.  There was a lot of protest among the fans, and some of them left the town as well.

Years later, a bunch of cartoons were discovered that reminded of this sorry period.  They were burned.  The newer citizens didn't understand what happened, and a few of the elders told their tale.  There was a bit of confusion among the new citizens, and even some misthrust towards the authorities.

After a while the incident was forgotten, and the authorities knew that should they find other provocative cartoons, they were probably better left alone.  They realized that to new citizens who might come accross them, the cartoons would just be a meaningless part of a story in the past.  To the elders they would remain nothing but a memory.

I will venture to add a few words here. I'm a fairly recent member of the community. I don't know Sir Steven, I don't know why he was banned, and neither do I care much, to be honest. But that's just my point of view.

However, I do feel that sometimes, there is a tendency for some forumers to take these matters very much to their hearts, perhaps also more than they merit. I understand that a lot of the regulars here enjoy coming here for talking to fellow forumers [that includes myself], and of course every time someone steps out of line and gets banned, it will cause a commotion, because someone will feel mistreated.

But also, we should remember that this is just an online community, that takes its roots in a computer game. A lot of the forumers have grown completely disconnected to the game - and that's ok - but this is not real world. People will move on, their lives change, they get new interests, etc. I think it's important to use this place as a place of the present, not to dwell in the past history, because that's not really that important - this is only cyberspace. Real world is on the convex side of the screen.

For me, therefore, old threads that will cause a bad atmosphere, are irrelevant, or concern people no longer around, can be deleted if they no longer have any benefit for the present. I know this sounds radical, and certainly sometimes old threads can have value for newcomers, but in this specific case, where they concern incidents and people long gone, I don't see that as the case.

I too used to re-read such threads when i had nothing better to do. Its a part of HC history, bad or not it shouldn't be deleted.

Should we burn all books and evidence on wars and killings just because they are bad? No, its a part of history so we keep it.

However im not really fussed. Just making a point. Lich has made his decision and thats that.

A Question Of Book Burning?

I respectfully disagree. One of my favorite things about Heroes Community over all the other places to visit on the internet is going back and reading "Glory Days-Threads & Arguments" threads. I have my very favorite kept posted on my Heroes Community personal page. It's Xarfax's old story of cracking open a cold brew after being taunted for his fotress troops and gorgons by some arrogant player who flew threw the map on Black Dragons and Chain Lightning! What a story! I love that story! It's my favorite, and I don't stop reading the old threads either. I often look up many old ToH moments and complaints that originally began in the Tavern but then moved. I look back and read how everyone hated KittenAngel or those frighteningly morose surface thoughts of Wesley. Reading that guy's posts was like watching a horror show. I would ask myself, "Is this guy for real? Does he really think like this?" Sometimes I even go back to read his threads during Halloween as part of my mood for the day. In the fall I often find myself looking up threads by Romana. She loves faeries, and autumn gold leaves, and magical sprites, and children's laughter, and quirky smiling pixies. I love that stuff during the fall. Heroes Community's history is unique to me. I love it. I have only just begun to look back and read things that spark the fire of imagination. Heroes Community has so much to offer.

I recall bort, Oldtimer, The_Gootch, and many others had much to say in those threads that have now been deleted. I wonder if deleting the thread hasn't made a martyr of an otherwise unremarkable character. Perhaps it has more to do with how so many people felt about it all. Whatever it was, it is now no longer. Now it looks as if a dead non-issue is about to become one Heroes Community's most historical moments.

As I recall,

Valeriy was the one who wrote the most in that thread. I wonder if the moderator who deleted it, asked him if it was ok to delete it? I recall Valeriy gave a long and detailed explanation of the matter. I recall that Valeriy invested quite a bit of carefully weighing the circumstances being involved. I think he put a lot of thought and consideration into his decision and even more so by putting them in to words so that everyone else could read it and understand his decision. I wonder how Valeriy feels about someone deleting his carefully constructed thoughts, opinions, and ultimately the best explanation for why the actions he took were justified.
