Yes they should only be constraints like it being written in iambic pantameter and there should be at least 13 pictures of bannanas.
Also extra points should be given for creating an animation of politician having his head set on fire, Or for using a idea directly and explicitly plagarised from douglas adams.
Also all the text should be alternating between red yellow and blue

yeah they shouldnt be too tight. We want people to be creative i think.

You mean that one round you have to make a FPS kind of game?
And then another you have to make an Adventure type of game?
That is a good idea, and would certainly add a bit more challenge to the whole thing

the reason why i said this was because i felt that the judges were given a far too difficult task, as the games were so varied and different. looking at them, the contest included my action adventure, daystar's MMO, and others. this would make it much easier to judge.
of course, you can have games that include parts that also come from other game genres, like a FPS with elements of turn based strategy, or a platformer with bits and peices from puzzle games.
