Adding Arantir to an MP map.
I can't find Arantir. When I open the map editor for say Warlords, I can't get Arantir to show up in the game even though I check him off as an available hero.
Neither could I put him in a prison. Help!

Pretty simple, if you check the objects you'll see Heroes Generic and Heroes Scenario, Arantir is at the Scenario tab

Yep, I got it about 5 seconds after I posted. Sigh.
Still, what if I did want to put him in a prison.

You'd have to make him a non-scenario hero. To do this, click him in the editor, click 'Shared' in the map properties tree (should be on the left) and click the button marked "..." right of it (you may have to adjust your screen resolution to see it).
A big properties screen should open, with Arantir selected. Highlight "ScenarioHero" near the bottom of the list and change the value from "true" to "false". Now click OK and you should be able to see him in the hero lists for prisons.
This may have an effect on the main game (i.e. you may now be able to recruit Arantir in all maps). That's the risk, but don't worry, it's nothing serious at all. Just retrace your steps and change the "true" value back to "false" if it starts acting up on you.

As far as I know, the "shared" part is only contained within the map you're editing. Perhaps it also influences maps that are bound together as a campaign, I don't know - but it won't influence your main game. It doesn't for other objects, so I fail to see why it would do so for Heroes .

It once chanced that I edited all of the Inferno heroes, giving them different names, bios and switching their portraits. Then due to some reason I can't understand, the changes I made were present in the main game. It may be different for TotE but tread carefully all the same.

To place any hero in the prison, there's no use to make him standard (which as Cepheus says can impact other maps). The dialog box only suggests standard heroes in the dropdown list, but you can choose another one "manually":
- In the Prison property tree, select the PrisonedHero value and click on the "..." button
- a new dialog tree opens (the AdvMapHero object). On the right panel, select the Shared property, and click "..." again
- another dialog tree opens (the AdvMapHeroShared object): in the tree on the left, select Necropolis/A2_Arantir.(AdvMapHeroShared) (or any other hero you want)
Here you go. Arantir is in the prison without editing the hero.

@ LordArantir
1. Place a "Generic Necro-Hero" at the town.
2. Under 'View' open the "Map Properties" and make sure the window spreads to the right...near half-way...to see.
3. Click on the "generic hero you placed" and the list shortens.
4. Go to the SHARED line and Click on the little box to the "left" of "New" and you will see the file structure pop-up. Aratir is the 1st hero listed under Necro... as "A2Arantir"
Edit= Added "SHARED line" and "left" in line 4.
