Christmas approaching

It's 8 December today... Everyone is preparing for Christmas with gifts, house decorations and trees. How about you? Have you already started planning? What will you give/recieve as a gift? How do you prepare? Is there anything you'd like to do in an other way than last year? If so, let us see it!

Merry X-mas in advance!

Christmas (or x-mas) does not have to be about celebrating Jesus.  It is meant to be a time to bring families together, though it has become a big commercial.  Charish your loved ones, hold them close, you never know when you might loose one...

I thought Christmas in America was about Santa Claus and presents, not about Jesus and love and all that?

We celebrate it here, but what I mostly look forward to is the food xD

Well, My family celebrates the Solstice.

We do christmas for the presents.  Mom and I have this thing going where if anyone wishes us a merry christmas we say, "I'm a Zoastrian" or "I'm a Wiccan" or "I'm a practicing Shinto" or something, just to shake things up.  It's fun!

It's a perfect time for all friends & families to get together if you want it.
Just like Thanksgiving.
Christmas is better because after you spend Christmas with the family, then you can spend New Yrs a few days later with your buds!

Christmas is not going to be very merry around here.  Though, at least it will be bringing all the family together.  Just wish it was not for the reason it is going to be about.   Everybody have happy holidays, whatever you celebrate...

Who cares though.
I mean for reals, it brings famalies together right?
Alot of people dont even see alot of thier families except for holidays.
It may be boring sometimes or it may be fun but as long as you got family.
Some people spend holidays alone or without families.

*nods* I agree.  It is all about family.  Especially this year.  I know, some people have it worse.  I am thankful and feel blessed that I live as good as life as I do.

Yea it's tough I know it.

It's the perfect time to be closer without any regrets about never being that close before.
Just be close now.
Sometimes environment seperates family somehow.
Sometimes you stay close.

Like with me I am closer to one side of my family but not with my other side.

It's just the way it is.
The point is never blame yourself for not being there for someone or spending more time with them for any reason.
Just do it now & dont be down on yourself.

Go out with your brother on new yrs & do something fun.

I'm really looking forward to it. Looking forward to call off the year and start a new one with new spirit. It's been such a hectic year. X-mas and the holiday year end is normally such a great period to "recharge" ourself. More time with families, lots of fun, lots of presents... hmm, really can't wait...

Bah eggnog > food.  Thanksgiving, now that is about the food.  Mmmm thanksgiving..... anyhow..  Christmas is also about good cheer (or at least at one time it was).  In a way I wish the non-commercial aspects of Christmas could last all year.  People seem to be nicer to one another.  Help each other more, give more.  It would be nice if that could last all year.

Well, here we celebrate Christmas by the old Julian calendar, and that's the 7th of January. We also celebrate New Year (that's where we have the tree and the presents and Santa and commercial stuff) and Serbian New Year (New Year by the old calendar, mostly for spending another night out with friends and more often than not getting drunk as horse butts )

Now, Christmas is pretty much different here than in the west. Since we hand out the presents and do the commercial stuff during the New Year's eve, Christmas by itself is rather traditional. There's a set of ancient, symbolic and fun customs which are left over from times when we were pagan and mixed with Christianity. There's really a whole lot of them... They're pretty much well described here].
Like I said, it's kinda weird, but fun. I like customs.

I don't understand why parents pay to have their kids pictures taken with Santa.  It's got to be one of the most impersonal times to have a photo taken.(who's this guy?)  The kids are too young to remember it anyway. Not to mention it's a rip-off.

When I was shopping today I saw Xmas decorations - round baubles- that had an opening to slide in a family pic...

I can see alot of people running to hang their gift on the tree when the doorbell sounds ;P
