most level 7 actually, because they act very early and can reach you on the 1st turn (except behemoths and hydras)
in Wog, ghost behemoths are totally dreadful, they fly and ignore ALL the defense. they'll just crush anything, even azure dragon
and have you seen the nightmare? 2 hex deathstare WOW
dragonflies are a true pain in the butt too with their high speed, dispel and weakening abilities. there's just no way to buff your army while they are alive...

When I play against random monsters, I most of all use my "main type" which is a class that uses Earth, Wind and Water magic for fast transport and easy battle wins.
By combining speed from haste, anti-magic against fearie dragons, force field and forgetfullness these guys who is most often a intelligence specialist focusing on power, can take out pretty much any wild creature in the game without losses (also using ress), especially if he gets the black orb.
Against troops faster than an archdevil, he'll be using 1 phoenix as no 1-hexed creature is faster than an AD, so force field will do what it must here.
And against everything else, he'll be using 1 AD.
Or of course, most likely several, and combine it with implosion, meteor shower and chain lightning.
The main problem though for this guy is the lich/power lich type, because these are immune to forgetfullness, whereby forcefield looses its power, if there's enough of these (cloak of undead king will really ruin it) then this guy can't do much.
So for me the most irritating monsters are liches.
Though I could also use armageddon scouts against these, unless the opponent have shackles which means big trouble.
Finally against other players I use a completely different char, tries to get the Red Orb in Topias, etc., together with shackle and some combination artifacts, focusing on attack and defense, I'll usually have a char (Tazar, Crack Hack, etc.) that's able to do well, simply retreating and rehiring this guy, give him an army through town portal and let him by himself use dimension door over to his opponents.
Though I guess this really illustrates I'm used to play big maps with no rush.

I used to play a lot against the computer, don't know the percentage, it was the one where it said "you've same ressources as computer and computer does the best it can" I think it was called hard and was in the middle.
But I later changed philosophy and now only plays heroes with friends in a small closed inner circle, we're all n00bs, but it's very fun doing it once in a while
Oh and I also write off topic stuff on internet forums, if you like to know

Vampire Lords can be really annoying with thats can resurrect themselves.
Wraiths ---> mana drain, however it isn't a big problem, if we have got much spell points.
But the most annoying creatures are trolls, they're very hard-bitten.

A troll is a neutral creature in Heroes III, you can find them under their bridge (dwelling) in some maps, or get them via diplomacy on the adventure map, a good idea is to use vision before engaging so you know if they'll join you or not.

I enjoy using Inferno alot, especially since I most of the time get Berserk+Expert fire magic ... and with Arch Devil that is a wonderful combination (along with Magogs fireball to attack the selfdestructive creatures already attacking each other). So I hate mainly dragons because of their magic resistance, and Phoenix because they are so darn fast! It's some months since last time I played, but I don't remember too many other creatures pissing me off.
I don't even count Azure Dragons, since they're straight out overpower.

Talking about creature strength, it's very important to notice the map as well.
First of all, the less hit points you use pr. round in average the better for secure wins anyway, this most often means that for secure wins, it's better to invest in the higher level creatures.
Also for rich maps, the higher level creatures get more power pr. week than the lower level creatures, e.g. nothing beats 1 azure dragon pr. week in power on the basic weakly growth (well maybe 6 Mighty Gorgons can beat it, I don't know, but that's a matter of statistic if anything).
However for poor map, it's my experience, that it's in general a bad choice to go for the high level creature, because their power/cost is not as good as for low level creatures.
That only goes for those "close/tight" combats though, where you're going to loose units no matter what, and it's not about reducing your losses anymore, but about winning the fight in the first place.

Yes, the SS sure are annoying if you can't nullify their über damage with tactics, a fast unit and, if needed, a mass haste.
