How to stitch up the hole in its mouth - make the textures double-sided!
Go into the material properties for the third material and change Is2Sided to true. Ought to work. Managed to remove the shadows? I've never touched the ReceiveShadow property btw.

Oh, those holes are deliberate - I didn't like the metal bar in his mouth.  Might try to fix it up later though.  I'm working on the shadow problem now

No you were right to remove it, I know it was deliberate, but you can still stitch it up with blue skin, it does look okay!

I realise that, but 2ndHero made the Salamander textures so I'd need his permission before I modify them in any way.  And the jaw problem is in the Basilisks too, it's necessary.

You can edit them. I didn't notice the hole in the jaw because I tested it with Necro terrain which is much darker than snow terrain.

imo the basilisk is better than its upgrades in terms of abilities...

But then again, I don't actually understand the concept of upgrading a neutral creature. Picture an external creature dwelling for example: how would you upgrade it? And if the original creature and its upgrades were all available, why would you ever recruit the non-upgraded version.

Okay, I've clearly made a few stupid mistakes so far.

Give me a day or two and I'll do my best to fix everything, right now I'm pretty busy.

@Okrane:  Two words.  Hill Fort.  And if you don't like my balancing, please, by all means post your own ideal stats.

So far, there's no dwellings, I'm currently working on the NCF-mod dwellings and I'm still hesitating about making the upgrades available. So basically you'd be forced to recruit only the basic neutrals and hope to find a hill fort.

Another interesting point about the upgrades is that if you fight a stack of neutral, there can be one or 2 stacks of upgraded ones too

hey, nice work! I had the same kind of idea.
could you make the cavern lizard?

I think it would basically be a dark raider without the rider.

neutral unit of level 4, linked to the dungeon.
you can upgrade it to dark raider.

its abilities are the "lizard bite" and the wolf bite ("pack hunter"?)

I can post its stats tomorrow.

Point taken.

Still, my remark to the mod maker would be: why make the upgrades weaker in terms of abilities?

Basilisk: Death Stare, No Enemy Retaliation, Agility

Greater Basilisk (I don't like the model - too many different colors/textures): Death Stare, Armoured, Lizard Bite.

Salamander: No Enemy Retaliation, Agility, Immune to Fire, Enraged.

The greater one loses no retaliation and Agility to gain Lizard Bite and Armored.
First of all, Armored is pretty worthless, situational at most whereas agility is just plain imba.
Lizard Bite is good but No retaliation is also good.
Salamander would be good with fire breath or something. Or another idea: You could give them the torpor ability vampires have, as a substitute from the petrify they had in heroes 3

Suggestion:
Basilisk: Death Stare, Lizard Bite, Armored
Greater Basilisk: Death Stare, Lizard Bite, Torpor, Agility
Salamander: Death Stare, Agility, Fire Breath, No retal

There are some things that should stay purely because they fit the creature - immunity to fire, for example. In fact, all the abilities fit perfectly. I'm not entirely sure there needs to be abilities which obviously get better.

an upgrade means it gets better. Now if you wanna keep some specificity about it that's a whole other problem...

A matter of opinion.  I like them personally... but then I made them so I'm biased.

Anyway I've almost got everything ready, but the one thing that's causing me trouble is the shadows.  I'll figure out the problem soon

It took little time for me to sort out the shadows. You just need to set the cast shadow property to false, false, true for the three materials respectively. But I neglected to mention last time, that you must save and reload the map once you have made the change, for the shadows to update!

Well, I wasn't flaming or anything... just gave a sugestion how to make it better. Simply put, you could just swap the abilities of the basilisk with the greater basilisk and it's great.

Don't forget about Torpor: it might save their reputation as petrifying creatures.

About the model: well, I love the basilisk and salamander as they look wild. The greater one seems like having clothes on.

Hey, no problem, I welcome criticism, it's just that I would like a few more opinions on the matter before I change anything.

I would have done something about that but it's not really possible due to the shape of the model (which we can't edit), so I just explained it away in the creature description.

Anyway, another version has been uploaded here and on the first post, with all bugs fixed.  The jaw-holes have been plugged up nicely, shadows have been tweaked properly and my idiotic file structure mistake is amended.  I would have added some appropriate death sound, but I couldn't manage to program it.

http://www.speedyshare.com/344390727.html (Obsolete due to new, better version)

Thanks a lot for your advice on shadows Gnoll Mage (the problem was yet another stupid mistake from me), your name has been added to the credits.

Greater Basilisk could fit very well with torpor and lizard bite. And maybe + immune to blind

Salamander with No enemy retaliation, immune to fire and agility + fire breath

Just my suggestions.

Can I ask - why is there a loose icon file in the rar, just so people can see what's in the pak?
