I don't think that "being treated like a person" gave anyone enough money to treat their sick kids, or filled their stomachs. "Being treated like a person" will not shield you from the rain, nor remove the rat infestation from your basement. "Being treated like a person" is nice, but if you want to be treated like a person, join some club. Jobs are for money.

The sheer fact you are rather treated as a number for more money instead of treated as a human which (according to you) leads to lower paychecks, is clear evidence of my statement that Western, materialistic Societies create disgusting mentalities.

Uh, because you have no respect for your employees? Because you treat them like numbers? Because you have no dignity or honor, just material goals?

No, I mean if you're an employee.

And why is it that when workers strike for better wages they're considered to be right, but when CEOs raise their wages they're considered scum?

edit: "considered to be right", not "considered"

The disgusting thing is that you seem to think more money / matter = better life. It's not a matter of opinion here, it's a BAD outlook on life, fact.

There is more to life than just materialism. You seem to think a materialistic outlook on life is all that makes humans so great and wonderous and amazing.... It's disgusting and arrogant.

Maybe because it's true? Just look at America, and compare it to Sub-Saharan Africa. Don't tell me they live better!

Of course, I'm not saying that money is the only thing that matters, but it's far from being unimportant.

I'd dare say many tribes in Africa live better when I compare their MENTALITY to retarded emo-geeks and spoiled brats that are the products of a western society like America. You don't see Anorexic teens or people like Paris Hilton there.

What do emos and anorexics have to do with Western culture? I mean, unfortunately they exist, but I am a proponent of Western culture, but I am neither an emo nor an anorexic. Although I suppose that the perception of Western culture has changed. I'm talking about real Western culture, before the emos and post-modernists took over. I'm talking about the European culture of the era just before World War I.

Yeah, it's not like the mentality of people in Africa is responsible for the AIDS epidemic, or warlords, or genocides, or the trampling of womens' rights, or.....

Anorexia is so much worse than genocide.

Well SOME western people CAN and ARE emo, for whatever reasons. I'm not saying all are, but you see there are some considerations, without going to extremes like mvass always likes to (not that it proves any point really). Usually the richer you are, the more arrogant you are, and the more you have, the more you want, without being more happy

What's the point in working to always get more, because once you have a lot you are bored too easily and want more and more? It's a bad mentality really

Well, the US is technically a representative democracy, but it could use a lot of improvements.

What kind of democracy uses as ridiculous system as the Electoral College?
What kind of democracy doesn't use some kind of proportional representation?
What kind of democracy can there be when voters are so flagrantly lead by the media and religious organizations?
What kind of democracy can there be when efforts like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are credible?
What kind of democracy has such uninformed voters?
What kind of democracy has torture centers like in Guntanamo Bay?

There can be a great deal of improvement. But technically the US is a democracy most of the time, since whoever a plurality of voters vote for gets elected.

Actually, there was some study, I don't where it was, but it showed that rich people were happier in general.

It's called a human democracy

Please, tests on humans for me are less than 50% reliable almost all times. Not only that, but "happiness" is not by itself that concrete either. I don't place that much faith in such "studies", regardless of how good intentions the researches have here

Come on! Some of those mistakes are not "inherent human qualities". Certaiinly some are difficult to fix (such as voter education), but others, like the Electoral College, really aren't.

Quote:

Well, if people consider themselves happy, then they are.

Moonlith:
Well, one can view Bush that way, perhaps, and some of the 19th century Presidents, but certainly not all of them are pupppets.
