Organization of the modders workshop discussion

I noticed Vokial is currently busy reorganizing the modders workshop, so I decided to put up this thread. Because I have some ideas I would like to share, that can make up for an interesting discussion.

Lack of space

In first place I think the space on the first page for unsticky threads is far too small. I think when a modder releases his work there should be more time for it to last on the first page. Yes it is true you can reach other pages by just one click of the button, but for guests this seems quite a large psychological barrier. Seriously: my Heroes of Axeoth mod got hardly any downloads the last few weeks, but since bloodly asked his odd question there is a significant increase. This makes me believe that a lot of people are actually not able to find the mods they want on this forum.
I have the luxury that my mods mostly imply a lot of gameplay discussions that keeps there threads alive for quite some time. But mods like the runelords and heretics which are in my opinion pretty cool are already on the third page, while they were released only very recently.

About the modders phonebook

Now we have the modders phonebook of course, but the amount of views of this thread doesn't seem to be very overwhelming. For comparison:

Adding creatures to TOE started 30 dec 2007 = 12210 views
Modders phonebook started july 2007 = 9338 views

The first problem is I think the title of it. The linguistic capacities of the original author using a metaphor are respectable but i would rather prefer title like: List of all mods on heroes community!!! or Looking for mods, look here first!!!

The second problem is the update speed and the lack of clear descriptions. @Vokial: I understand this is a lot of work so please don't take this criticism personally. I think this forum could easily use two active moderaters. Furthermore I have some easy solutions for making more space:

1. Why don't merge the QP awards thread with the table of contents. It hardly gets any views or replies at all (2000 views since march 2007)

2. I think the modders tools thread (which is an excellent topic btw)can also be merged with the wiki thread or the FAQ thread.

3. Maybe the amount of threads on every page can be increased by the administrator to the size of the temple of ashan.

About the modding threads

Now some comments on the new modding threads by vokial. Great idea but I fear the following threads may disappear to page 7 quite fast:

-sounds and music, because players who simply want to change it can be pointed to the wiki and the few people making serious work of it (campaign builders like kronos) will probably discuss there problems in there own threads.

-texts and interface, I believe there are currently very few interface modders active on this forum.

-3d and geomtries, the survival of this thread will depend on the conversion problem, so we will see.

About the map scripting thread: This is a very important thread but
I think it should be moved to the mapmaking guild and made sticky there. The only mapping discussions in the modders workshop should be in the large campaign/mod threads. I don't want the modders workshop to become a sattelite of the mapmaking guild.

Well this was everything I have to say for now, enough material for an active discussion isn't it?

Nice post, but most of the ideas in it was already planned. You just have to wait for everything. Anyway thanks for the nice ideas.

They are aspects of the heroes 5 moddig and deserve separate threads.

But its also fact, that we have tones of scripting threads here.

That was not my problem, I just believe they will not be popular enough to survive.

In two sorts of threads: Q/A and Large Campaign/Mod Combinations.
I just think this forum must not attract mapmakers who are only busy with making maps without modded content. Because that's not the purpose of this forum. We have the mapmaking guild for that.

I love the idea with enlarging the site. Truly I haven't noticed it is smaller than The Temple of Ashan. I'll PM Val 'cause its a issue I really want to see.
