I think the most deadly thing on HG is something that noone talks about.

In most games my opponent says "no hit and run". So agreeing to this rule the scariest thing for the other side is if one side gets double or triple town.(once i got triple stronghold...woo hoo).

This is why, I like to play with no rules on hg.  Other then hit and run, there's not much you can do against that.

All the luck in the world won't save you from 3 times the troops.  (Ok, I know I'm not right, but I'm close )

Your enthusiasm for this map sure outweighs mine, Mo.  I'm shocked.

Thank you Mocara

It is like christmas morning , I guess thats what is so addictive, and if the relics on the isle the tombs and the utoia are presents, the stocking consists of the joiners you get.  hehe. will there be any lvl 7's that want "greater glory" ?
and then the next questions are:
hmmm my relics are crap, and only a few good joiners.  looks like he is building a second castle. lets go see if we can catch him with his pants down

:) hourglass 3 then would be the suggestion

I didnt realize how many people still play HG2 instead of HG3. With the cows at utopia being set to savage in 3, I think it makes for a much better playing map. also if its a clan game with you I want to at least have the opportunity to get dip, if your gonna pick dip hero to start hg3 gives that option at least. I can go get the pandora's box to catch up a little

I think mocara stated my point better than i did.  This relic race is more like Cristmas morning.

lol ... you know what would be great, is if mocara got the titan's cuirass and tome of earth, and I got the red orb.

There seems to be some intentional misunderstanding about what is a "luck" map. It's definitely not a map that does not require skill, far from it, it takes a great skill to develop and master an "ironclad strategy". People like Rych on HG, Flamingo on DW or Joe, Tim, Midnight or Phantom on Randoms are the best example that it's not all about luck.

I used to play Battle for Power like that, i knew what i was going to do in opening week, and i knew how to adapt to all diferent scenarios ( I alway play random town/hero). That map did wonders for my record 30-40 wins for 1 loss to trainer using Dueduedue. But it doesn't make it a non-luck map, the contents of utopias, survivors, island relics  and spells could have a big influence on the outcome. But you cauld also make your own luck using some of the features of the map to youy advantage: central town and libraries as well as underground relics and golem factories.

I think that map is a luck map if two equally proficient players meet on it then the outcome will be decided by random elements. What do you do if ur topia has 1 black and u get a bag of gold from it? Your survivors have yielded nice mana regeneration and Eagle Eye arties, and your joins suck? That map (HG) as are most other maps, is designed funnel all the events towards a big final battle, limiting all other options and if u don't have the goods going into that battle you will lose. (remember opponents are of equal skill).

Not that there is anything wrong with HG, i played it a number of times and quite enjoyed it, but the level of enjoyment from that map is nothing compared to a rush of a well fought War on 7 Lakes. I say War, because a lot of times there isn't just one deciding battle, but an entire campaign with both sides enjoying momentary adavantage only to lose it to a clever opponent's countermeasure.

I am still in process of playing Mocara on it and after two nights i still have no clue who will win. I started behind with Moc grabbing purple's town with capitol and everything up to lv7 prebuilt. He was killing me with his extra fast main - Cyra with sultans and devils, and limitless supply of gold. That is until he made  a mistake and I outmanouvered him to take his town with free capitol, sultans and devils (stripped of units but who cares) to give my Solly so badly needed 1st strike on attack. But not before he surrendered on some monsters, rehired in his town and took most of my behemoths out with a well placed Implo, then surrendered and went to wreak havoc in other parts of the map.

I seemed to be in control with equally fast unit and chain, and have beaten his foray back losing only few goblins and diamond golems to his 2 devils and 1 sultan. All I needed was to upgrade my devils, when wham he delivers some AA's from his impregnable island town and the balance shifts again. This is all in addition to numerable battles and retreats from AI, mainly orange who is now stronger then both of us combined and determined to win this game

well that long story does have a point, on larger open/semi open maps you have more options to make your luck then anywhere else. This is why i like randoms as well, not only are those maps fresh everytime but given enough variables you can have multiple ways of gaining an upper hand.

Sorry about the long post, now i am off to watch my Maple Leafs trash Tampa Bay

Salivating

Yeah Maxym, that game sounds like a great one. I've had my most favorite games ever go like that- it is a war instead of one final battle, with all sorts of strategies going into it. Much more fun, you aren't sure until you lose the last hero or beat your opponents last hero who will win. Cause it often comes down to one hero running for one final advantage artifact or something, barely making it and defeating enemy hero to race back and retake the key towns and survive for another month, in fact many of the best games I played never ended with heroes having fought about 5 main battle type of confrontations and having to retreat and get more reserves of units and spells.

That is what luck is about also- knowing the map and scenarios possible you make your own, but in closed maps there are less options to do that and so it often comes down to artifacts and same town types rather than a larger skill/strategy.

Ok the end is here:

This is the end, my only friend, the end...

But i am too tired to post anything more, so for those who know the outcome don't say a work. I'll write it up all nice and dramatic

I for one can't wait to read this Maxym..rofl

-Mocara =)

P.S. I did not consider it a mistake to give you the inferno.

Knowing I had Arc Angels and this game being all about first strike capability there was no way I was going to get into a turf war w/Lightning Boy over those now worthless Inferno units.

I knew you wanted the capital but taking the gold mines from you basically gave me the advantage in the economic tradeoff.

And here I thought you were omniscient after that game =)

Thanks Zanuda, but since this isn't published i don't think the copyright applies.

As far as the battle is concerned, i never consider myself omniscient I was just in a dire straits, being squeezed dry trying to maintain an army without a source of income. I desperately needed the capitol, not really caring about the 1st strike. That came about it later when u got Implo in my starting town, but before i even had merc to upgrade devils, u had your AA.

Btw if you hit and run me on the way to your inferno i might not have made it. But then again if you didn't stop at my starting town , then you wouldn't have Implo to H&R with. SO many variables and options...

But as far as the finale of the game is concerned.  I went on a tear taking 3 towns on mainland north of purple: Tower, Stronghold and Tower. Last two fully build up. And the library in last Tower has given me a prize: TP. This is what i was referring to, Defreni. I felt so confident i can expand on the map and be able to return in time to stop Moc from wreaking havoc behind my back.

Boy did he prove me wrong, he used his fresh AAs from his starting town on a scout, to take my stronghold. Then surrendered Cyra (his main) rehired her there, took out a orange main- Tamika, loaded with goodies, and then took my southernmost mainland tower. I was taking over green's starting Castle to get my own AAs. Seemed like a good tradeoff, except that he got TP in my tower. Now my advantage was gone.

I got H&R few more times, even in my town, losing my AA (i left the other one behind knowing he still had 1st strike on attack and if I had 2 both would be toast) throng of M.gremlins, birds and more then 10 scouts, including my carefully groomed Deemer, who has made Mocara pay, before

But i got lucky again, finding cape of velocity, so i could stop worrying about his H&R. I managed to get  my own strike in taking out 2 of his now 7 AAs. Mocara was counting on me attacking on my turn with my single AA, and he kept taking off his speed necklace on his turn and puting it back at the end. And if it wasn't for the fact that i knew there was a cape i could get to, and a vague suspicion he might be doing that, I would have taken the bait and got fried; Game Over.

Instead i got lucky once  more and finally got fly in the tower where Moc got his TP. When he was busy taking my other tower, i flew into his impervious Castle (with shoreline completely surrounded with holes made by his anti-invasion digging brigade) and took his town. And that was a bit anticlimatic end of that epic war. He gracefully conceded.

Thanks for the game Moc.

I really had to work as hard if not harder then when i played Frank.

Big hairy deal Zanudas. Jim Morrison is dead isn't he?

Hey Maxym, you write awesome posts about games, especially this one with Mocara. When I played him, even though it didn't last very long, I was honestly on the edge of my seat. There's something about playing him that is compelling. Perhaps it is his skill in using smaller, more numerous armies and not the usual massive main like so many others do.

I'd give anything for a tenth of that skill.

*smile*

Hehee, seeing that ppl like ur post Maxym and Moc, It reminded me of how I learned alot about playing TOH.
Moc, u had a clan with Frank Salamandre and one more, in season 1. In that clan u had a homepage, where u had written comments to alot off ur games.
I think it was Frank who was updating it, if that still exist somewhere u might ask Ves to put a link to it somewhere. That way ppl can satisfy their curiosity about reading about great games. Coz their where some awesome among them.

Regards
Defreni
Who is fairly sure, that that homepage is one of the reason Im so intimadeted by u Moc
