ICTC 3: Outsiders

AJfs NOTE:
It seem most of the typical fantasy races have been well done already.  In sorta of flight of fancy, partly as a challenge, I attempted to do a more gSci-Fih themed army.  Taking inspiration from Starcraft, Halo, Stargate, and all thing Sci-FI goodness.  However, instead of high tech Sci-fi, it would be more of a mix of arcan with out magic type of flavor, more of that gAncient Civilization build by Alienh type of thing.  I hope it still fit. (but even if you don't feel it fit, do please still look at the game play mechanic and strategy of it)

It actually too me 2 week to finalize the whole thing.  Not an easy challenge.  


LORE:    
The Outsiders, know as Xanthian, are race from the outer-dimensional.  Their Empire stretches cross several stars and world. (or something like thatc I will save the lore writing for someone who is better at it  )

Racial Skill:  Star Crystal
---------------------------------------------


Xanthianfs racial skill is the Star Crystal.  Star Crystal are a special crystal deployed onto the battlefield that are used to charge up and boost Xanthianfs unitfs ability or stats.  Xanthian hero can deploy certain amount of crystal onto the field during the deployment phase.  The crystals have several properties, including its own HP, link radius (usually 3 tiles), and charges.  

Most of the Xanthian unit have abilities that require a gchargeh of the crystal, this mean to use it, the unit must be within crystalfs link radius, and it will deplet 1 charge of crystalfs energy.  

Crystal can come in 3 different charges (red = 3 charge, yellow = 2 charge, green= 1 charge), and once used, it take time to recharge it back. (about 1.5 turn).  Thus if a unit use a ability that cost 1 charge near a red crystal, the crystal is than turn to yellow, and would take some time to recharge back to red (assume if no one use it again).

A Crystal has no attack, and can not move by its own.  Red crystal have about 250hp, Yellow have 175hp, green have 100hp.  It has recharge speed of a 5 Initiative.

>Basic Star Crossing: At start of the battle, Hero can deploy 1 green crystal.  
>Advance Star Crossing: At start of the battle, Hero can deploy 1 yellow crystal.  
>Expert Star Crossing: At start of the battle, Hero can deploy 1 red crystal.  

>Amply Crystal: (Hero passive skill) All crystalfs link radius increase by 1.
>Star Crosser: (Hero passive skill) Hero can deploy 1 extra green crtyal at start of turn.
>Power Charge: (Hero active skill) recharge all crystal by 1 charge.
>Diamond Crystal: (Hero passive skill) All crystalfs hp increase by 100.
>Defensive Shield: (Hero active skill) For one turn, all damage done to crystalfs decrease by 50%.

Lv. 1 Herald / Harbinger : Emissary

[ Lore ]
A slave race of the Outsider.  They act as a herald, a scout for the oncoming conquering army.  They are also often used as cannon folder on battlefield as well.

[ Looks ]


Small Goblin-like being riding on top of low-flying disc.  Have spanning blades rotating around the disc.

Damage: 1-2 / 1-3

[Herald Abilities:]
-Flyers

-*Energy Blast: (active ability) Fire a shot at target enemy at range.  Cost 1 charge.

- Crystal Mover:  (active ability) Allow this unit to target a nearby (4 tiles) Star Crystal and relocate it 1 tile next to this unit.    


[Harbinger Upgrade Abilities:]

-*Speed Amplify: (active ability) Increase Speed  by 2 and Initiative by 3 for the next turn. (Cost 1 charge)

-No enemy retaliation


[Emissary Upgrade Abilities:]
- Crystal Hauler: (active ability) Allow this unit to target a nearby (6 tiles) Star Crystal and relocate it 1 tile next to this unit.    


[ Usage ]
Mostly use for carry crystal around, as well as a meat shield.  They also provide the initial range attack for early part of the game.

Lv.2 Guardian / Crystal Guardian : Omega Guardian

A mechanical drone developed to protect.

[ Looks ]

A Large mechanic looking golem.

Attack: 1/ 2: 3
Defense: 3/ 4:4
Damage: 1-4 / 1-5 : 1-5
Hit Points: 16 /18 : 18
Speed: 5 /5 : 5
Initiative: 7 /8 : 8
Shoots: 0
Mana: 0

[Guardian Abilities:]
- Mechanical
- Shielded:  This unit take 33% less damage from all non-magical shooting attacks.  
- *Force Shield: (active ablity) erect a force shield around this unit for 1 turn.  Friendly unit within 2 tiles (and this unit) receives only 50% of damage from all attacks. (unless the attacker are in the shielded area too). Cost 1 Charge.


[Crystal Guardian Upgrade Abilities:]
- Crystal Mover:  (active ability) Allow this unit to target a nearby (4 tiles) Star Crystal and relocate it 1 tile next to this unit.    

-Crystal Protection:  All star crystals within 3 tile from this unit gain extra 40% more hp.
-Repair Crystal:  This unit is able to repair damage Star Crystals (active ability)  
-Force Defense:  This unit gain 75% more Defense when in Defense mode.


[Omega Guardian Upgrade Abilities:]
-Self Repair: (active ablity)  This unit can repair friendly mechanical creature and war machine, as well as it self.
-Magic Proof 50%
-Force Defense:  This unit gain 75% more Defense when in Defense mode.
-Push:  This unitf attack push back enemy unit by 2 tile.

[ Usage ]
Obviously this unit is use for defense.  Park it with bunch of other units and a star crystal.  Crystal Guardian is design more to protect the star crystals, while Omega more to protect units and it self.

A large crystal floating in air, bounded by mechanical devices.

Initiative: 6 /7 : 7
Shots: 0

[Star Crystal Abilities:]
- Mechanical
- Green State:  this crystal started as green (1 charge)
- Re-energize:  (active ability) Increase charge by 1.  (speed of its charge is depended on number of unit in its stack)

[Solar Crystal Upgrade Abilities:]
- Yellow State:  this crystal started as Yellow (2 charge)
- Re-energize:
- *Solar Burst: (active ability) Creature damage all creature around itself (damage depended on the number of creature in stack, the charge on the crystal, and if there are other star crystal within 3 space). (1 charge)  

[Moon Crystal Upgrade Abilities:]
- Yellow State:  this crystal started as Yellow (2 charge)
- Re-energize:
-Energy Channel
-Teleportation

[ Usage ]
Its used as an extra star crystal that provide charge to rest of your units.  One strategy is to have several stack of crystals, so you get a lot of charges to power your special attacks.  However, a fine balance need to draw, as having too many small stacks also mean they re-charge slower, easier to destroy, and you cannft get other units in.  Solar Crystal have a good attack ablity that could use to surprise enemy.  Moon crystal have more mobility, which could go well with astral walkers.

- *Charge Shot: (Active Ability) Fire a Shot at 50% increase in damage and attack power. Cost 1 Charge.

[Nova Guard Upgrade Abilities:]
-No Melee Penalty
- *Plasma Shot: (active Ability) Fire a shot that damage 3x3 tile at +25% damage. Cost 1 charge.

[Sun Sniper Upgrade Abilities:]
-Ranged Retaliation
-No Range Penalty
-Crystal Scope:  This creaturefs damage increase by 25% if is next to (1 tile away) a Star crystal.    

[ Usage ]
The main shooter of the army.  Is quite powerful if park next to a Crystal.

-*Warp Touch: (active ability) Deal a melee attack with no melee penalty, and at +25% more damage. (1 charge)  


[ Warp Courier Upgrade Abilities:]
-*Transporter:  Teleport any none-large creature friendly unit within 4 tiles to location next to this unit.  (1 charge)
- Crystal Hauler: (active ability) Allow this unit to target a nearby (6 tiles) Star Crystal and relocate it 1 tile next to this unit.    


[ Usage ]
Act like a skirmisher unit.  They have great movements, especially when the star crystals are deployed in key locations on the field.  Great to use for a hit-n-run.  Warp Runner has more attack power, but lack the shots, although they could do decent damage in melee too.  Warp Courierfs job is primary carry other unit around.

The elite of ousiderfs army.  Those ruthless Conquers of the star are train from birth in the art of saber combat and unyielding loyalty.

[ Usage ]
Much like Wight and Rakshasa, a melee powerhouse.  Power Charge allow them to hit hard and long distance, to quickly rush in.  They also become very powerful if they stay next to crystal, which would be a crucial strategy. (provide synergy with crystal moving units)

[Star Destroyer Upgrade Abilities:]
-*Energy Beam: (Active Ability) Deal damage to all creature in a frontal row (2 tiles wide) across the whole field.  (2 Charge).  (the damage also increase for any crystal within 2 tiles space)

-Orbital Crystal:  This creature carry a green start crystal.

- Re-energize:  (active ability) Increase charge by 1.  (speed of its charge is depended on number of unit in its stack)


[ Usage ]
Think of it as a moving air fortress.  While not as powerful as many lv 7 creatures, nor has good speed, it does have a very heavy defense and hp.  Star Defender is the more defensive version, while Destroyer the more offensive version.  It is also another moving Star Crystal.

Army Strategy
----------------------------------------------
Obliviously, Star Crystal is a key in this armyfs strategy.  Starshooter and Invader are the 2 main offensive unit, while other played more of a support.  While most unit can do well by them self, they fully shine when they are next to the Star Crystals.  Thus keeping the crytal alive and recharge is the challenge in playing this army, for the enemy will most likely target those crystals first.  

Keep in mind that the cost of the units would be relative expensive, and growth rate slow, which would be a blancing factor against their stats/ablity.

Interesting.  Reminds me of a starcraft/stargate sg-1/Masters of Orion 2/Halo combo .  Should be very interesting.

And for the faction to keep this post ontopic. IS this faction going to be rated M. bad joke sorry. I would love to see a mix of technology and magic. when you think about technology is about as magical as magic.

Thanks for the support.. I was crying all night from that post... sniff sniff... (well.. just not from my eyes...) ha.

Anyhow.. I think you could still get by with "Arcanic Alien Technology" in a Hero's Universe.  Those would be technology that look and feel more like magic and arcan object, than futuristic technology.  (ie, difference between Protoss and Marines)...

Anyhow, that was a fun excersie..maybe will post my other, more traditional faction up later...

nice job, but i don't think bio-robots fit itno the franchise. its pretty much like forge, and forge was a cool thingy, but it just didn't fit.

Cohesiveness: 7/10 (fits astounding well because the Might and Magic series is known for some sci-fi elements spread within at least in the older games)

Imagination: 15/15 (new creative approach for Heroes)

Back story: 0/10 (is there any despite of coming from outer-dimension?)

Battle facets: 9/10 (the crystal thing is a great idea, the army seems to be well balanced)

Discretionary: 2/5 (for the unusual and brave approach)

Cohesiveness: 8/10 points
as snatch said, the units CAN be coherent with HoMM universe. Not giving enough developement to the story, however, didn't feel making these seem coherent.


Imagination: 13/15 points
I expected someone to try somewhat a cyborg faction, and there you are. However, after this initial inspiration you get lost. It's truly a pity.


Back story: 1/10 points
missing one, missing connection to the series, missing just anything that could justify a mark. A point just because you somewhat justified their presence.


Battle facets: 7/10 points
specified roles and a mildly interesting racial, but lacks developement at all.


Discretionary: 4/5 points
because I liked the original idea, mainly, but you should have put more effort into this. The original idea wasn't also used by anyone, so you wasted a lot of potential.


Overall Score: 33/50

PS: that big rusty robot with the emerald... where did you find it?

Cohesiveness(5+4)=9 The theme is just great! It really fits into the Sci-fi background of the old universe.
Imagination(4+2+5)=11 I like how you designed this faction, but it lack inventive ideas (apart from crystals)
Back Story(0+0)=0 No story, no points
Battle Facets(4+3)=7 I like your idea of crystals, but the two shooters seem to be quiet imbalanced

Discretionary: +1 for stats; -1 for no emblem

Total Score=27

An interesting town, but do to my biased opinon of technology in Homm I can't rate the town.  This is because I want to be fair, and having a biased opinon going in would not be very fair.
