Poll Question:
[MOD] Quicksilver III

After releasing QuicksilverII, I wanna make one step foreward and continue my work. I wil make QuicksilverIII. It will be something similar what QS2 had to be at first. I've started new thread because it will be easier to follow all the progress, and I made a poll here to know what town to exclude from QS3. I will count the results when only two towns will left unfinished.
All in all, this project will combine Heroes3 and Heroes5.
All progress will be written here,in this post. I will edit it after something will be done.



So what town would you like to see most in H5(TotE)?

I didn't really know how to vote, because it seems to me you want to replace the fortress town. If you want to make a h3 fortress isn't it better to use the sylvan town, because you can easily make it look swampy? I think for h3 dungeon I would use dungeon and for conflux academy.

Hold up.. so i'm working on bringing h3 to h5 for nothing?  QSIII is basically the same thing as my h3 to h5... isn't it??  If so.. why can't we combine efforts?

I'm confused...

Haven will be converted to Castle (so one level change and a few name changes at least)
Sylvan -> Ramparts (Centaur moved and changed (already done I think), Dwarf unit included, Pegasus created, one level change)
Academy -> Tower
Dungeon -> ...
???

Can you complete that diagram for me?

And mostly for my own benefit:
Units in H3 that would have to be made in some way from H5 ones:

Pegasus (tricky if not almost impossible)
Naga (effectively impossible)
Troglodyte (fairly easy)
Harpy (again, tricky / almost impossible)
Beholder (very tricky, esp. since there's one already)
Medusa (as Harpy, may be impossible)
Gog (probably easy)
?Demon (?)
?Pit Fiend (?)
Efreet (easy)
Wight (should be okay)
Gnoll (tricky)
Lizardman (effectively impossible)
Serpent Fly (ditto)
Basilisk (depends)
Gorgon (tricky)
Wolf Rider (v. tricky)
Orc (?)
Roc (effectively impossible)
Behemoth (probably tricky*)
Upgraded elementals (easy)
Magic elemental (?)

Plus many others that would need changing e.g. Centaur, Dwarf, Monk

So which ones are you going to investigate doing? How?

*Idea: use Warrior for Orc, the level 5 Orcs for both Ogre and Cyclops, then Cyclops for Behemoth; or Beta Treant for Behemoth; or Demon Lord for Ogre, etc..

my idea was as such:

pit lord (h3) - recolor shadow witch (has whip like h3 pit lord!) or succubus
behemoth - HV pit lord - retextured w/ fur color
Pegasus (already done in GOTP)
Naga (Fire element retexture?)
Troglodyte (fairly easy)
Beholder (working on it.. needs tentacles.. if not clouds/electric)
Medusa (Fire element retexture?)
Efreet (already done - red djinn)
Wight (I just need to recolor brown)
Basilisk (exists - lizard rider w/o rider))
Gorgon (tricky)
Wolf Rider (HV Wolf w/o rider?)
Roc (brown pheonix)
Upgraded elementals (easy)
Magic elemental (Multiplayer Ghost recolor)

Stronghold->Stronghold more h3-like
Dungeon->....depends on voting
Fortress->....depends on voting
(Names will not change)

Almost nothing is done for that in QS2 as I lost all the things I've done earlier.

QS3 will not only make H5 look more like H3, but it also have it's own upgrade system, it's own stats and many more things changed. So our projects are not exactly the same. And about joining forces...I'm not used to work in group, because I have my own ideas and needs. I'm always the leader of team or working alone.
Well, you can continue your work, as it won't be the same.

I already started working on Haven.

I don't understand the question...but I think it's better not to share, because the projects would become almost the same. BUT we can share our experience, I think.

Hmm, it does seem silly to have the two projects going since you'll need to create the same creatures, Naga, Wight etc.. If you share the textures though you'll end up with two similar modpacks, as BJ has just said. The best bet would be a team effort but BJ seems to have decided against that. I suppose the only thing left is for pause to make textures for BJ.

Actually my project will not be full H3 to H5. I'm combining both series I.e., I will leave Rakshasa instead of making Naga, just some names corected, I won't make Gogs, where will be succubus instead it and etc. I will just make it similar, so that for H3 lovers would be easier and more fun to play. Also I will make MORE changes as it's supposed to be in QS. So everybody will be happy.

Why don't you want to do a full conversion? Too much effort?

I guess maybe BJ could do his project and pause could make an `extension` QS3.5 that does a more complete conversion of the game, and maybe doesn't include the 1>2>3 upgrade system...???

The effort is not a problem. Just why reinvent something when we already have similar things to use. And I think it's enough discussions about it, we'll see what and how will come out.

wow.. why all the politics? I don't mean to cause a rucus, and i agree bj, urs is slighty dif and i would rather not re-invent the wheel. I'm trying to make a complete overhaul for my own selfish purposes. I intend to do it even if i have to do it completely on my own (don't get me wrong, the more that help me the merrier). I just think that between our two mods the things that are alike could be shared to save everyone time, but if not, no big deal too. sorry to continue, but that's my closing arguement.

(To be honest I think you should sort all this out now, and not just see how it goes, imho.)

Maybe the level 6 Dwarves could be used as Ogres or something. Basically the thing to do would be to use as many of the creatures that wouldn't be used, as H3 ones - so, all but one unit of the H5 Fortress (assuming it gets replaced) as e.g. Ogres, the Dark Elves as ???, Blade Dancers as ??? etc. (not too many options I guess).

Troglodyte: ToK is on it and I doubt we'd mind letting you use ours.  We are all modders and are supposed to help each other out, not argue over "copyrights".

Basilisk:  Way ahead of you.
Gorgon:  Use one of the Barbarians' oxen, minus the rider.
Wyvern:  In the game already.
Hydra:  In the game already.

The Wyverns in Stronghold could be replaced with Rocs and Thunderbirds.

And I say why not do the full conversion and bring back all classic units, but maybe after the basic framework for the mod is done, otherwise you just have naggling loose ends which can be easily tied up.

yes.. my mod aims to do a full over load (minus secondary skills and magic schools) focusing mainly on creatures.  I'll try to have a Behemoth together over the weekend.
