My house was broken into

When I got home from school I found my door broken open and I was terrified.  I called my parents and they came home, and only then did I feel confident enough to enter the house, since I had no idea whether the burgler(s) were still inside.  But when I walked through, even though nothing but my money ($210) was taken, I felt like I didn't have a home anymore, just a big wooden thing with glass and nails that looked like my home.  Since I have had friends over lately for a school project there is a bit of suspicion on them, thus I have had noone to talk to about this.  That's partially why I'm posting here.

I'm sorry to hear that man!

Of course, the most important thing is that you and your loved ones aren't hurt.

Your life is more important than the money.

And, yes, I do know that feeling (the dread of feeling out of place in your own home), even though I can't relate to being robbed. Never have, hope I never am.

I had an interesting life well lets just say, it happened to me a couple of times.
Whats funny is that it;'s usually the person you talk to alot but not like a really close friend.
They see something interesting & they will get it.
Use your instincts, This is you house.
Dont be afraid to make assumptions, usually your gut feeling is right.

It sucks & it makes you angry at the same time.
I doubt there is nothing to be scared about.
Most likely it was someone you know & I really would not doubt it if it was one of those friends from your class when they came over.
Should be glad they did not take anything else like they did with me.

Watch behaviors.
I garuntee if it was one of those classmates, they will have a differentual behavior.
Maybe more ignorance or trying to be more of a buddy.
Maybe they bought more then they usually do.
Just watch out.

Dont feel unsafe in your home.
Like i said it was someone you know & they been in your house.
I would not doubt if it was a closer friend then you think.

This is what we've done to secure our house

Locks (duh!)
Dog (She really isn't terrifying, but then again, some people are really, really scared of dogs.)
Judo (we hang the outfits in the hall, that way people can see that this house boasts martial artists.)

Otherwise you could just make your house/appartment look less attractive, break all the windows and scatter garbage across the rooms.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Don't worry, the confidence feeling in your house will come back with the time. You're lucky that nothing but 210$ was taken.

Anyway, if you want to talk about it a bit more... Go ahead.

Which of your friends knew that you had 210$ there, and where you kept it? That is a very good place to start. Apparently the burglar knew what he wanted and where he would get that.

@Minion: All of them presumably.  I kept it in a rather obtrusivly situated box on my dresser, and they could have looked when I was out of the room (getting the door, the bathroom, etc)

@Others: Thanks.

Your house wasn't in a mess right? Cause if I was a thief who didn't know where the stuff was, I wouldn't waste time to gently go through your drawers etc.
That supports your theory about your pals being responsible.

Don't be so paranoid and just go talk about it to your friends. You did trust your friends before the burglary? Why you wouldn't be able to trust them now? Make shure you have informed the police about the burglary and if you seriously suspect a "friend" of yours did it then the police might want to hear if you have any likely suspects.

I really don't think that a friend of yours was the burglar. I don't think that burglars need to plan their crime all that much. They propably just pick a house, keep an eye on it just long enough to know when the resident is out and then break in and pick up the money and perhaps some items that are easily made into money. Then the burglar will take some distance to the crimescene and Isn't propably coming back unless they are stupid.

What would even be the motive for your friends to break into your house and take your money? Have any of them had some money issues lately? Where do you think your friends were at when you were at the place where you go at that time of day?

I hope that I have enlightened someone or inspired someone to jump out of the bushes and shove my extremely unprofessional opinion up the gutter to annoy the janitor and tell me that I'm completely wrong.

I'm feeming sorry for you Daystar...

Luckily only your money was stolen, and money is replaceable. Besides, if you (or your parents rather) are insured versus burglary, you will be able to recuperate the money you lost.

I agree fully with Winterfate; The ones you care about are more important than money... But I would advise you to take precautions, they may return, and that time the situation may turn very dire indeed.

I use the term "Friend" loosely.  They range from the person I would call my best friend to someone I only recently stopped hating.  The strange thing is that the ones who I trust the most are most needing of money and the one who I recently stopped hating is rich (Lawyer born) and was out of school the afternoon of the burglary.

But I might just be being paranoid.

The one thing I want to tell you from the developing of this discussion...

Beware of letting what happened to create tentions between you and your friends. Don't become suspecious towards the ones you trust, more than you are naturally. Even if one of your friends is somehow related to this, if you start suspecting your friends it may spoil your relationship with ones who have nothing to do with it.

GL is right, you should not be suspicious of everyone. But still, try to find out who that was, should you be able to.

Find out who did it and rip his damn face off and then.....

Nah, there is no reason to be suspicious to your friends. I guess if you consider someone more than a friend then the next guy, then why not just approach them? I guess if you can talk to them about it and be honest then maybe they might provide some answers or something.

Have you gone to the police as well? I know it is just money, but it was a fair bit and the door was broken or whatever happened.
