Heroes of Might and Magic: Classic

Now I'm sure such a thing exists as a mod that causes the game to go back to the way the older games were, but this is a general "Classic" mod. It takes elements that I think work from each game and bring them to the modern game. Even if there are a million recreation mods, I have my own ideas and spins on it, coming from a 12-year experience with the series.

Some features include:

* Creature stats that closely follow that of the previous games
* Creature redesigns
* Classic Heroes from all previous Heroes games
* Return of the "Battle-Start" Fanfare from Heroes III
* *NEW* Hand-drawn, redesigned Heroes from previous Heroes games portraits
* *NEW* Recreations of the best Scenarios from every past Heroes game
* *NEW* Some sound effects, spell/skill names and some icons and menus redesigned to reflect the previous games

In the beta (release date: when it's ready), It will have demo map, Broken Alliance (you know, basically the best Heroes II map, and arguably in the whole series). Also, it will be restricted to Castle town, and you will be given a specific hero (probably Christian). The reason for this is, the Castle town is the only one that's basically done.

I'll keep you all posted as I make my progress.

*Taken out for now, because it's dated. The redesigned Giant and Titan now have armor, more believable looking helmets, and a chainmail sash.

Yes, your eyes do not decieve you -- The Giant/Titan helmets return! And obviously a few things need touching-up. For instance, Lord Kilburn's icon looks pretty choppy. If anything looks kinda bad, expect them to be improved.

Well, as with the last two similar projects, I'm most interested in how you've shuffled the creatures, and if/how you've tried to recreate some of the classic creatures that aren't already in HoMM5.

PS: ah, a newbie - may I ask, do you own Maya?

My project, similar to yours, was coming along well until I hit a brick wall. If you need, I can provide what little I've learned in my attempts.

Also, at the risk of sounding cynical, there are some very tough problems to overcome in a mod like this, and despite the vast amount of knowledgeable people here, very few will actually help. I excitedly await for the completion of your project!


p.s. omg! I didn't even notice that they battle intro was gone! Now that I think about it, I really miss it!

I'd definitely appreciate some help with texturing heroes. I mean I love to do textures for creatures and stuff, but doing heroes doesn't exactly interest me too much. Anyway, I appreciate that, so if there's anything you would like help with (anything really... sounds, music, textures, anything) let me know!

Anyway, if anyone could maybe tell me where I can find a program to edit Heroes V models, disable alternate-upgrades, and find the textures for the ToE creatures (I have searched high-and-freakin' low for them in the data.pak) I would appreciate it immensely!

Yeah, that's the thing.  Right now nobody has implemented a new Heroes V model successfully.  A recent discussions present the possibility that one can import models from Maya, though I don't know whether they succeeded or not.  Gnoll_Mage can tell you more.

Ah, yes, thanks for the info, Cepheus.

But unfortunately, I looked through the topic and didn't see anything in regards to disabling alternate upgrades.

Also, I know disabling alternate upgrades might detract from the game... for some people anyway, but note that I do not plan to disable them for every creature. For instance, Green Dragon can be upgraded to either Red Dragon or Black Dragon. I know that's pre-existing, but it works being one of few with alternates, and it's in a way like Heroes II.

Plus, you gotta think... I plan to use all the NCF slots added, and the alternate upgrades' slots will be used for new things as well...

Yeah, if you could. A mix of all of the heroes from the previous games (excluding V), I'd say; use your best judgment.

Oh, Fouch, the first example you give would only work for third-upgrades. =/ That's actually a pretty good idea, but I'm looking to be able to just have one upgrade for a base creature. I've tried several methods (including the ones you posted here), and nothing has worked thus far. It seems odd to me that it would be this difficult.

If I don't come up with a solution, I'm going to have to make a duplicate second upgrade to the first. =\ It'd be a minor setback, but I guess it'd work.

There will allways be a difference between these mods. Personally I like E-lysanders idea the most.

Wow, Mummy replace ghost... I never really liked ghost (wort! wort!)

Hey, it looks great! I'll be using this for sure.

Also, to cut down on the Dragon-whroing, I'm considering changing the Bone/Ghost Dragon to Wight/Wraith. Only problem is, this might be to detractent from the old Heroes-style.

So, what do you guys think: Keep the Dragons or use the Wights?

I don't think that you should base it so strongly on H3. You should use some elements of the H2 alignnments as well.
