I'm not native English nor American,but most people I have met in USA say holiday,when they are refering to a specific day,like Christmas.

Exactly, that's what I was trying to say. We're weird and I'm well aware of it but at least my thrills don't involve Belgium and painting bedrooms...

Not the whole holyday/vacation !
After the painting has been done, I'm going to relax and annoy welcome the newbs in HC. After have to make peace with DS (though one, it's like telling TNT how to peel a lemon). And finally I'll explain TNT how to peel a lemon (whih is like negociating with DS)

It's always summer where I live, I'm going on a winter vacation though  down south to freeze my butt off in Brisbane! I can't wait to hear the sound of rain on the streets, snuggle under blankets, and complain about how cold it is when I'm runniing from the shower.
I'm going to get in a car and drive in a straight line for at least 2 hrs without stopping or following a 2km loop around the island. I'm going to eat multinational junk food, visit restaurants, and go to supermarkets where I don't bump into half the faculty, a quater of my clients, and where a lettuce does not cost 6 dollars.
I'm meeting up with old friends, and going out - who knows maybe meet a man to remind me that there is more to life
I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can have your sunshine lol

Which DS? You have to remember that I've been here for some time and have therefore encountered MANY DS's.
Oh but anyway, I've been away from work for two months so I guess I've already had my "Summer Holiday".....in the spring. Work was slow due to the Writers Strike so I was laid off which gave me a nice two month vacation. But all good things must end. I'm back to work starting tomorrow.

We did? When? I have the memory span of a goldfish so I do not recall such an event taking place.

I just did a lot of driving around my own state. Mostly to go see my girlfriend who lives 40 minutes away from me. I took her out to a lake but we were told to leave. Apparently someone bought the lake...the whole freaking lake and they didn't want anyone trespassing on their private property. Other then that I didn't do much. You need money to do any real traveling and...well...you females are expensive sometimes.

Just about the vacation theme:
Here we use vacation ("vakáció") with apr. the same meaning. And at the end of the year, students (in primary and secondry schools) write it on the blackboard. One letter every day, starting with an exclamation mark (!) Those good old days... "áció! káció! akáció! Vakáció!!!"  
Is there a similar "ritual" in other countries?

During the vacation (and I use both vacation and holiday ) I will distribute Mc'Donalds adverts to get money to buy a bike .
Bet painting bedrooms is more fun than this...

Ok first, English doesn't originate from America..just to clear that up. Besides, we don't really speak 'English' we speak 'American'. Just ask the British .
Anyhow, this year, no vacation it seems. Got jipped out of it by the company being sold. 7 days short of earning the vacation even. Yay me. No money, no vacation, aint it grand?
However, normally I would just go sit by a lake or similar and relax for a week. All I can afford. Would like to go somewhere exotic, but not going to happen unless I get a sugar momma or something
