And lets not forget the thermonuclear bombs. Saakashviil must be completely insane(or drunk) to declare war to Russia...just in case lets build bomb shelters, who nows maybe russians would point their misiles to the countries who support Georgia(i know its a bit over the top,but being cautiuos isnt shamefull)

You can't really force independence on someone who doesn't want to be independent. But South Ossetians don't want to remain with Georgia anyway, or at least that's the impression I'm getting.

I don't know what kind of relation Georgia and Russia had, but I know that Georgia was a part of Russia for a long time, and then it seceded. Superpowers do tend to have views about territories seceding away from them.

And an A-bomb can rust as much as you'd like, it still creates a damn big hole when you throw it somewhere. Which no one really wants.

DS:
Those Tsar bombs are absolutely useless for anything more than showing off. The real stuff are the small nuclear bombs.

Baklava:
You can force independence upon a people. Just find some minor guy, have him "request" assistance, then accept their "declaration of independence", and set the guy up as the "independent" President/Prime Minister.

It's true that A-bombs, even old ones, can still cause some damage, but the rockets carrying them are mostly useless.

I know this might be offtopic but I have to say it:Russia has Tsar bombs, the largest nuclear weapons in existence, I don't remember what was their explosion radius but US's neutron bombs are piece of garbage compared to Tsar's.Americans might have upgraded their arsenal over the years, But Russia is still a huge threat, updated nuclear weapons or not.

And they can be king of the nuclear winter with those.

Correction: Saakashvili didn't ask to declare war on Russia. He asked to declare a state of war within Georgia.

Doesn't improve the situation though. Darn' politicans with their foolish motives and missplaced morals. Many innocents were, are, and will be killed in the process. We only can hope the situation improves before one side destroyed the other.

If it's between Georgia and Russia, I think it's pretty clear who'd destroy whom. On the other hand, Russia had quite a bit of trouble in Chechnya.

...which they couldn't solve either. Anyway, it can't be worse that the USSR! My mother grew up in a comunist regime, and when she came to Belgium for the first time she was so shocked that she still calls Communism the greatest dissapointment in history. Ditto for her parents.

ANyway we're drifting off-topic. The Radio mentionned 30.000 fugitives this morning... Any news about that?

If a nation is composed of a distinct ethnic unit with a history of being independent (like Poland), that's one thing. When it's something like South Ossetia, it's another.

No, it's not.
I'll give you an example. From my region, of course. If you ever need an example for political/national pointlessness, just consult the Balkans.

See, 15 years ago, there was no such thing as a "Bosnian people". Bosnia was populated by Serbs and Croats. "Bosnians" were Serbs and Croats who lived in Bosnia.
Then, all of a sudden, with the growing of idiotic national tensions, people inhabiting Bosnia (who were mostly muslim) started calling themselves a different people. And now that's quite accepted. Some even recognize Bosnian language as different (though it's identical to Serbian and Croatian).. Imagine Tom Cruise calling himself not American but "Martian" cause he's a scientologist.
Ok, they were at least of a different religion. But what about Montenegrians? They call themselves a different people now too, though they declared themselves as Serbs for centuries. Their greatest leader in history, which they sort of worship, considered himself and his people Serbs. And now? They consider themselves and their language separate too. Like a different ethnic group.
What do you get? A handful of "different" peoples with same blood, same roots, speaking the same language, each calling themselves differently.

The point is, South Ossetians might as well call themselves a different people now too. That doesn't have anything to do with common sense, really.

Saakashvili has now asked the Georgian parliament to declare war on Russia. This is not good.

Is he out of his mind or what?

Nice hypocriticsm ,remember the things what you talked against my country.See,you said we are different,no need to be under dictatorship.

Russia is blandly an agressor who attacks georgia right now.It streches its intentions to be stornger by compromising its neighbours.

Hey look who's back.

First off, Kosovo is not a country but de facto American property, just like South Ossetia would be Russian property if it declared "independence". And besides, the majority of nations hasn't even recognized Kosovo. Those that did, did so under American pressure.

Secondly, I don't see what you found in my posts in this thread that supports either side, so I'm not really sure what you meant by "hypocrisy" (or "hypocriticsm", as you put it). You apparently either didn't read or didn't understand my post that you just quoted.

PS

What was I going to do when some Serbs would come to take my house because Kosovars were third class people in Serbia?

For those who don't know

Roughly and free translation of what Seraphim said:

2006 - Montenegro Separates itself from Serbia
2008 - Kosovo becomes independent from Serbia
2010 - Vojvodina becomes independent from Serbia
2012 - Belgrade separates itself from Serbia
2014 - Are we still talking about Serbia?

(Serbians;: correct me if I got it wrong.)

2006 - Montenegro is the heart of Serbia.
2008 - Kosovo is the heart of Serbia.
2010 - Vojvodina is the heart of Serbia.
2012 - Belgrade is the heart of Serbia.
2014 - Where is Serbia?

South ossetia declared it's independence in 1990 I think. It has had it's own president and goverment since then. It has been independent in practice for almost twenty years. It just hasn't gained any international regognition. How lond do I have to hammer it into your skull?
