Get experience yourself. I know it might not work in all areas, but since you gave example with programming, and I know about it, let's just say: if you are "known" or you can show what projects you have done, that is considered "experience". Say I am John Carmack and I make some kind of very simple 3D engine. That can be considered experience. If I am not mistaken, the whole ID software company didn't rely much (especially in early days) on "papers", they were thinking out of the box.

Well that's better if you a portfolio to show for your possible employer. It raises your chances but don't expect too much. If you want to get in some large corporation... one word: Education.

Atm I work as a carpenter with dad, at some kind of pump-station or something it's high-risk place, therefor I earn more. I am 18, but needed to get an eyeoperation before I could join the army...

Why the heck do you want to join the army then.
You're living large as it is.

Do you think they'd take one more?

Oh and that needing eye operation thing sucks.
And they cost a fortune too.

$40 an hour? Are you serious or is that a typo?

But since you got into a fight with your parents, wouldn't it be likely for your dad to fire you? (Unless you're pretty good.)

TheDeath:
Certainly. But for every John Carmack, there are a thousand failures. And it's one thing to start a company by yourself. For that, if you think you can do it, you can try. But if you're trying to get a stable job somewhere, what matters is what they think of your experience.

40$ an hour, but it will just be 20$ on a normal job. This one is kinda special and he doesn't fire me, he just wanted me out of the house, mainly. Besides, I am better than many of those educated in it.

40$ an hour? If you work 6 hours a day, in two days you earn the same, if not more, than the average Romanian in a month.

You know your dad isn't going to work forever. Some day he will retire and you're on your own, given that he doesn't have to get rid of you before that.

Even $20 an hour isn't horrible. According to my calculations, if you work full-time, you'll get a bit over $40,000 a year before taxes, and with Norway's social system, you should be able to make it. And with $40, it's twice that - pretty good, I'd say.

I read somewhere there's a new trend these days, the stuff with education-only (whether you are good at it or not) is old-fashioned (or so it said). I can't seem to find the article anymore meh.

And I suppose it's much more expensive to live here I have a very very cheap apartment and pay 700$ each month, and then with food and bus (it's cheap since it's away from town) it's even more expensive.

When I work 4 years in a job it equals 2 years at school, to be a carpenter you need no more than 2 years at school. Besides, I am anyway off to join the army next fall, and there you can get educations inside almost all jobs if you're interested.

true, but you usually need some basic knowledge (gained in school) for that. BTW, pyrotechnics is nothing without good physics and chemistry basis and martial arts knowledge is not as needed in the army as you may think.

Don't need some basic knowledge for that if you have experience already. I've had chemistry for a year and are pretty good at it. And martial art is actually practiced in the military .. believe it or not know how to shoot too, just I am no expert just above average or something like that... army is honestly the only thing I think I could have done good.

I guess you could be some sort of trainer, but that has absolutely no promotion options in the army (correct me if I'm wrong) and I doubt the pay is that good too.

Pyrotechnics? What did you had in mind? Make explosives? They have factories for that. Invent new kinds of explosive? You need high education to do that.

Good luck with your military career but I just wish to say that if it's not a success, you're sort of screwed up.

I think it's called combat engineering nowadays.
Look, I'm just saying all this is because I'm probably a little closer to the army than you are (albeit the Israeli one), because most of my friends are in their second year of service and I still have a long time in there myself ahead of me. So, I'm not sure how good you really understand all you're planning to do. If you researched it, asked around people who know how it's like (and have no personal interest to recruit you) and it is what you say it is, go for it. I just don't want you to get dissapointed after you get there.

Edit: Totoro has a got a point as well. Even if you do go to the army, after you settle down a bit try to complete your school graduation exams, just as a back up plan.
