Logic Quiz Part 1

None of these are original BTW.

A logic quiz for those interested

remember to explain your answers

1.) If some "torgs" are "teegs" and some "teegs" are "blargs" which of the following is always true given this information.

A: All blargs are torgs
B: All Teegs are torgs
C: some torgs are Blargs
D: None of the above.

2.) There are 6 brothers and only one of them is lying explain which brother is lying.

   * Bob says Mogg is honest.
   * Jim says Man or Zero is lying.
   * Phil says Man is honest.
   * Mogg says Bob or Zero is lying.
   * Zero says Jim is lying.
   * Man says that he and Phil are honest.

3.)You are traveling down a street and come to a fork in the road. Two guys are standing there, and one of them will always tell you a lie, and one of them will always tell you the truth.

Unfortunately, you don’t know which guy is which, and only one of the two roads leads to the town you need to get to.

Assuming both guys know which road leads to the town, what one question can you ask to find out which path to take?

4.)Find the pattern and find the logical next step

A/B C/D A/E D/F E/G _/_
B/C A/C A/D D/E E/F _/_

5.)A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. Five minutes later, however, they both go out and enjoy a wonderful dinner together.

How can this be?

6.)What’s the next sequence in this set?

1

11

21

1211

111221

7.)Something is wrong in this picture

8.)What is better than eternal bliss? Nothing. But a slice of bread is better than nothing. So a slice of bread is better than eternal bliss.

9.)
You dig a hole 3x4x6 feet. How much dirt is in the hole?

10.)(this one is tricky)
There is a room with no windows, doors, or any sort of opening, the walls are solid steel 10 feet thick, and you are trapped inside, left only with a saw and a table. How do you escape?

:Batch 2:
11.)
Replace the same characters by the same numerals so that the mathematical operations are correct.
RE + MI = FA
DO + SI = MI
LA + SI = SOL

12.)
I just found a number with an interesting property:

When I divide it by 2, the remainder is 1.
When I divide it by 3, the remainder is 2.
When I divide it by 4, the remainder is 3.
When I divide it by 5, the remainder is 4.
When I divide it by 6, the remainder is 5.
When I divide it by 7, the remainder is 6.
When I divide it by 8, the remainder is 7.
When I divide it by 9, the remainder is 8.
When I divide it by 10, the remainder is 9.

It's not a small number, but it's not really big, either.

Find the smallest number with such property.

13.)
How many times can you subtract the number 2 from the number 32?

round 3:
14.)
A man lives on the tenth floor of a building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator - or if it was raining that day - he goes back to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment. How come?
(This is probably the best known and most celebrated of all lateral thinking logic puzzles. It is a true classic. Although there are many possible solutions which fit the initial conditions, only the canonical answer is truly satisfying.)

15.)
There are two kinds of people on a mysterious island. There are so-called Honestants who speak always the truth, and the others are Swindlecants who always lie.
Three fellows (A, B and C) are having a quarrel at the market. A gringo goes by and asks the A fellow: "Are you an Honestant or a Swindlecant?" The answer is incomprehensible so the gringo asks B: "What did A say?" B answers: "A said that he is a Swindlecant." And to that says the fellow C: "Do not believe B, he is lying!"
Who is B and C?

16.)
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Pandora, who wanted a bright groom so she made up a few logic problems for the wannabe. This is one of them.
Based upon the inscriptions on the boxes (none or just one of them is true), choose one box where the wedding ring is hidden.

Golden box
The ring is in this box.

Silver box
The ring is not in this box.

Lead box
The ring is not in the golden box.

17.)(for the youngn's)
An old riddle is as follows: One brick is one kilogram and half a brick heavy.
What is the weight of one brick?

18.)
A teacher says: I'm thinking of two natural numbers bigger than 1. Try to guess what they are.
The first student knows their product and the other one knows their sum.
First: I do not know the sum.
Second: I knew that. The sum is less than 14.
First: I knew that. However, now I know the numbers.
Second: And so do I.
What were the numbers?

19.)
What mathematical symbol can be put between 5 and 9, to get a number bigger than 5 and smaller than 9?

20.)
Why is it better for manhole covers to be round rather than square?

21.)
What is the easiest way to throw a ball, and have it stop, and completely reverse direction quickly?

1. A

2. Can't figure it out atm.

3. Which two roads don't lead to the town you want to get to.

4. HJ, DF

5. I have to admit I used Google on this one.

The woman was a photographer. She shot a picture of her husband, developed it, and hung it up to dry.

6. 111221 is three ones, two twos, and one one.

So the next is 312211.

7. The Water Reflection is wrong (it's not the environment reflected, but something else)

8. lol nice word game, but what should I answer?

9. None, I mean a hole has no dirt... or did I miss something

10. No idea.

11.
O = 0
S = 1
I = 2
D = 3
M = 4
R = 5
E = 5
A = 7
F = 9
L = 9

12. Can't find it. But at least I know the last digit is 9

13. Once, because then you'll be subtracting from something lower than 32

There's also Google who can probably find solutions to most of these. But that's cheating as well.

For 7, I think it might be to do with the extra bit of tree up the very top. It seems as if it just there and there and it's not connected to anything (the other tree that is there seems to not connect with that other part to the right of it). That's the only guess I can give atm.

Btw. here's why answer to first question is D:

Just because some Torgs are Teegs and some Teegs are Blargs, we don't have any forced connection between Torgs and Blargs.

I know the answer for 3. from another context, another riddle but same point. I actually figured it out by myself back then, but I shall refrain from revealing the solution here.

Well from strict logic, you don't know that. All it says is that some Torgs are Teegs, it doesn't tell you whether there are any other Teegs than those that are also Torgs. That's not saying it might not be like you say, but we don't know that from this statement.

EDIT > However, notice how the statements above don't rule out the possibility of either answer A, B and C - they just don't follow with certainty from what is written. Below is shown how option A (left) and options B and C (right) can be fulfilled within the given statement.

About nr. 7 - it's not entirely clear how much is to be taken literally in the picture. The orange colouring of the skies in the background might also imply that the sun was setting beneath (inside) the clouds, but then, that might also be artistic liberty. In the same way, the river have to take a really odd bend underneath the bridge in order to not be seen on the other side (as it isn't), but it might do that. The tree branch in the top might be connected to the main tree outside the frame - we can't really see that.

You know that the number you seek is almost dividable by all the given numbers, so you just find their common divisor (is that what it calledin English?) and subtract one. A quick check shows that the divisor is: 7*8*9*5=2520. 2520-1=2519.
