matter - the common definition is "anything that has mass and takes up space". Of course, there are more in-depth definitions.
As far as I know, 'space' is more elaborate (see quantum entanglement; or relativity) than just the plain 3 dimensions with particles as 'dots'

energy - the ability to do work or to cause change
That's not the definition of "photon" type of energy

Oh I get it, if Nazi Germany benefited and Hitler got more and more power, individual citizens benefited to have better means to be oppressed by the ruler

(replace Hitler with "some big capitalist" these days... that includes paying/bribing lawyers or judges/jury)

This "materialism" discussion is getting us off-topic. Yes, there are more complex definitions of matter and energy, but that's besides the point.

And capitalists don't oppress people. Hitler did something to people. Capitalists don't do anything to anybody. You can't be guilty of inaction, remember?

That is so naive on so many levels...

Money brings you power correct?
what is the recipe for oppression?

H****isim is where one thinks their kind is stronger based on color race, creed, agenda, whatever (Notice I didnt say species). And they deside to eliminate the -in their eyes- weaker.

There are weaknesses and strengths in trying to achieve power over for instance a group of people. Where there are other powers there to lash back at it. And are stronger in ways to try to fight down the many numbers.

By now we've gotten over comparison and accepted it into the known part of the conversation.

Think of all the weaknesses an artist has trying to keep his stuff sold and at a reasonable price dealing with taxes from one man to another, but the internet, one computer to another.

Didn't you say you were a materialist? "Predictions?" "Speculations"? Why not dreams then? What point are you trying to make?
The point is that we know that things could be better and that things could be worse. And we can thus compare ourselves to them.
You never know if anything is better or worse until you actually try it. That's why we won't ever know how things would have developed if we had had wings, for example. You can't base anything on an IF. That's just speculation and completely irrelevant.

By the way, you didn't answer what matter and energy are supposed to be?
matter - the common definition is "anything that has mass and takes up space". Of course, there are more in-depth definitions.
energy - the ability to do work or to cause change.
You base a philosophy and your view of the world on this kind of ill-defined blunder? What is "mass"? What is "space"? "Change" includes the concept of "time". So what is "time"? And it's absolutely on topic.

Quote:
Don't make me laugh. Best for whom?
Best for each individual.
That is ridiculous. You mean to tell me that the history of humanity and human society is characterized by doing what is "best for each individual"? Ok, discussion closed. You live in a world I don't know.

In a way, there are more ways to oppress people than just "plain in sight" -- but you don't consider those oppressions because they are too smart and that's exactly what they want others to think -- so they get away easier and cheaper.

Maybe you mix up "leading" with "oppressing"?

I don't call letting 12-year olds in Africa and Asia work for less than a dollar a day in sweatshops "leading".

What has this to do with the statement "everyone who earns more than 40.000$ in the states is an "oppressor""?

Technically he may not be, but most certainly he CAN be. And he can be without his knowledge (e.g: he oppresses others from starting up smaller businesses because they'll be ruled out completely -- it's like you making a small company to compete with Microsoft -- so they oppress them in such a way to do something else or get employed at Microsoft. This is the kind of "smart" oppression I was talking about, not "plain in sight").

But this wasn't the point of Mvass' post. And not mine of course. If someone earns 40.000$ (which is probably about average in the States, not sure) could just mean he/she has a leader position in his job. So he is working for his company for a long time and claimed that seat due to hard work and good work. He/She now is a leader, but not an oppressor. That was the idea behind my post "Maybe you mix up....".
