King's Bounty
King's Bounty is, as you know, the "father" of HoMM series. Its story tells abut a group of vile guys who stole Sceptre of Order from good king Maximus and now another bunch of good ones(now heroes)fight with the vile guys. As you can see, the story wouldn't win the contest, but the game itself is definatly worth a look. At the start, you must choose one of the heroes:
Barbarian is typical smash-head guy. He has the biggest "knowledge" about leading, and therefore has the biggest army. Ironically, he starts with the smallest one-just 20 Wolves. His starting gold is 7,5k gold and commision every week is 2k with additional 2k aftel every level. You get levels here by catcing villains(I'm not sure how much, though).
Knight is a more civilized barbarian, knowing a bit more about magic. His starting army is 20 peasants and 2 archers, and starting gold is 7,5k. On lvl 1 his weekly(5 days here) gold is 1k, doubling with next lvls.
Paladin is the guy with even more magic. His army at start is 20 peasants and 20 militia and starting gold is 10k. Weekly gold is the same as Knight's.
Sorceress is mistress of magic-she's the only one with spellbook at start. She's got the lowest leadership of all heroes-soldiers don't like women or what? Her starting forces are just 10 sprites and 30 peasants. King Maximus does and gives her 10k gold at start and 3k every week. After some time he stops liking her unhappily, so she gets only 1k gold more weekly every level.
Leadership works as following:for every 1hp of unit you use 1 point of leadership. Complicateful, eh?
You may get 25 units grouped into 5 "races"
From King's Castle you may get all 5 units of that race and they don't end. Those units are:
1)Militia 2Hp, 2Spd, 1-2Dmg, ?Cost
Militia is just a bit more powerful than peasants, but enough on the start.
2)Archers 10 Hp, 2Spd, 1-2Dmg,1-3Shoot 250Cost(upkeep of unit is paid every week and is 10 times less than cost)
Weak bowmen. Their only strength lies in HP, becaus 1-2 dmg is clearly not enough.
3)Pikemen 10Hp, 2Spd, 2-4Dmg, 300Cost
Quite powerful unts for the start, good in early fights. However, useless later.
4)Cavalry 20Hp, 4Spd, 3-5Dmg, 800Cost
They're fast, but die often. Good only when you don't have strong flyers.
5)Knights 35Hp, 1Spd, 5-10Dmg, 1000Cost
Slow, but powerful units. When you make a defensive army, the Knights are great choice.
I'll upload rest of the races later
EDIT:As promised, rest of the units.
Plains are wild human dwellings. From one Plain you may take limited number of forces, and one type from one Plain.
1)Peasants 1Hp, 1Spd, 1Dmg, 10Cost
The tradition started here-Peasants are all-useless units which die always. Use ONLY when you can't hire anything better.
2)Wolves 3Hp, 3Spd, 1-3Dmg, 40Cost
Better than Peasants everywhere, Wolves are good in start-fast and able to do much dmg.
3)Nomads 15Hp, 2Spd, 2-4Dmg, 300Cost
Actually they aren't way better than Wolves, and applying the 1Hp-1Lead, 300 gold isn't worth them.
4)Barbarians 40Hp, 3Spd, 1-6Dmg, 750Cost
Powerful and able to do strong dmg. Unhappily also weak one. More Hp than Knights and also able to be in a def army.
5)Archmages 25 Hp, Fly(means that an unit can fly to any point of the battle arena AND attack in same turn, but after flying 2nd time can't)
2-3Dmg, 1000Cost
Do you think Archmages are weak because of their dmg? It's indded weak, but Archmages may fire twice a battle a devastating fireball, dealing even bigger damage than Dragon's strike! That hurts!
You do everything in-game with keyboard-look at army, buy soldiers etc.
Did anyone play KB here? Do you want to say something about it? If you mean me, I've beaten it on Hard with Barbarian. Just starts were hard, after I got some gold it became quite easy.
A question to mods:should this topic be here or in the OGET? If in OGET, could you move it there?

I've made many attempts to play it (maybe you'll recognize my avatar?) But every time I do play it I either get destroyed (a book about this game would be nice, I had no idea ghosts would turn on your army) or give up, because I can never find the heroes that I'm supposed to capture.
I would play it more if I knew more about it though.
