How about another competition for M&M VI and VIII and HOMM III, IV, V lovers!
The start date will be 12th January!
Introduction
Hi guys, I am Vidoja, the mighty Lizard-man . Some of you probably remember me (by good or by not-so-good things, I don't care ). In that part of the community (the one that remembers me) must be another slice (not wanting to use "part" again ) that will say as soon as the read through this topic a little: "Oh, not again!". But leave them be, just read on....
What is this all about
Well, I'll tell ya! Are you a HMM3 fan; HMM4 fan; HMM5 fan; MM6 fan; MM8 fan? Than here is a chance to show your creativity and knowledge of the game mechanics! The competition that I am going to host (to the question "When?" you'll find the answer a bit down the topic), I would like to call "The Ultimate Might&Magic Competition" (with Might and Magic not excluding Heroes of Might and Magic, logically  ). Anyone will be able to compete!
Compete, how, what will I need to know before?
The competition will consist of 10 questions concerning each upper-stated game. You'll choose which game you want to. And, when the time comes, you'll send me your answers (more about this after).
There is also a possibility that a player wants to take two games up, but can't decide. Don't worry, you can take them both up! How? Well, each game will have 10 questions, so, your 10 questions will be 5+5 (5 from one, 5 from the other). This is considered a privilege because a player, this way, can be asked for 2x more information. But, this doesn't mean that the players who choose only one game will be, in any way, disadvantaged. Only one thing concerning this: the "double-game competitors" won't be able to choose questions randomly from 2 question pools. This means that his first question will be either 1st of the Game A or 1st of the Game B. Follow me? A player can't choose to answer first five from one and first five from the other pool of quesetions. If this isn't clear to you, write a HCM to me.
To score maximum points you'll need to meet these points fully:
For M&M (VI or VIII)
You have completed the game once (This doesn't mean I want you to do all the quests, discovered all locations nor killed all monsters, just to complete the main storyline, but if you did the things stated before, better for you)
You have been doing a bit of searching around the internet concerning the particular part of M&M.
For HM&M (III, IV, V - divided into two parts: Core+HoF and TotE)
You have completed the campaign (more than 50% of it) and some other maps. You have a good experience of situations. You have been doing a bit of searching around the internet concerning the particular part of HM&M.
Note 1: No multiplayer knowledge is necessary.
Note 2: Heroes III and IV do not require any expansions because I deem them minor in importance.
What can I choose from again?
A:Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Haven
B:Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
C:Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer
D:Heroes of Might and Magic III
E:Heroes of Might and Magic IV
F:Heroes of Might and Magic V + Hammers of Faith
G:Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East
When?
You do not have to do anything in advance! Expect the questions to be posted in the 2nd week of the New Year (for the little less informed:2009). I will notify you in an orderly manner one week before on small technical details.
Where am I going to find the questions? Where am I going to send the answers?
The questions will be posted in another topic where I will submit the results also (This is just like a discussion topic). They'll probably be posted at the 2nd week of the New Year, as I said before. DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN ANY OF THE TOPICS! You'll either HCM me or send your message to heroescommunity.
I can't remember numbers and/or names (words)
You won't need to! No numbers are required. And for names, I will not ask you like "Who was the Seers uncle?". You have to know elementary and some a little advanced names but know "second-cousin thrice removed" and all that.
Cheating
Well, don't cheat! This means that you shouldn't go round the net searching for the answers (I doubt you'll find them, but still) nor looking in the game for details. I can detect cheaters, so please, lets have a fair competition.
Points, places and rounds
Each question will be worth 10 pts. This means that you are eligible to get 1, 2, 3, ... 10 pts. The system all or nothing isn't applied while checking. When we put all the players in a list, some 30% of players will be invited to the second round (this is only a suspected percentage, not promising anything(=possibly more players)). We will declare the winner, the one with the maximum points.
Categories
There will be no categories. I will do my best that the questions have the same difficulty. You compete all together!
Staff
If you have some knowledge in at least 50% of the games stated above, if you are willing to help me check the tests and count down points and such, than you're mine man! You can send me a HCM if you have what it takes and more importantly are willing to work. Than again, I think I am capable of doing this myself, but help would be really appreciated.
Prizes
I'm afraid I can't promise anything RW, but I hope that kooka, as always, will give our QPs.
Correlation with the previous competitions of mine
Probably slim!

Antipaladin is going to be my helper. So, he made up questions for Might and Magic 7, which means that it is also going to be an eligible category to compete in. He is also going to help with the evaluating of tests, like another person to be there in the name of the competitors (this will bring more objectivity to the competition).

I could join for Heroes 5 but is it really necessary to have played the campaign? Because I did not. (except from "cheating" to see the characters, I didn't play the campaigns)

But are you confident that you know all that a player of Heroes V ought to know from single player (creatures, towns, locations on the map etc.)?

This is for what I intended this competition: not just to compete in the Heroes V (as usual) but to give those older game fans a chance to show themselves as I know we have theirs fans on this forum as well. I remember Antipaladin stating that he is a great M&M fan, but I wonder if he's still around .... Anyway, you do not need to reserve your place or sign up... anyone willing to participate when the time comes will be able to do so. Nevertheless, I would like to see your opinions, proposals, thoughts on this idea of mine.

Yes, a bit on that.... I suppose you didn't understand, you can only choose 2 question pools but not more AND on the circumstances that I announced earlier. That way, you can't just choose the questions that you know from one part of the game and ones from another part of the game, but you must concentrate to all the aspects of one game.

And, once again to note, the questions will be made to be creative, not test-like like in my previous competition. But, this isn't a creativity contest. You are required to show that you have completed the game once and really enjoyed it (since you wouldn't play anything you don't like). Anyone interested to help me out in HOMM questions, because I am afraid even to start covering them...

So you have played some of these games for a while? You should choose which of the stated games you like, and answer the questions for that game which I will post (and than the competition will officially start) some 2nd week of the new year. These questions will be game-related and the results will show how good you are at the particular game. The reason for which I haven't made a only HOMMV or only MMVI competition is that too few players would have participated. This way, any competitor may choose one game (or maybe two, as instructed above) to compete in (you'll answer 10 questions regarding the game or 5+5 if you have chosen two games). Feel free to ask any further questions...

I have been busy with MTG recently, so I didn't make any new questions. I am starting today. So, just to announce once more, the 2nd week of the New Year will mark the beginning of the competition, and everyone who's interested can, when they see the questions posted in a new topic (in the same subforum) send their answers to me via HCM or Email. Cya

For all that are interested, you will be able to prove your knowledge and experience of the M&M series and/or HOM&M series, the date on which this competition is going to start is 12th January. I will accept your answers for a three-day period (12th January-14th January) and I will probably have the results of round 1 on 8th January. For all who would like to know more, read the upper first post.
