Poll Question:
More Board Styles
Hi, I was wondering what if HC had more skins (or board styles, you know) like in CH? For example I like a black background more than a white one so I'd choose a dark skin (like Dungeon over at the Round Table). The biggest problem I see with this is the amount of work needed for implementation. I have no experience regarding this (how to make more styles for a community board) but I guess it is pretty hard, seeing as not many forums have lots of skins.
Ok first please say if you would like such a feature in the first place (this means you ignore all the possible work included, like it's done instantly). Why would you like such a feature or not? Is it a stupid idea or not? (remember, without taking the amount of work involved yet)
Then you can go on with arguments regarding the amount of work needed as well...

Too much work. Unless someone volunteers. it is a good idea, but if you truly want it, try to make some art  (although I admit, you have no idea what 'format', as in size/etc (not digital file format), to use unfortunately)

Good idea but it will require too much work. Plus, it might make the site a little slower to load.

I think she means an entirely different style. A template if you will, to change the way it looks. Colours is a slight template change but I think Asheera's idea goes more along the lines of the member being able to 'choose' to have one template or another template, instead of every member using the same one (which might grow a bit boring after a while)

Something like the Glade, yes, but more changes than what it has.
Also William, I don't think it will slow down the loading times since you'll load only one skin and not all of them. I could be wrong, but if you have (analogy) a hard disk filled with 100 GB it won't be slower than one with 10 GB, right?

If you have more on the site then yes it would load slower since it has to process that information (the template changing option plus other things that might not be visible). Everything that is on the site will make it slower, not noticeably slower but it's still slower nonetheless.
Conservative side: Plus, what exactly is wrong with the HC theme we have always had?

Yes it will be if they are not in RAM, because it caches the files in RAM -- next time you access them, if they're read-only (and not modified) they are read directly from RAM.

You can instead give every member a custom font and colour 
or at least the mods
(I really wanna see MM write in pink lol)

Nah, that could be abused really easily IMO. People might try to write in colours which are bad on the eyes or conflict with the background colour.

Why should I? Because my whole system is gray and most pages are dark.
I say make the current "grey" background black, and the white grey, and it's fixed

And what about the font colour? On the black parts it won't be visible (unless you change the font colour to white) but then on the grey section, the white font might be a bit of an eye sore.

Perhaps, or perhaps (if it were implemented) you'd like another one more. You can't be sure now, it's like saying: "I like my experiences on the PC now, it's perfect!", when you don't have Internet, and after you get online you say: "Wow, this is a lot more awesome than before!"

I like the idea and could provide some help setting it up in terms of arts and graphic support, given I know in what formats they should be. I've done something similar earlier but on a small scale. So if the lack of time (possibly ideas) is the problem I can help out

what HC needs is a more... up to date script
there are two problems with that though
1. its a lot of work to get things set as they are now
2. val has done too much work on this script to change it
since that is not an option... yeah, sure, themes... woot
