Binabik, I understand what you mean but I don't think you got it what it meant in where it is heading... it isn't about comfort or progress. Think of emo trend and depression. It's true that we could have better lives, but playing WoW all day, even though 50 years before it was impossible (no computer), isn't exactly what I would call improvement or heading in a good direction for example, especially if you cannot live without it, or if you forget to go to the bath and die from it. Same for other things.
The internet is large but I met so many people with twisted ideas or articles saying stuff about recent trends or whatever, over my time on it I wouldn't exactly say that we are heading in a "right direction". (think of kiddos trolls who are 50 years or above for goodness' sake). I don't call it good for people to NEED to play WoW and suicide otherwise! (disclaimer: not saying WoW is bad as a game in itself, but I'm merely not pointing out the comfort/progress but the MENTALITY which is degenerating)
On the other hand there are also the actual capitalists who usually try to hide bad stuff from your eyes/experience and exploit those who are very extreme (like the maniac WoW players, for example). A somewhat twisted example would be the Matrix: is it a 'good' world because we feel good in that virtual reality, while in reality we are just assimilated by the machines? Is that a 'better' world? Just wondering what your opinion on this is.
