The Third Imperium - OoC
A sci-fi rpg sort-of-based on the Traveller setting...
The basic idea is that an ancient, advanced alien civilization - the Ancients - found some primitive humans, took genetic samples, and placed human populations all throughout space on many habitable planets. Some were genetically modified by the Ancients, but most evolved on their own into distinct human subspecies. When Terran (Earth) Humans started really exploring deep into space, they unexpectedly found an enormous empire of humans called the Vilani Imperium. The Terrans - with help from rebellious Imperial subject races - defeated the Vilani and set up their own empire, about the same size (as you may have guessed, the Terran Imperium). After an Imperium-wide apocalyptic event, a group of planets near galactic center allied to become the Sylrean Confederation. After reuniting most of the former Imperial territories under its rule, the Sylrean Confederation changed its name to the Third Imperium. The current emperor is Emperor Strephon XVI (the Sixteenth).
There is no faster-than-light travel in this setting. It takes many weeks to get from the outer provinces to the Imperial capital. Because of this, each planet is essentially independant and self-governing, except for a few rules it must follow (pay taxes to the Emperor, donate soldiers, etc.)
There are no true 'aliens' in this setting, but some of the humans have extreme genetic modification or evolution.

OK, good.
Now we need about 2-3 more people, at least, and we can get this game going 
EDIT: The above sentence is overly optimistic. I guess this rpg will never have an IC thread of its own...
