Here we see why I am not that much into WoG as of yet.

I really forgot about the fact ALL creatures of the same type on the whole map get improved when visiting any emerald tower or the sorcery school. I still thought only those who are in the army of the hero which visits these special buildings get improved. That's why I do not have much damage improvement on my ladies

I have 1 hero on a merket place of course, but none near any emerald tower to improve my ladies.

Now you know why my fights are a bit harder than yours, coz I think my ladies have a damage around 30 currently, instead of probably 100 if played correctly...

And I have 6 special abilities so far, so still 2 more slots to fill. I have summon enchanters, clone, no distance penalty, aging, immunity to all magic except beneficial and chance to deflect 75% of damage as special abilities so far.

And the reason why I have the God in my army is the reducing mano costs. I don#t know the map and therefore don't know how often I will have tough fights wit tons of resurrections, and on the other hand I do not know how many wells and/or towns you have placed to be able to replenish my spellpoints.

But I don't know why you think it slows you down? God has speed 22, the ladies 23. Maximum relevant speed is 11. Why does it slow me down then?

Ah, simply I forgot that I gave him + speed in the last version. Originally he had 4 so I had the habit to let him outside. You are right.

Yes, there are some WoG features which may be required to be known before playing. Anyway I guess it is more interesting to learn WoG on a custom map (which has been tested hundred of times) than on a random, where we may not understand very well how the new features are working.

I am afraid that with only 30 damage you will be screwed, but we may never know. If you did it until now with 30 then it is already very good. Fights are faster with more damage but the strategies to succeed are the same, because when you get hit, you die, whatever damage you have. The sorceresses are very fragile and they can't stand in a melee attack.

The map coming, 300, will require very few knowledge of WoG tricks, and more like SoD for the fights. And internal build difficulty levels will allow to be accessible to anyone, WoG skilled or not.

ToP is the most WoG directed map I have done, if you want less tricky features but more action, then TEW III is for that. But there are no ladies in it.

I found the God of magic very usefull too and used him always. He can block paths, absorb damage and of course mana reducing is a bless. And also the increase in power it gives each week. Normally you can easily still achieve a very good damage for final fights if you send heroes now to the emerald towers. You can visit 2 or 3 of them by week since you didn't spend the ressources yet. In most fights there are ways to profit from terrain obstacles. I think you are doing pretty well for now. In the hard version I think I had only +- 300 damage and no clone sorceress (only enchanters) but I played differently and still managed to win the last fights. in previous version I had +- 6500 damage and it was a breeze . So you choose your difficulty

I have spent 1 time 100 resources each for expert earth though.
But how can you reach 6500 damage?? You get +5 damage each week for each tower. You had that much heroes running around? I have 3 currently. Main, market, and 1 in the conflux. That's it.

First time I didn't sacrifice Christian in the beginning, he could trade and visit emerald towers at the same time. Damage increases in the next levels (+3, +5, etc) it comes very quick in the end . Second time I had to adapt my sorceress since the last fight is much harder...

In fact you can even kill Apocalypse if you really want ...

Where are you now? Meet Pyre? Killed the herectics?

I killed the guy who had legions of Tower creatures (astral?) and had no skill mastered (hin hint hint ). I grabbed the catapult and now took the spellscroll "Force field". Back in the region where I had to kill Tamika.

But maybe I will load an earlier save to raise my damage with my other heroes....will decide at home later...

I don't understand who didn't have skill mastered? Astral or Morgane? Morgane doesn't really need the magic skills at expert or even advanced, I put myself the condition in the 2nd game to have all skills to expert to force me to use the ressources for that instead of the emerald towers . Tazar will be the biggest challenge before the end but i'll let you discover it in time .

That was a hint from a single sorceress on the map right in front of Astral "He has all magic skills but didn't master any". Which I took as a hint where to place my main (many different terrains there) so Astral won't get mass haste or mass cure/dispel. That's why I placed my main on "expert earth" ground.

Ah ok, I forgot that . I simply attacked him there in his spot, no matter what magic he had he didn't last long

edit : progression of damage : 19 - 22- 26 - 31- 37 - 45 - 55 - 67 - 82 - 101 - 125 - 155 - 192 - 238 - 296 - 368 - 458 - 571 - 712 - 888

so you need 16 visits to achieve 888 damage, less if you don't need that much

This is what you don't know if you have never played the map. During this journey, I recognized sometimes walls felt down due to events or by grabbing artefatcs. This mostly happened around this conflux town. So I thought this will happen again and I want a hero nearby to check this new path.

I also saw the message "There is no way back" when going through a monolith, so I didn't want to make this hero a follow up guy for my main, coz I can't tell ya how often (and sometimes in this map too), I stopped playing a custom made map because of those "surprise attacks" by event which killed my follow up guys coz they just wanted to explore/scout the region a bit and save movement for the main.

So I got the idea those additional heroes have their job until they either get sacrified due to an event (in front of those arenas for example) or until they have opened a quest guard.

About the idea to NOT sacrify them but use them as collectors:
I also have played H3 maps, where my main had to reach a specific amount of a specific primary skill ("Reach 75 knowledge to open the boarder") to be able to procede.
So I was sure Morgane HAS TO visit these arenas to reach a specific attack skill.

It really seems this map should be played 2 times at least. When you know what you have to be aware of, it is much easier to play. It would be kind of frustrating to play a map for 8 or 9 months, just to recognize you can't win it because you made some faults in month 2 and 3...

I fully agree with you. But here is the eternal dilemma: if we do scenarios where you are given the chance to correct "wrong" moves, then there is no replayability option. Myself I like restarting a map when I have more infos about it. Another point is that you started WoG a short time ago, and your "wrong" usage of the hero was mainly due to lack of infos about how Towers are working. But there is no way to learn something new other than trying on the field. Just imagine now, that you know how they are working, what a butcher you will be when starting again.
It took me one year to understand how WoG works and what can be done with it. Give it a chance, as it has no limits if well done.

The main difference with SoD is that the options for developing your main or your creatures are more sophisticated. So, while in SoD you can't go "wrong", because you always have same options (attack, defense, skill, recruit from dwellings what you get each week), here there are more subtle bonuses  which may reveal wrong later.

If you have any question regarding any feature/object, just ask. Usually there is a hint given when things are going out from normal usage, but sometimes the normal usage is misunderstood too.

I hope you didn't get the wrong picture Salamandre!
I love this map and will for sure play it till the end and then start again from the very beginning!

And yes, there are still many features of WoG I am not aware of. Mostly because I played around 100 wogified random maps based on my own created RMG the last weeks, which I made for the user Coldshadow (Coldshadow's fanatasies). This is a template full of treasuries and strong AI players, so it is really fun to play. But on randoms, you still miss many map objects (like the Titan's Cave for example).

And it also takes some time to realize a burned down city is just an opitical illusion, coz it works as a crystal mine

Indeed. The titan cave is created by me, so it can't be found in other maps (or random) and the crystal mine is still there, but behind the burned city. If you remove the city object in the editor, you will recognize our old loved graphic of a crystal mine under it. I choose this because the layout around Gomorrah did not allow me to place mountains, and then the mine just looked weird getting out from nowhere.

First I was a fan of changing objects look, but now playing with toys is over. I mocked of myself in TOP when changed the monsters look:
"Someone is playing with stupid toys"

The bios of both heroes near Gomorrah:

"Valeska, the third mage can be used to check huts, resources, visit School of sorcery or Emerald tower. Do not lose her."

"Sylvia can be used to keep the market"

But I forgot to add "visit towers each week", as I thought it was obvious. I remember having the same problem with towers when I started WoG. I was sure it affects only the army of the visiting hero.

That's why you are given a big hint in the first fight (Skorpion) about what forces you will face in the end. The emerald towers will affect the Skorpion sorceresses as well and must be keep in mind while giving bonuses.

We can also see with Cyra that the other soreceress are affected by the bonuses , ....and later we'll have another similar (harder) fight . The problem with the Scorpion King fight is that we can hardly see the stats of units before being obliterated . I think he recevives 2 or 3 moral bonuses in this fight. We can only guess

As I stated in another thread some time ago, I hate reading tons of stuff when playing a map. I don't want a book, I want a game

That's why I never read any bios of any heroes. If this would be written on a sign for example, I may have checked and realized earlier.

If I start a map, and on the very first day, I have to read about 10 boxes of messages, you can be sure I just click them away.

But that's just me.
