| Here are some pictures from last weekend. Graduation from high school!
This one's a possible thank you card picture.

This is from the actual graduation.

I just had to post this one. Don't really know why. I just felt like it.

Now I'm all free till January when I'm going to the army.
 Vacation!

I'm thinking about cycling from here to Kilpisjärvi. That would make about 2500km and take about two weeks I think.

In my case that will most likely be a full year and officer training.
With rangers that will be hard time.

| Well maybe being in war kinda lenghtens your service.
But seriously at least you don't have to freeze in your service.

I might be having a day walking in full combat gear in -30 degrees after that dig snow for 2 hours and build camp for 1 hour then sit on watch for 1 hour, sleep 4 hours and repeat every day for a week or two.

Then again I won't probably get shot at.

Does +40 degrees in full combat gear for 7 months of the year sound better to you?

| Finland has "national service" and "common country defense duty" laws.
That means that every Finn is responsible for doing their part for Finnland when needed, meaning that all men between 18 and 30 years must either go to the army (6-12 months, ground, navy, air force) or do civilservice(11 months, hospitals etc.). If they refuse they'll be spending a year in jail. In times of peace this does not concern Jehowah's witnesses and some other religious minorities. Women can also go to the army if they so choose.

Pretty interesting Jonas.I always thought that going to the army was necessery only in other countries with different geographical/geopolitical situations.Like Serbia for example or Turkey or Greece.
I say it's interesting bc here in Greece we complain about going in the army and we always make comparisons with countries like Belgium that we think have no obligated army.

In my opinion Finland has not many reasons to have such army, for geopolitical reasons. But you can never say it for sure. You know better than all of us, Finland's position in WW2 when Finland was at war with both axis and Soviets.Finland prefer to fight both great powers than gave it's grounds to one.Pretty heroic, even more for a not military country.

First of all Finland was allied with Germany in WW2 and we only attacked our borthers in arms because Stalin decided they were retreating from Lappland too slow after Finland made peace with Soviet Union. For more information check your IM or look here. Wikipedia's english article is a little off in some ways but not much.

As for national sevice it's cheaper than paid army plus it creates a strong spirit for defese, not that it would need much strengthening in case of Finland.
In current situation most countries wouldn't have any use for their armies but you newer know what future brings. As for geopolitical situation last time I checked we still had Eu's longest border with Russia.
Oh and at the time of WW2 Finland was a third world country. If you check the forces in Winter war, Continuation war and Lappland war you can get the real definition of heroic.

 Good pictures GL
