I like to hear everything loud so I can better pick out any mistakes or whatever and there's also the fact that when I have it up loud, then there's no way of getting distracted (which helps ).

William, that's so naive! Do you know how many studies have connected loud music to hearing loss?  The damage is cumulative and irreversable, so that by the time you can notice it, it's too late.  I read some study recently that showed more and more people are losing their hearing earlier and earlier because of heavy earbud use (I wish I could remember where so I could link to it).

Just google music and "hearing loss" and you'll find countless other links.

Example: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/13/technology/13noise.html

Seriously, my friend, it's no joke.  It's easy to think you're invincible when you're young.  If you like music and want to make a career of it, you owe it to yourself to protect your greatest asset.  I'm not trying to be preachy; just think about it.

lol... I imagine you doing all the "safety" things on your common life... I mean I'm sure you wear knee pad - Because is a fact not a myth that simply walk will eventually damage your knees, I don't know where do you live... but in almost every civilized city on the world you are exposed to loud noises all the day, traffic, workers, construction sites etc, so I guess you use your ears plugs when you go everywhere... lol im suprised that you reath... because you know... breath oxidizes your booty and that's a FACT...

of course you decide what you want to do... and I guess the problem here is not that you don't like "loud" concerts... the problem are your arguments ,  if you take advices from other people... why don't you take it from us???  the rock&roll is a sport, practice it!!

Yes I do usually take "safety" measures, and I'm pretty sure you consider it cool or macho to have support for "bleh, I'm too cool for that safety crap."

How about you ask those who got hurt by it, or in the matter at hand, who lost their hearing? Remember this: they were like you once.

There's a difference between doing things that involve normal wear and tear on your body and doing things intentionally that are known to be harmful because you're "too cool" to protect yourself.

Let me ask you this - do you wear sunscreen when you're at the pool?  Or is that something you just consider to be a stupid - what was the word you used? - "savety" thing?  Yeah, I know - I should just live my life and not worry about ultraviolet radiation.  After all, cancer is cool, right?

Do what you want; I don't really care.  You get one body.  If you think using a little intelligent precaution to prevent unnecessary damage to it is a waste of time, that's not my problem.

Oh okay, I didn't think it was obvious because down here if you kinda say "lost" it doesn't mean just partially, it means totally, unless you say "partially lost", you know?

just to be clear my message was for thedeath not for corribus, sorry for my english... I usally mix a lot of words... and sometimes is hard to express on a forean lenguage that I never studied

anyway, I don't feel like a "macho" for going to a concert because is too loud... I just think the benefit is a lot more than a small earing damage  for a 2 hours concert every  3  o 4 months... and I'm sure that if I go to 3 or for concert on 1 year that will not damage my hear... the damage comes when you are exposed to the high level of sound for months maybe years...

Is like when you live in a big city... you breath toxic air every day you eventually get repiratory dissease, but you can decide to move to another city if you want to avoid the pollution... but most of the people decide to stay there why?? they just decided that the benefit is more that the damage, I'm sure they are not thinking "I'm a macho man because I breath pollution" and I'm sure the pollution on a big city is a lot way worse than a 2 hour concert every 3  or 4 months...

What good thing can I get from a concert???

for me and for a lot o people on the concerts is all about the excitation and happyness that the event itself provocate... is like having sex in many ways... because you get excited and all your muscles and bones are exercised, the body generates endorfin, you fell great... is like taking drugs without all the bad effects... if the concerts were that BAD, they would have disappeared for a long time, for law, how can you explain that so many people wants to go to concerts???

same reason that some people "are too cool for safety measures". Until life kicks their ass of course, but unfortunately it doesn't happen to all. I said "unfortunately" because those people will then boast about it (that they got away with it) and induce others in error.

Because people who are cool also enjoy boasting around being cool (this concert thing, of course, is NOT being cool, but also enjoyment; although some do boast about it).

And because I can't think how someone can enjoy when he damages himself.

@LC

Well let me be clear as well: I'm not trying to say you shouldn't enjoy yourself every now and then.  You've got to live, after all.  If going to a concert is something you enjoy, you should do it.    Saturated fats lead to heart disease, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying a grilled ribeye every now and then.

On the flip-side, though, I know that I shouldn't be eating a 16 ounce steak every day.  Telling myself that I'm uniquely able to do this because I don't have any symptoms of heart disease NOW is just (sorry) idiotic.  I may not have problems now, but bad habits will lead to extremely harmful conditions in the long run.  So as much as I'd love to eat a burger and fries or pizza for every meal, I recognize that making some sacrifices to protect myself now will pay many dividends down the road.  I mean, I hate excercizing, but I do it, because I know it's important if I want to be alive and healthy 30, 40 years from now.

My advice was to protect your hearing by not listening to loud music all the time.  I think a lot of people don't realize how damaging constant exposure to loud sounds can be for their permanent hearing, and it'd be a shame, if music is something you really love, to lose 20% of your high range before you turn 30.  If you've got a passion and talent for music, I would think you'd want to do what you can to protect it so you can be enjoying music for your whole life.

Anyway, I've said to much about something silly.  It was just a piece of advice.  I'm not forcing anyone to take it.

People don't go to concerts because it makes them cool. They go because it's fun.

Cool people are naturally cool. An uncool person who does things to try to be cool is far more uncool than a naturally cool person. Half the time an uncool person tries to be cool they just look like a dork. But if a dork knows they are a dork and tries to be the best damn dork they can be, well, at least that's partly cool. And they might even get laid by the dorkgirl. Hey, dorkgirl is horney too.

From Wikipedia:

A few individuals view recreation as largely non-productive, even trivial. Excessive recreation is not considered healthy, and may be labeled as escapism. However, research has shown that recreation contributes to satisfaction, and that the stress management aspects of it contribute to quality of life, health and wellness, happiness, and that the use of recreation as a diversion may have clinical applications to individuals with chronic pain and other health impairments.

Wow, talk about stating the obvious....

If there's a band you really like and have a chance to go, I'd say go for it. Bands break up and musicians have a tendency to die young. It might be the only chance you get and you might regret it if you don't go.

Rick Wright from Pink Floyd died so I've lost the chance to see them, even with a replacement it just won't be the same. If I could turn back the clock and see them, I'd do it even if I lost a little of my hearing.

You gotta live your life, and living in a sterile bubble isn't living for most people. (but if that's your thing, fine) Yea, concerts can get loud, far too loud. You just have to use some common sense. Going to loud concerts every week is not the same as going to one 3-4 times a year. The loudest concert I've been to was Jethro Tull. But I've been to movies that were louder. I walked out of the theatre two movies ago because it was so loud I was actually in pain.

Best concerts?

I already mentioned Jethro Tull who always put on a good concert (saw them twice).

David Bowie also comes to mind.

Allman Brothers, they played for 4-1/2 hours.

Bob Seger - the night before someone I dearly loved moved away, it was the last time I saw her and 30 years later I still think I should have married her

The Turtles - free concert in the park, years after their peak so very nostalgic music and great performance

Robin Trower - small venue, great sound, but not enough weed being passed around

Ozark Mountain Daredevils - small venue, great sounds, lots of weed being passed around - dropped some *cough cough* and thought I was the pilot of an airplane and all the people at the concert were passengers....the last song was If You Want to Get to Heaven You Got to Raise a Little Hell.....when they turned the lights on I thought I had flown the plane to heaven and all the smoke was clouds

Ten Years After - One of my favorite bands

Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris  - Willie is the country boy hippie, half the audience were hippies and the other half were country rednecks - interesting interaction between the dopers and whiskey drinkers (they gave us dirty looks and some of them actually moved seats when we lit up)

Worst concert - definitely Bob Dylan, don't know why, it was just boring and had poor sound

Would most liked to have seen before they died:

Johnny Cash
Pink Floyd
Grateful Dead
John Lennon - the working class hero -  has it really been 30 years since he was killed? I still miss him, RIP John.

Yes I like it to be loud in a movie theater also, but there's a limit.  The last one or two I went to were bordering on too loud to listen to.

Saw him this February with Jack Bruce. Jack sang better than I had expected, a lot better, in fact. Still, too much Jack Bruce and not enough Robin Trower, that one. Anyway, remarkable guitar work, of course, and since I like small locations for concerts it was a good one.

I heard he was touring with Jack Bruce. Is Bruce doing the singing now? I only know Jack Bruce from Cream. Was he the singer on Spoonful? If so, he has a decent voice.

Spoonfull Man, talk about garage band sound.

A friend wanted me to go to the Cream reunion concert in New York and I didn't go. After seeing the concert on TV I REALLY wish that I had gone. What really surprised me was how much energy Ginger Baker had at his age.

Bruce always did the singing, for Cream as well.
They played a decent White Room there as last piece before the encore, if I remember right. Trower made sure to meticulously playing it the Clapton way, studio version, taling care not to try to surpass Clapton, but faithfully recreating things.
Cream worked well, in their time and for the limited stuff they did, but if I compare pure Bruce with pure Trower, then I'd say that Trower simply has a lot more remarkable songs. They did two albums together, Bruce/Trower, and while those are pretty decent, I like pure Trower better.
Still, with Trower being exceptional and Bruce really being at a remarkably good voice (his Bass play was always pretty good anyway), even though he looked like Keith Richard's older brother, it was pretty enjoyable.
