Not only did the USA give to the Brits, but also to the Russians.

Now, maybe i'm not up to speed with my history, but i don't recall any piece of american land that was given away. On the other hand i can name a few provinces of way much older countries given away by the americans(with the approvall of the british, of course) to the russians. And, remind me again, why did the US become involved in WWII? Maybe because it's economical interests were jeperdized by the germans...? I could hardly call that selfless inolvment. Before you start praising yourself as the greatest nation alive, think about how you came to be the greatest(?) military power in the world. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saing that there are no good sides to the US, but i think we should see both sides of the coin.

At least I can answer this one.

[quoteAnd, remind me again, why did the US become involved in WWII? Maybe because it's economical interests were jeperdized by the germans...?

According to a history class I took...3 years ago (has it been that long since I was in high school? Sheesh...), the US declared war on Germany after Germany declared war two days before.  This happened immediately after Pearl Harbor, so it was probably something like a diplomatic sign of solidarity among the Axis or something.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, Gootch.

The axis powers had signed a treaty that meant if any of them were attacked then the others had to join in.

I am aware of the lend/lease policy of the american government during the second world war.  Someone had to take all of the british empires money in exchange for goods  What shows america up in a better light is their behaviour after the war when they poured enough money into western europe to junpstart an economy that was in severe recession.  They also offered to do the same for the eastern europian countries but stalin refused.

I am also aware of the massive benefits america made from the war particularly technologically.  Britain sent america a jet engine for you to play with, it was given to GEC I believe.  The jet engine having been conceived simultaneously by Frank Whittle an RAF engineer and some German dude whos name elludes me.  Also British and American scientists agreed to share all their data on supersonic flight and once the British info had been received and judged most useful the American government slapped big confidential stickers all over their work and refused to share.  Gee, those Americans were all heart.

Conn, I'm going to make believe for a minute that I didn't just read your post.  Okay, you have been seriously misinformed.  Germany declared war upon us after we declared war upon Japan.  So naturally, we declared war upon Germany.  As for America's economic interests being threatened, you're only half right.  Our interests were definitely threatened; interests such as freedom, democracy, baseball, apple pie, and the american way.  As for solidarity, the Japanese would have done better to invade Russia with their 600,000 strong in Kwangtung instead of attacking America.  Instead they secretly signed a neutrality pact with the Russians, allowing Stalin to free up an unbelieveable amount of planes and armor against the Germans.
KingDylan, your point is?

...as it always was, America didn't win the second world war for us they helped win it because it was in their own self interest.

Wrong!!  Was it self-interest for us to lose 300,000 on the field of battle for you guys?  Hmm???  You seem to forget the strong isolationist streak that America had during that time.  My countrymen felt, rightly so, that Europe's problems were not our own.  Only in retrospect can you say it was in our best interests because of what we found out about Germany's atomic research.  At the time, we were liberating the world of facist tyranny.

Don't you just hate facist tyranny why can't people leave faces out of this?  : )  (only joking)

The self interest I was referring to was the preservation of lucrative markets.  The president was indeed in favour of joining on moral grounds but I believe the American people wanted nothing to do with the war and it was only Japans attack that swayed public oppinion.
I've lost myself somewhere in here but I'll carry on for a bit anyway.
A couple of interesting things I've read about Pearl Harbour are:
1)  All of Americas aircraft carriers were, unprecedently, on manouevres many miles away and so were unharmed in the attack.
2)  When the Japanese bombers were first identified, on their way to bomb Pearl Harbour, A dispatch rider was sent to warn them rather than using the telephone, I believe he saw the planes passing overhead when he was on his way.

Draw your own conclusions, personally I like conspiracy theories.

I believe that USA wanted to go into war also to stopped the communism comming from Russia. I know also that there was some secret plan - which never succeeded between some high GERMANY officers and USA to remove HItler's regime, and then continue fight against RUSSIA - Agaist Stalin - against communism.

Also if you don't take place in such big thing as World War II - you'll never get the "goods".

It's still unclear whether Roosovelt knew about Pearl Harbor - as like with Bin Laden - USA is waiting for someone to hurt her, then to start. It's like a gentlemen who don't punches first (when comes to big enemies) - he waits, takes the punch - and then goes ultra! And eventually kills his enemy. That's very good strategy to make your people believe that you had right to do so.

NOW BACK to original TOPIC!

How the hell we know if the NEW YEAR will be HAPPY - it just started, right?

We can only extrapolate what happpened last year - and it was something like WAR that is.

So either you are humorizing us, or you are just making typo's
