Forum RPG contest
The 1st 2nd annual RPG Contest is about to begin. It only has one round, at the end of which it will be judged by yours truely volunteers or me, if no one volunteers. I will accept one other judgeI accept an infinite amount of judges, but if nobody wants the job, that is NOT fine. My score (and possibly one other judge) will be averaged out with a Poll of the entries.
Entries and the minimum requirements.
What it needs:
A title (of course).
A description of the game.
Preferably a goal, but not obligatory
Rules, if any.
Type of characters, races, or other things that will be accepted as a playable character.
Freeform, GM/DM controlled, or some mix?
Description of the world it's based in...if any.
Any other information the creator would like to pass on.
IF it is not your own creation, rpg's that already exsist can be nominated for this, providing their creators agree. However, new ideas will be scored higher by me then ones that exsists. Edit: (Needless to say, any of the judges rpgs will be not considered AT ALL).
Edit: You do not have to post that you are in. Post your rpg entry (or entries). Anybody can be entered who likes. Deadline is July 15th. Have fun.
EDIT by Dagoth (all the crossed out things and fat letters are also edited by me): if you're going to include complex stats business that would make it very hard to play on a forum, then I want a list of skills, the way the damage would be calculated, a beastiary and a way to make sure that the flow isn't broken everytime damage calculation needs to be done.

REVENGE! PAYBACK TIME!
This time I will make an Ashan RPG with races such as Wood Elves and Dwarves. Ashan is really a perfect setting for a site like this and the world itself isnt huge.
Is this the same one that Asheera won (duh) like a year back? I was second place and you last (third).
But then it was more like you created a RPG game, such as Fable. Meh, I guess I can do both stuff even if im not into forum rpgs. The Warcraft one sounded interesting but it died.

EDIT: yes, this was the one like last year and YOU were the one who developped fable-like skill trees. Mytical will probably take this over (or not). Thing is: last time you two created computer games, while I created, you know, a forum RPG, like it says right there in the flipping title. And I just want to know how you guys would do that in practice, because, yeah, battles become fair, but every turn would be agony to figure out.

Hey who wants to set up a collaboration of ideas to assist with the grand make up of this RPG?
Let me know here or in HCM, there would be some initial things to decide on like setting and things like this.
I think combined efforts will serve useful.
Even by death itself!!!
(edit: jk about the death part, but seriously I have some great ideas for this! )
(besides no matter what I come up with it wont get attention compared to what anyone else comes up with

Valiant Hero of Migght and Magic
Ten years have passed since the demon sovereign Kha-beleth entered Ashan from the underground demonic prison known as Sheogh.
The outer barriers of Sheogh has been opened, and in ten years Ashan has become a dangerous and dark world.
After Order had been in Ashan for some many years, Chaos was bound to return.
The Wood Elves have managed to defend Irollan against the demonic invaders. The Wood Elves are now stuck in a political debate discussing if they are to stay in Irollan and watch the rest of the world die, or particate in a war that already seems to have got a conclusion of doom. Already, they seem to have be forced into war as the sinister Dark Elves are infilitrating their woods.
The Unicorn Empire has almost been devastated by demons. Many humans have now fled to the Free Cities. The small mountain-nation serves as a refuge for the last humans in a doomed world.
The brave humans are desperate to find a way to stop the invasion, but the Free Cities are threatened but the increasing number of Orcs in the Far East, at the Plains of Ranaar.
The Dwarf of Grimheim live both under and over the mountains. The Lower Kingdom has been forced to evacuate high above the mountains. The dwarven Kingdom is splitted between the clans and its hard to say if they will survive the Demons marching upwards the mountains when they are divided.
After Queen Isabells War, the Silver Cities became the strongest nation of the Union between the races of Ashan.
The Silver Cities were quick to race a barrier around their nation when the Demons emerged and Archmage of the Sixth Circle Zehir tried to repell the invasion. But he failed. Zehir fell from Fireball in his back, by one of his own. Now the barriers around the Silver Cities have faded away and the nation is vurnuble to the outside world. New lords seek to reign over the Silver Cities. Dark lords from Heresh. In honor of Zehir, they have renamed themself the Zehirai.
The Dark Elves tried to stay away from the war, but they couldnt escape their fate. In a grand conspiraction, the reborn Soulscar Clan took full control over Ygg-Chall.
And in another turn of events, the Demons released the Faceless, once servants of Malasa. The Dark Elves are now slaves under the Faceless and the Demons and many feel that its the end of their race.
The Demons themself have occupied the old Griffin and Unicorn Empire. Parts of the former empire has been transformed into a volcanic wasteland where the demon Sovereign rules from.
The Demons are quickly advancing but seem to be looking for some kind of ancient artifacts related to the Elemental Dragons. On the main continent, they are mostly focused on the strong and valiant Dwarfs.
After Arantirs fall, new lords took control of Heresh. Many humans who had witnessed the fall of the newfound Unicorn Empire had freely joined the ranks of the Necromancers and Death Knights.
The Undead serve directly the Demons and are preparing a final assault on the Silver Cities. At the same time, a few rebel undead still heed the call of the Great Spider and will fight for Arantir.
The Orcs were quickly enslaved and corrupted by the Demons. The Demons have constructed large factories around Ranaar to convert the Orcs into full demon-blooded beasts.
But not all Orcs have fallen under the Demons influence. Some tribes, led by Kujin herself, has managed to escape the corrupted tribes. Rumors say that they reside in the tundras to the north, Transboreas.
The alliance and hatreds after Queen Isabels War remain and the Dwarfs, Wood Elves, Humans and the Zehirai are united in the Union. They seek to restore order and peace in a doomed world.
On the other side, the Demons have gathered Orcs, Dark Elves and Undead under them as the Legion. A Legion that seeks to consume Ashan in ashes and embers and in the end bring chaos to the universe for the glory of Urgash - the primodial Dragon of Chaos.
Now it is time for YOU to choose a race and faction to fight for through the doomfires of Ashan.
Will you fight for the Union to restore peace and order to Ashan? Or for the Legion to bring chaos and destruction to the continenent and later the world? Or perhaps you will betray your own factions and fight for the enemy instead.
Before Ashan would be reborn in chaos, the surviving races would fall in darkness and corruption.
In Champions of Ashan you get to choose your own destiny, and the fate of others. The fate of Ashan and the destiny of your people lies on you hands.
Game Mechanics & Features
Valiant Hero of Might and Magic is a free-roaming RPG. In the game, there are 2 major storylines. Eclipse of Chaos (Legion) and Dawn of Order (Union). There are eight sub-storylines, each race has its own. Alongside this there are several minor sub-plots which might affect the 2 major or the racial storylines later.
It is possible to swap over from Legion to Union and vice versa, though it would involve a long questline.
Storywise, VHoMM can be considered a sequel to Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
It is possible to play with other people through services such as Xbox Live and the Internet, so the game is not nescessary single-player. Through the game you will encounter several orginisations such as Cults, Guilds and Orders. These will give you different kinds of quests. Quests can also be gained from joining the army and fighting in on the front. There will be more details on this later.
Skill & Experience System
Combat
VHoMM is designed for both PC and Xbox360. When you use an ability or spell you can "charge" it to deal more damage and cause additional effects. Without any Iniative, it takes 9 seconds for a spell or ability to charge completly.
You can spend your Experience points to upgrade a spell or ability, so that it is granted yet another effect when charged. Different classes charges differently.
A Scout might want to open combat with small charges to apply poisons while a Mage might want to start combat with a large Fireball.
Experience
Experience is gained through completing quests and killing monsters. The better and more valiant you fight, the more experience you will get. Experience can then be spent in the Skill Tree and Skill Panel.
Skill Tree
Each Class has a Skill Tree. The Skill tree is splitted in three branches. Each of the branches improve an aspect of your class. For instance, the brances of the Priest would be Retribution, Holy and Sanctity. Rertibution would then improve the melee aspect of the Priest. Holy the healing aspect and Sanctity the ranged aspect. The brances of the Skill Tree shapes the class and your playstyle.
Skill Panel
Not only can your hero spend experience in the Skill Tree, but also in the Skill Panel. The Skill Panel already exists in Heroes of Might and Magic V. There, it contains skills such as Logistics, Enlightenment and Sorcery.
The Skill Panel in Valiant Hero of Might and Magic works in the same way. For experience points, the Hero can venture to various parts of the world to research skills such as Offense or Sorcery.
And just like in Heroes of Might and Magic V, each class has their own skill. Priests have Meditation, Warriors Bloodrage etc.
There are four levels of the class unique skill, the ultimate unlocks a very powerful ability. The Skill setup is a bitdifferent between the Union and the Legion.'
Otherwise there are 3 levles of Skills. Basic, Advanced and Expert. Like in H5, there are three slots for sub-skills.
Union Skills
B/A/E Offense: Offense increases the physical damage you deal by 10/20/30%. Note; Ranged weapons deal Physical damage. Retailation: Gives you a 20% chance to strike back at an enemy when attacked.
Tactics: Increases Adrenaline, Might and Steam regenration by 25%
Wrath: Increases your Attack by 3.
Butchery: Your attacks strke two additional enemies for half damage dealt.
Requiers Class Skill 2.
Enrage: Each time you are attacked you get a 3% damage increase stacking up to 5 times. Lasts 10 seconds.
Requirs Wrath and Class Skill 3
Stats
Game mechanics in VHoMM is strongly influnced by those in H5 and Dark Messiah. In VHoMM the stats are: Attack, Defense, Agility, Health, Spell Power and Knowledge. There are two Might stats, 2 Neutral stats and 2 Magic stats.
Attack: Attacks boosts physical damage and certain damage over time effects such as Bleeds, Poisons and Disease. Each point of Attack boosts direct physical damage by 10 and damage over time effects by 5.
Defense: Defense absorbs direct physical damage. Defense does not protect against magic, bleed, disease or poison effects. Each point of Defense migrates 5 Physical direct damage.
Agility: Speed and Iniative has been combined to Agility. Agility reduces the time to charge spells and abiltiies by 0.1 seconds per point. Agility also increases movement speed and attack rate by 0.25% per point.
Health: Health determinates who long you will stay alive. Health is a flat out number which can be increased or decreased through attacks and spells.
Spell Power: Spell Power is the magicans equlant to Attack. Direct spells are boosted by 10 damage per point and damage over time spells by 5.
Knowledge: Knowledge increases the duration of your spells by 3% per point and your amount of Mana, Dark Energy and Runeforce by 5% per point.
Character Creation
In VHoMM, there are eight unique races and 13 different factions. The core classes are the Hunter, the Scout, the Mage, the Priest and the Warrior. Depending on your race, the core classes might change slighly in appearance and with abilities to fit the Ashan lore. Then there are the racial classes.
After the main storyline is finished, you will age all the time normally unless you drink potions or visit the temple often. Some classes live longer then others after the game, classes such as Priests or Mages. If you die of age, which is hard if you dont want tooŽdie, there will be an option to contiune to play in the same world as your child.
If you eat much and move little, then you will get chubby and eventully fat. If you fight and move much, you will grow muscles. Physical classes such as Warriors have it much easier to gain muscles. Muscles provide a small boost to physical damage.
VHoMM is not turn-based and there are five core classes. Scout, Hunter, Warrior, Priest and Mage. Alongside the core classes, there are 8 racial classes. The Tinker is unique to the Zehirai and the Warlock to the Dark Elves etc.
Racial Classes
A list of the racial classes and the rescourse systems they use. Each racial class has a counter-part that in some ways mirrors them. Shaman VS Ranger, Paladin VS Demon Lord, Warlock VS Rune-Mage and Necromancer VS Tinker
Wood Elf = Ranger (Adrenaline)
Human = Paladin (Might and Light)
Dwarf = Rune-Mage (Runeforce)
Zehirai = Tinker (Steam)
Orc = Shaman (Adrenaline)
Demon = Demon Lord (Might and Chaos)
Dark Elf = Warlock (Elemental Strength)
Undead = Necromancer (Dark Energy)
"...the Elves would see their ancient inheritance over Ashan end and wait... is that Asheera!?"
At the start of the game, you are not free to walk wherever you want but you have to complete the pre-quests introducing you to the world. And it will take some time before you get the option to switch faction. Switching faction will reset or remove all quests etc on your orginal faction so if you switch back you will basically need to start over again.
However, the questline to switch a faction is quite long so you will get time to think and see the consequences before you swap.
The Union
In Ages of Darkness, alliances are nescessary for the survival of Ashans pure races.
The Union are four factions that have remained together ever since Queen Isabels War. The Unions headquarters are hidden deep within the Dragon's Spine mountains. The Unicorn Empire and the Free Cities have merged, creating the Confederation. The four remaining duchies have also united as the Griffin Convenant.
In the west parts of Ashan (which also is the name of the continent) the Wood Elves of Irollan are isolated from the rest of the Union, surroanded by the shattered Unicorn Empire and the outer regions of Ygg-Chall.
In the southern reaches of the land lies the Silver Cities. The people of the Cities are shattered and currently led by the famous archmage Jhora who fought viliantly during Queen Isabels War. She is assisted by the djinn Galib.
The Dwarven land of Grimheim is under constant siege by Demons and other Dwarf clans trying to take power. Just like Zehir, Wulfgang died defending Ashan.
The Demons are apporaching from underneath the mountains and the Dwarven people has been forced to evacuate to the surface. Many Dwarven people live in the Stag Duchy today, one of the last surviving lands of humans.

Humans
The Humans have always been a proud and strong race, taming poweful beasts such as the Griffins and the Roc of the Dragon's Spine mountains. The powerful Falcon Empire ruled over the majority of humanity for many years untill it was replaced by the Griffin Empire. After Queen Isabels War the Griffin Empire had already fallen and the Unicorn Empire took its place.
But the Unicorn Empire as short lived. It only existed for merely ten years untill the Demons unleashed a full-scale invasion.
People were encouraged to flee to the Free Cities of the East and Queen Freyda did so along with many others. Many didnt want to leave their homes though and around half of the Griffin Empires human population had been killed.
The surviving Duchies (Stag, Raven, Greyhound and Unicorn) formed the Griffin Convenant and King Duncan stayed with them to fight the Legion, a new force between the Undead, Demons, Dark Elves and Orcs.
The Unicorn Empire had soon officialy fallen and Freyda had merged the remains of her Empire with King Cedrikks Free Cities into the Confederation. This was the end of the human empires.
Humans and retained the alliance to the Silver Cities, Irollan and Grimheim. Together they became the Union. The Unions headquarter is located deep within the Dragon's Spine, in the hidden city of Eagle's Crest. Rumors say that the Order of the White Dragon have returned and rule the Union from within.
Such information remains unconfirmed thought and most people doubt that the Dragon Knights and their allies have returned.
The Confederation are in conflict with the savage Orcs to the east.

Story
The Story is probably the most important aspect in an RPG. There are 4 Acts in the game. Introduction, Begining, Campaign and Finale. After each Act, the world will change radically. The Introduction Act is different for all races though the rest of the Acts are pretty much the same for all races.
Introduction
The Introduction Act is different by all races.
Human; Fallen Empire
I will refer the player character as Rob here.
The Griffin Empire has fallen and the Unicorn Empire was short lived. Now a growing volcanic wasteland is taking the folorn empires places. Necromancers have taken over the old capital city of Talonguard and the betrayer Sareth walks amongst the ruins of a once proud and strong nation that fought valiantly for Glory and Order.
Rob is the son of a successful farmer. His home has not been affected by the Demonic invasions. But one night, the farm is attacked and destroyed by a band of Orcs, comming from the south. His parents are killed and he swears to avenge them. Rob fights a couple of Orcs when he leaves the farm and ventures to the nearby town of Twinfalls. Its located alongside the mountains in the Unicorn Duchy. Its named for the two great waterfalls in the town, comming down from the mounntains.
The city is defended by Wood Elves by the citizens see it as occupation. Rob does many tasks to the citizens of Twinfalls to get the towns reputation.
Soon, the elven general Gilraen (who is heavily wounded and has one arm) notices Rob. He sends out Rob on some dangerous missions, including using a Griffin to spy on nearby Dark Elves. He also saves Griffin eggs and destroys a Dark Elf cavern entrance to Ygg-Chall. So you do various of missions to intercept nearby Orc encampments etc. Finally, you get Gilraens reputation and he sends a recommendation for you to the Griffin Army of Liberty.
So your off to the Griffin Convenant capital of Castlegate. There you are sent on more dangerous quests. The leader of the Griffin Convenant is King Duncan. Queen Freyda was sent to the sanctuaries of the Free Cities, alongside with the retired queen Isabel.
Duncan suspects that there is a larger force of Orcs hidden in the mountains and that they have connections to the Demons.
So you are sent to the mountains once again and you find the Orc Cheif talking with the demon ambassador.
As you brutally slaugther the Orcs you discover a secret entrance to the caverns below. To your suprise, you discover a huge subterrain laboratory operated by Dark Elves. They are infusing even more demon blood and chaos energy into the Orcs, to make them red and ferocious. You get caught but manage to escape back to Duncan. But its to late.
These demonic Orcs attack together with some Dark Elves. This is the "Challenge" and last mission in Twinfalls.
You smash Goblin hordes with Catapult boulders. Fight Orc Warriors and Slayers. Kill Shamans who empower the Orcs. Fight more Dark Elves and the last boss is a demonic Cyclop.
You need to take control over a Ballista to defeat it. The Cyclop destroys the Baliistas with his Eye Beams (which you must avoid). So you need to enter direct combat with it. You need to avoid all its attacks and to only way to kill it is to use a Mirror of Reflection to redirect the Eye Beam back to the Cyclop. You get the Mirror of Reflection earlier from a quest.
The town is successfully defended and now comes the last part of the Begining act. King Duncan sees something in you and recommends you to find the Free Cities of the East. It is there your destiny awaits. Its also now that you can buy a Horse for the first time. A long journey lies ahead, through the now volcanic wastelands of the fallen Griffin Empire. Demons occupy the area and many besieged towns (home to the Undead now) lies ahead. There are some surviving Keeps and towns on the way for quests.
In the end, you reach the town of Ashwick where you travel to the Free Cities with a caravan. Stonehelm is besieged and the final battle is there with Undead, Demons and Orcs to fight. You finally reach the capital of the Union, Stormdale. Its located deep within the mountains. Finally, you can rest.

Core classes: Scout, Warrior, Priest, Mage, Hunter
Racial Classes: Ranger (Welf), Paladin (Human) Rune-Mage (Dwarf), Tinker (Zehirai) - Warlock (Delf), Demon Lord (Demon), Necromancer (Undead), Shaman (Orc)

Of course there are, but the game (its still not clear if I can make a video game or not) itself is set on the main continent, where H5 takes place. You get to play from the northern tip of the Shrouded South to the dwarf kingdom Grimheim in the north. From that unknown region south of Irollan and the entrances to Ygg-Chall to the begining of Ranaar in the east.
I didnt find any Ashan map on google anymore.

Xerox, look at me, I'm the judge, right now, and as long as I'm the judge and no one more reasonable steps up, one must be able to play this game on a forum (like the bard's glade), so spell and skills lists are good, but... let's say... complex stats and damage calculation is frowned upon, easy and feasible damage calculation and stats business are applauded and single player campaigns carry the death penalty.
In short: No, not a video game.
Long answer: If you can see to it that it is practical and playable on a text-based format, then I'll allow it. Bonus points go to the person who baffles me and proves to me that complex damage calculation don't halt the flow of the game. In fact, I award several bonus points to the people who can do this, because I can't think of a way to make this possible...
Levelling is allowed, along with spells, skills, feats, and such. basically, even DnD-esque rules are totally fine with me, as long as you don't sacrifice gameplay for it.

I will wait for someone else to post a bit of their entry first then. See it as research
I mean how are you supposed to "play" in a forum with only text lol?
"Hi, my name is Rob. Rob aimed his bow at the foul beast and shoot away a Precise Shot, followed by a Crippling and Aimed Shot. The Gnoll approached him but he managed to finish it off with a Twin Blade attack. The Gnoll fell at Robs feet and suddenly a flash of light surroanded him followed by a loud echo. He was level twelve!"
An hour later.
"Rob was walking in the forests of Irollan when suddenly he heard something. He turned around but didnt see anything. He starred at the tree tops, but nothing was there. He contiuned to walk through the woods when suddenly he turned around as a Dark Elf assassin tried to stab him.
- Masheera! I should have known!, he said and called for the beasts of the forests to assist him in the battle.
- You managed to escape last time but I dont think you will be so lucky this time, Rob af Qeril! she said and throw two daggers at him. Rob avoid and reflected the attack with a Quick Shot. He jumped aside as the Dark Elf tried to cut him. He called for the Great Eagle and the Eagle grapped the Dark Elf with its talons and flied her away to the caverns of Ygg-Chall"

I'm not sure what to do right now.
I will either gouge my eyes out just so I don't have to live in fear of being exposed to any more of the most distilled and purest form of idiocy known to man that is Xeroxerdux's posting; or rant about it for a few lines of text and then go get some icecream to soothe myself with a mellow sugar rush induced high and get back to lurking around in HC and scheming my evil schemes.
P.S. I will be making entry at some point.

Thanks keksi, we gotta keep the noobs in check
Xerox, these roleplays have greater emphasis on story, possibility, character development and originality. It's important to show the people who potentially want to play this game that you do have some place to go in mind. These games can't be like WoW, nor like fable, nor like a lot of the so-called 'RPG's' of this day and age. The few things that can be close are the nwn and the baldurs gate games.
Making those grand walls of text can also scare away certain people. If it has valuable information on it, then expert roleplayers can get a kick out of a rich and deep backstory. I will keep this in mind when grading, by the way. Create a rich, fantastic world or a mundane world with interesting concepts on the fabric of reality or views on human life. I'm tossing vague concepts around. You pick em up, copymachine

Its not my fault I have never ever played forum RPGs
So I guess it has to be turn-based or something?
Like:
Pandora (Mage) casts Mindlock! Kekimastion is set out of play for three turns.
Adrius (Paladin) uses Hand of Freedom on Elvin (Hunter). Elvins iniative is boosted by 2 for 3 turns. During this time, Elvin will be immune to all control effects such as Cripple or Paralizing Poison.
Well, I guess that would fit as an unofficial sequel to Dark Messiah in the form of a forum rpg... and the iniative system works good.
I will check out some RPGs and do some research to figure out how it works. Hopefully I can come up with some mechanics. As its related to the HoMM, it will also use the same stats such as Speed and Iniative etc. Perhaps someone will post an entry so I can see how it works.
Its not similar to WoW in any way If you were a human you could very well play with a Demon, who has breake free from the chains of the Sovereign.

Uhhhmmm, Xerox/Xerdux, a tip would be to simply READ a couple of RPG threads, then you might get how most is played. ^^
Dagoth: And I'm not signing up (even if that isn't surely, I might sketch something up....this is not a promise) but I'll surely follow this thread.
