Earthlings

...is a documentary Movie 'bout how we treat animals...I advice anyone willing to see the reality who hasn't watched it yet to watch it as soon as you can afford 95 minutes - this time's not wasted, it's probably gonna make you think!

A question - is it another production about horrible treatment of animals?

If yes - what is the point of watching it?

Most people already know how it looks like. Seeing a horse beaten to death won't do much except that it will leave bad taste in your mouth.

@totoro ... indeed ... we are a most destructive, cruel species

@doomforge: well, maybe not everyone has wathced such a documentation yet, or that's what I thought. And i can't say why, but this movie left a big impression when I watched it an hour or a couple ago, that's why I posted about it here...

Others choose blissful ignorance over inconvenient truth any day. I don't think most people know the extent of damage we do to other living beings, hence the documentary is good.

People would not stop abusing animals, no matter how many documentaries we make. There are too many interests at stake.

Imagine for example the fashion industry. Lots of products are tested on animals, not to count their fur and skin are used to make fashionable products.

Show me a country where the women would give up lotions, crocodile bags, fury coats, real bunny slippers etc. Sadly, I think it's useless, really.

Well it is about how you perceive things. For example, I know my personal recycling has no effect on the climate, just like my vote has no effect on the person getting elected. But it is when people stop making effort to do things that things get really bad.

It is true that people don't care, or at least they are too lazy to do anything about it. Hence we need just enough people to come aware of the problem so they can make themselves heard (loudly) by the government, and they can set proper regulations.

Sure, keep watching how people kill and torture animals 24 h per day... it will do soo much good. -_-

...

I think it's really enough to see that kind of behavior once. No need to torture yourself again with those kinds of "documentaries".

Do you watch executions or torture, too? Or do you choose "blissful ignorance" over "inconvenient truth" ?

I really think once we're aware of such monstrosities, we don't have to "increase our awareness" again. Hence I asked whether it's what I think it is or not.

I get it you don't want to watch those things, and neither do most people.

But why do you have such a big problem with us who do want to watch it? Just ask yourself

This movie made me vegetarian.

I still eat steak though, because it's like my favourite food. Oh, and lamb. And pork.

Wait, did I say vegetarian? I meant omnivore. That's one up from carnivore for those of you who missed out on childhood.

I strongly recommend to read about those. Let your imagination do the job. Should be more than enough if you want to learn about those things. Watching those kinds of documentaries really lives a bad taste in your mouth, unless you are, idk, a sociopath and don't give a ****.

Just my sincere warning.

Documentaries are just as viable as books, please. If you prefer the other over another, by all means do. But did you just give me a warning of not turning into a sociopath? Or what was that warning about..

It's really easy. Don't watch those. Read, instead. You can feel safe only if you're a sociopath, otherwise, it will really leave a bad taste.

You are not meant to be safe.. that is the whole point. If the book doesn't makes you feel anything it does not give the same effect. Statistics really don't make you want to campaign against animal cruelty at all at much as knowing what animal cruelty really is.

I have to say I'm more on minions side here...I mean, its the JOB of this documentary to leave a bad taste and I can give you an easy way to get it off: SOLVE those problems. And I'm sure it could be done, if we all weren't too greedy, cowardish or lazy. I mean, attitudes like "I can't change it anyway" opened Germany for the nazis, to give only one example!

...also I have to say I like such documentaries because they make me feel better on personal problems^^ I mean, what does me not getting a particular girl (for instance) mean in comparison to...what was it? 19.000 animals dying for science per day? (or were it more?)

@titanium: I'm no vegetarian after watching this movie XD Just a bit more conscious bout things.

Seriously, what do you people expect?
We let a billion of OURSELVES starve, we sell children of our species, we deal with organs, we kill ourselves, we fight wars against ourselves - what would you expect us to do with OTHER species then? Treat them fairly? With respect? Care? Sympathy even?

That's the problem. We always think that we must solve our problems first.

The sad fact is that, yes people have been murdering each other horribly, caused massive wars, etc... but we are here, with more numbers than ever, and many species have gone extinct.

I would say animals have been much more influenced than ourselves. I'm not saying our horrible treatment of fellow humans is ok, I'm saying that it's a bit behind the horrible treatment of other creatures.

Species have gone extinct well before us - that's part of evolution. Humans are not very long in the position to even think about preserving species. Humanity has grown, and if it did so, then it was because the species human has adapted well. If that was bought with the extinction of other species then that's nothing special.
It's not our task to make sure that every species survives  or something.
In the end, if we kill too many, if we waste too much of the eco-system, we'll kill ouselves, and that's evolution then as well

...and that's teh evolution and it's well?

I got to say, I'm not believing in any religion, I'm not Hindu, or Christian or Jewish or anything and I do not believe in "supernatural" phenomenons really...but haven't you ever asked yourself if there's more than science, more than this filthy (however glamorous it may seem) life we live, playing computer games, watching tv, going to work, day, and day, and day...I am NOT speaking of some kind of paradise or that stuff...just don'T you think there are more factors on you than those you get by your senses and your rationality? What about emotions? What about Ethics? I feel (and I got no better word here, sorry, that harming other living beings is WRONG, terribly wrong, and this has nothing to do with if we ever have to pay for it, which we, I fear, won't since I don't know this world to be just. It's just wrong, how effective and comfortable it might be...I'm not saying I'm good in that matter...I eat meat, and I like to eat it...but one could at least accept the truth that there could be better treating of animals than we have now, and pass it, and DO something!

Evolution? YOu could excuse tooo much dirty crimes with this phrase, allthough I allways liked it in my biology classes
