Lords of Darkness (IC)

Hello! Welcome to the world of Arnier. It is a typical medieval rpg with a twist.
Key:
Green=friendly
Brown=neutral/wild
Red=Hostile/enemy

Here is the thing, you are not more powerful than any other person in this game, including npc's. Sure you may be able to handle a couple of weak peasants, but killing dozens of soldiers ain't gonna happen. Except with me, cause I control all NPC's. If you make up a character, it ain't an NPC. I will also be controlling the five lords of darkness that have plagued the world of Arnier with death and destruction for years. You can be good and evil, but in the end, you are against the five lords. The objective of the game is to kill all 5 lords. You can only be a human, elf, or dwarf however. By the way, no magic (except low-class telepathy)!!! Only super powerful allies and my bad guys can do that. There are no preset classes, just go ahead and do your thing, but you are never super strong, remember that. Note that I may actually change something happening in the rpg for the storyline.
In this rpg, you have to find the five lords from clues given by certain npc's (even enemy ones) and other things though the lords will constantly give you trouble. By the way, just because a region has a certain type of name, it doesn't mean that the place is where the lord is, but they are great places to start.
Here are the names of the Lords and their pics.

Lord Karyllus- a former knight that turned down the path of evil and was twisted by his vengeance against the King Armerion. However, though he does pose a serious threat to the Kingdom of Arnier, he only works with the other lords and doesn't have any servants or strongholds of his own, which makes him harder to find, but he is weaker than all of the other lords since he is still a mortal human, but still a powerful adversary.

Lord Asmodeus- a widely known and infamous dark sorcerer, Asmodeus is known simply as the face of evil. In fact, it is said that he is not from the world of Arnier, but a demon from an dark celestial plane. He has the most extensive amount of fortresses and servants of all of the lords and is considered to be the most magically skilled, though the true power of all of the lords have yet to be exercised.

Lord Voragnath- unlike other dragons, Voragnath can actually transform into a human form and act as such. It was for some hundred years that people started seeing this powerful dragon fly through the Arnier skies. However, in recent years, since King Armerion was crowned (he's not the dragon by the way) people have stopped seeing the dragon and felt that this land scorching terror was over, but since he "left" more and more goblins and orcs have been swarming throughout the land, but in roving bands rather than in actual armies.

Lord Oradjieth- more of an urban reference than an actual terror, Oradjieth's power comes from his unpredictability and sneakiness. He commands some of the forces of the dead, but only as servants, his true allies are aristocratic humans that have allied with the dark lord for many various benefits. However evil he may be, he is considered to be the most understanding and kindest of the five, which is why he has a powerful secret necromancy cult that worships him.

Lord Noxrama- almost nothing is known about him. He is only referenced once in an ancient Demonic Book that was translated by the greatest scholars and historians all across Arnier. Apparently, the other four hold only parts to a clue that may reveal his location to you, but it can only be translated by the priests at the temple of light in the Arnier Capital City.

Regions and their descriptions:

Capital City: The capital of the unified nation of Arnier, it is easily the largest city in Arnier. Though it has many great and wondrous buildings and people, it has a very heavy dark side as well, for it is home to the largest amount of poverty in Arnier. The Capital City is so large, no one person has ever been to every section of that massive city. That is why some cults have been flourishing within the city's thick walls, and some of them are not so friendly to the main populace of Arnier...

Volan Forests: Volan is the homeland of the elves. Though they are part of Arnier, the Volanians tend to separate themselves from their human neighbors, jealous of the human's great technological successes, though they do pride themselves on their much greater agility and speed. Volan is one gigantic forest, and it was said that it used to cover all of Arnier before the Dark Lords and other dark creatures arrived.

Goldguard City: Considered by most to be the most beautiful city in Arnier, Goldguard's buildings are actually built upon the huge goldguard trees from which the city was named. Though it is right next to the swamplands where some dark beasts are rumored to dwell, Goldguard has received no attacks or threats from the swamplands, therefore removing the need for walls or other defensive structures, allowing the city to grow even more. Though the city itself is not as massive as the Capital City, it's territory is much larger.

Arnier Country: The body of Arnier, this region is purely known as Arnier. Towns, villages, farms, and small cities dot these grasslands. However, it is the perfect attack for raiders, be it Dark Lord servants or not.

Tebran Island: This mountainous island was colonized by Arnierans 60 years ago, since then, major development in the colony has been successful. However, recently, spice shipments from the island have been intercepted and destroyed by pirates or Dark Lord servants.

Dwarfholme: An underground city fortress, Dwarfholme is under constant fear of a surprise invasion of the Dark Lord's armies. It is the only place dwarven city left after Voragnath had destroyed all of the others. From the rest of the Olgo mountains came remnants of the once great dwarven empire. Know it is known as a refuge for those that wish to stay in their homeland, while the rest usually travel south to the main Arnier country, but ever since the Tower of Darkness appeared and more marauders have clustered around the road leading south, fewer and fewer dwarves have taken the risk of fleeing to Arnier.

Swamplands: A primarily and useless region, the swamplands is left alone and no one wants to go in there. Not only is the climate, bog, and incessant mosquitoes stopping anybody from going there. There are rumors of a dark creature that dwells within, killing all that enter. Fortunately, not many people go to the swamplands.

Rivenwastes: The Rivenwastes are a barren rocky desert with almost no value at all. It was once inhabited by orcs, but a long time ago, they have migrated into the northern region now known as Orc territory.

Rivenwaste Canyons: Though a marvelous and spectacular sight, the canyons are often overlooked and forgotten, attracting goblins and kobolds to the region of their own free will.

Trollund: A wild rocky and hilly land that belongs to the trolls, a dim witted, but obscenely strong race. Nothing much happens around there, people just avoid it, though it is rumored that the trolls have been recruited into the Dark Lords' armies. However, it is not certain, and there has been no violence emanating from Trollund and the trolls.

Tower of Darkness: This used to be part of the Dwarven country, but recently a huge black tower has been erected on the tallest hill in that region. However, no evil creatures or anything like that has ever been seen in the area, though raiders and bandits frequently use the roads there.

Death Wood: Death wood is a dark forest that grew on the black slopes of a huge volcano. It was given it's name because all of the trees there died one day, and no one knows why. Before that it was known as the Valian Forest. Now strange creatures inhabit the woods, and a traveler once claimed seeing a zombie ambling through the woods there...

Hellfrost Valley: Hellfrost Valley is part of the Dark Mountains. It's name is given by it's ungodly cold weather. Recently, a traveler wandered through there and thought he saw a fortress within the snowy mountains near the Hellfrost Valley. What's more is that he saw large camps of people and creatures there. However, they did not look like they were arming for war. In fact he said they were excavating something like a tomb.

Dark Mountains: It's name is given only because of the color of the mountains' natural color (black), due to the proximity of the Death Wood Volcanic mountain. However, since a fortress was seen, built over there, people have been spreading evil rumors about the place. What is certain is that goblins live in some of the caverns of those mountains.

Death Wood Citadel: Once a castle built for guarding against the orcs, Death wood Citadel is now controlled by a Dark Lord. However, no armies or strange things are seen there. Just a citadel with a Dark Lord inside. It is near the top of the dormant Death Wood Volcano.

Orc Territory: Orc Territory is (as you have probably guessed) home to the orcs. They used to make constant attacks against Arnier, but recently their attacks have been reduced to small parties of orcs and goblins raiding villages and farms outside of the Arnier national borders.

Mistenvale Forests: Just an old and sprawling forest that has been there since time immemorial, Mistenvale Forests have been home to some of the strangest and most fascinating creatures ever. However, nothing evil has ever swept the forests which is why it's tall trees are only rivaled by the Goldguard trees in Volan.

Olgo Mountains: Formerly part of the dwarven nation, the Olgo Mountains are dotted with dwarven ruins and mines, which are now inhabited by goblins and kobolds. Recently, a large goblin invasion had swept the remaining dwarves of the Olgo mountains to the last refuge of Dwarfholme.

Inira Island: Though mapped and charted, Inira Island hasn't actually been explored by anybody before though it does look similar to the Tebran Island.

<Capital City>
Vulkan was happy. He sold every single tool and horseshoe in the market today. After buying some extra iron and bronze bars, Vulkan and his packmule went to deliver the last goods. Walking to the palace he saw some refugees from the dwarwen lands. He saw despair in their eyes. Vulkan didn't worried about the threat of the Dark lords, as his farmstead was near the city. The only thing he worried about were firewood and wolves in winter.
- Who goes there?- a halberd appeared near his face. Vulkan pushed it away.
- Hey, watch were you point that. I'm here to deliver the shipment.
The young guard look suspiciously at Vulkan.
- What shipment?
- Do you want to tell your captain that I got to reforge these new and shiny halberds- he pointed at the box on his packmule- into more usefull tools just because you wouldn't let me pass?
The guard looked like a total imbecill.
- Hey Lagno! Let him pass! It's Vulkan!- the captain waved at him as he aproached. Vulkan shook his hand.
- Strong grip as always!
- You know me Gemarn. I must say the new guards are quite rude.
- Kids. Hey you two!- he shouted at two slacking guards- get your arses here, and get that crate to the armory!
He turned to Vulkan, as the guards carried the crate.
- Here's your pay. In gems as you requested. Did you knew that the basterd Karyllus has been seen?
- Karyllus? Ah, I remember. I forged him a shield and sword out of the finest dwarwen adamantium for him. And this is the graditude I get? If I'll find him I'll strangle him with my bare hands!
- Cool down big guy. Some one will get to him eventually. Thanks for the new weapons by the way.
- It's my duty and a great honor to serve my king, esspecially in these perilous times. Well my friend, I say you goodbye. The work doesn't stop for a minute you know. I got honey to pick, as well as repair some tools.
- Untill next time, big guy. Bring me a jar or two of your honey to me next time ok?
- You know I will.
Vulkan waved him goodbye as he went through the gate.

Lord Karyllus. That was his title. His true name was Adarthon Vei Karyllus. After eight years of exile, he would have his revenge against the King, Amerion. For King Armerion gave the order that would have the Arnier soldiers kill all within Lord Karyllus's lands for the threat that came from within. Karyllus's beloved, Alina Karyllus, was killed in the attack, provoking an assault by Lord Karyllus and his remaining forces upon the town of Fernbush, destroying vital commercial warehouses and resources. After suffering such a heavy blow, Lord Armerion's grandmaster wizard, Elpharon, placed a curse upon Karyllus in another great battle between the Karyllian and Arnier forces. For 8 years has Karyllus lived, a great weakness upon his soul and a cursed life with no food, drink, or feeling. Still dangerous he is as the cursed power of a dark lord was granted to him by one of the original four. Scholars and historians from all three cities are looking into what depraved act Karyllus had to perform to gain this power. Recently he has been seen near the town his armies assaulted many years ago, Fernbush.

Thane packed everything he could for his long trip.  Armor, his battle axe, he had quite a bit.  Luckily he had a strong back.  With some last minute orders to Snoz, he set out.  He was headed to a nearby mountain where he was to begin his combat training with some elite dwarven fighters.  It had taken quite a bit of funds to 'bribe' his way into training.  It would be worth every copper, however.  They were the best of the best.

Soon he set off, not even bothering to look back.  It was a long but uneventful trip, and soon he was at the gates of the Barracks where his training was to take place.  In his first day of training, they wanted to see what he could do.  So they set up a sparring session with one of their best.  It should have been a slaughter.

He always knew that his family's personal guard was good, even if a bit elderly, and he had taken some lessons.  Apparently he never knew how good his teacher actually was.  He didn't win, he wasn't THAT good, but he deffinately did a lot better then was expected.  His lessons would not take near as long as he had feared.

Two months passed and he was able to fight his instructor to a draw more often then not.  They had a celebration of his graduations, and he had a bit too much to drink.  He stumbled off and fell down into a sewer, passing out.  When he awoke, things were quiet.  Too quiet.  He stood up and dusted himself off.  That is when he noticed a couple of things.  One, he was no longer in a sewer.  Two, the barracks he had trained in for two months was no longer there.  In fact, it was just a barren plain field.

When he arrived back at his home, many things had changed.  People were very suprised to see him alive.  He learned that two years had passed.  Snoz had done very well with his estate and the shop.  He decided to make Snoz majority owner of the shop, and be a silent partner.

One other thing was noticable.  He was now larger then most of those around him.  More muscle mass, taller, and much broader shoulders.  Something had happened in that training facility, the one that apparently didn't nor ever had exsisted.  He may never know what, but he was a changed Dwarf.  Adventure called to him, and soon he would answer the call.  For now he waited.

After an uneventfull trip back home, Vulkan went to check the hollow trees, where he kept his bees. Near one tree he found a recently dead bear and a blooded spiked log used as a swing.
- Well, I needed some fresh fur. You're not gonna be wasted.- Said Vulkan to himself. He lighted up a smoker.- Ok little guys, I want you to scatter for a while.
The bees were flying around him, but didn't stung him. Vulkan picked the biggest portions and went home to get his mule and drag the bear home. After leaving the honey to his sisters to handle, he went to the barn. His mule was enjoying fresh oats.
- Alrighty then, Alkar, you can get back to your meal right after we take one uninvited guest back home.
The bear was a big one, and Vulkan worked up quite a sweat till he skinned it and prepared it's meat for smoking. As he went inside his house, he smelled the scent of a fresh rye bread. His mother poured some stew for him.
- Taruss, do you have any more work today?
- Only a few dented schytes and broken pitchforks belonging to Berthock. I'll work on them tommorow. That blasted bear wore me out.- He took a sip of his mead.
- Berthock's son broke them again?
- Yea. He's clumsy as hell. But at least the lad tries.
- So, got any plans for tommorow? Besides repairing Berthock's tools again.
- The hay's finally dried. And I have arrowheads to melt for our local militia.- Vulkan finished his meal.- Good night mom.
- Good night Taruss.
Vulkan was awakened by some noises and barking outside. Vulkan quickly dressed, grabbed his axe and went outside. Someone was trying to unlock the door to his forge. Vulkan hitted him in the side and torn the thief in half. He saw another one running.
- Hey you!- Vulkan shouted- Stop or I'll release the hounds!
The thief tripped and fell down. Vulkan grabbed him and punched him in the face. Then he tied the thief in ropes and chains, and putted him in a cage. After putting several locks on it, Vulkan went back to sleep.

Vulkan's works were highly valued and prized items, however, it distracts far too much unwanted attention. Thieves and robbers have long contemplated how to get by to Vulkan's highly secured forge and armory. However, after the recent failure by a master thief known as Ebrathor, the Thieves Guild has now requested help from a higher, darker power. The common populace of Arnier suspects Dark Lord involvement, but cannot confirm it, as with the rest of the rumors surrounding their recent ascent to power...

Vulkan washed his face near the well. He has just finished melting down arrow heads for the militia's fletchers and fixing some tools for his neighbour.
- Taruss- his sister handed him a towel- what were the noises outside last night? Thieves again?
- Yes Kupav. Thieves. It's the tenth time in the past few weeks! I mounted one's body near our gate, let the crows feast on it. It'll also serve as a warning for a few days. One is still in the cage I made for trapping wolwes.
- You're sure it'll hold?
- I tied him in both rope and chain. There's no way he'll escape.
- If you say so. So, when we're getting the hay to the barn?
- As soon as you and Salomej will rake it. And as soon as I get back from the militia's outpost delivering the goods and that little mongrel I caught.
Vulkan went to the barn, and prepared Alkar to pull the wagon. As soon as he packed the goods and the thief, Vulkan went to the outpost.

A Gruesome Mystery.

Yesterday, the Mayor of Fernbush, Alvernus Koral was found dead in his study with a dagger through his throat. As if that wasn't gruesome enough, however, it seems as though the murderer has written a bloody note upon the stone walls of the Fernbush manor with the Mayor's blood. The note read: "The Vengeful shall be Avenged, the Fallen shall be Risen, and the the Pure shall be Corrupted."

Scholars and historians have already gone to work to decode this bloody clue so that we may be prepared for any upcoming violence. So far they have found out two things. The first clue, "The Vengeful shall be Avenged" may refer to either Dark Lord Karyllus or the Orc King, Ergath as both evil characters have sworn vengeance against our good kingdom of Arnier. The second clue, "The Fallen shall be Risen" does not ring any bells in our investigator's minds, for as far as they are concerned, there are no evil lords or other villains that have fallen and have the potency to rise again unless risen by the Dark Lord Oradjieth, but even still, there are no mortal villains with such a great power to be worth raising by the Dark Lord. The third clue, however, is more blunt. "The Pure shall be Corrupted" probably refers to us, the people of Arnier, but the well renowned wizard, Elpharon believes that it may refer to something more disturbing, but he says that he is unable to tell us.

Whatever the case, it is almost certain that something evil is brewing up, but we do not have the evidence to declare war on the Kingdoms of the Dark Lords.

In no time, Thane realised something.  He was bored.  Before his trip to the place that didn't exsist, he had never been bored.  Now, he was like a caged lion.  Pacing everywhere.  Something called to him, he wasn't sure what, but he knew he had to answer.  However, first he needed a few things.  Unlike his last trip, he would not be able to take as much.  This journey would be longer, and he would have fewer creatures to lug all of his equipment.  So, after he prepaired everything he once again visited Snoz.

"Snoz, you have always been a valued friend of my family.  I have to leave again, and I may never be back.  You are in charge of everything.  If I do not return in seven years it is all yours.  I will be taking a sizable sum of currency, and some equipment."

Snoz nodded "I da ne think you'd stay long lad.  You've changed, and ifn ye don't mind me sayin, for the better.  I'll hold things down here, da ne ye worry.  It'll be here when ye get back, and ye will get back.  When ye leavin?"

"Tomorrow first light.  Thank you old friend, I knew I could count on you." they shook hands. "I'll stop by before I leave."

The next morning early he stopped by the shop, and Snoz was waiting.  He had a light chain armor, apparently made sometime ago, waiting.  "Like I said, figured ye wouldn't stay long, so I been makin this for just this occasion.  It may ne be plate, but it be lighter and still protect ye hide, though ye hide might be a bit tougher n it." both chuckled at that.  "Ye take care now, it be dangerous out thar."

Thane said his goodbyes, and soon was off.  He had no clue to where, but he'd find out soon enough.

Vulkan whisteled as he drove his wagon to the militia's outpost. The outpost was a small bastion with three round towers, fortified walls, a jail cell, barracks, captain's office and a fletchers workshop. Several bored archers patroled it's walls, and few stood in the towers. Other members of the militia were busy with their chores. Vulkan waved to a young guard standing near the gate. He helped Vulkan to unload the crates with the fresh arrowheads.
- Hey, who's in the cage? Another one of those thieves?
- Yea. They're getting more and more persistant. I got to use up my last dwarwen adamantium to reinforce the door and windows. Thinking of adding some extra spikes around the forge, but it's damn hard to get oak logs these days, and the king's putting up taxes for such goods. I heard that one guy was executed for stealing the taxes on them. Also with the mess going on in Dwarfholme, my mithril and adamantium supplies have been cut off for an unlimited amount of time. Our local variation isn't as durable as dwarven.
- But I thought you get oaken poles without paying extra.
- Poles, Kendrou, POLES. Poles for halberds and spears. And axe handles. That's all the oak I can get, and it returns to the king in form of weapons. A seven centimeter radius logs are what I need. Those are hard to get.
- So you say..?
- That I have to use other trees. Maybe birch or pine. Though it wouldn't hold as long as I wish. Oh well.
Vulkan opened the cage and took out the thief. He was tied as a rabid bear if not worse. He tried to struggle, but received a punch in the face from Vulkan. The rope was tied so tight that it shaved the thief's skin, and was soaked in his blood. He seemed to have tried to escape during the night.
- Whoa! You really wen't berserk on that one.
- I was awakened in the middle of the night, and was forced to get out of my nice warm bed and deal with these vermin.
Captain of the militia walked near them.
- Oh, hi there Vulkan. I see you brought another of your "guests". Just dump him in the cell, and let's go to my office.
Vulkan dropped the thief like a sack of coal, and went to the captains office.
- Beer, Vulkan?
- Sure.
The captain poured some beer into a quite a big mug.
- So, what was you wanted to discuss with me?

Adren Velenhelm was a scholar of the Dark Lore, or rather, a researcher on the Dark Lords. Ever since the King put up more taxes he has been granting large bonuses to the Dark Lore research facilities in hopes of finding the motives behind the Dark Lords' plans. Eventually, he hopes to either destroy them, or at least, bend them to his control. Adren was a new scholar in the Dark Lore Academy near the center of Capital City. Fresh from Capital University, Garanhait College, Adren has been working hard at his new job. So far, he has found almost nothing. However, the murder of the Fernbush mayor and it's shocking message has caused some disruption and unease among the Academy, as well as the rest of Arnier.

A few days later Thane had been lost in the muse of travel.  He really hadn't considered where he was going.  It was not until he realised he was only a few more days travel from the capital that he decided he might as well go see some of his relatives that dwelled in the capital.

The direction he was currently headed in would have him missing the Capital by several miles, so he adjusted course.  He would pass a little village along the way, and it might be a good place to find some supplies.  Big cities tended to cost more, and although money really wasn't a concern, he wanted to save whenever he could.

It was getting dark by the time he reached the edge of the village.  It was eerily quiet, but it wasn't abandoned.  One of the people came toward him, limping, probably some sort of street performer or something.  He'd give them a few coins and send them on their way.  As the figure approached, Thane started to suspect something was amiss.  There was a putrid smell coming from the person..and the back of the figures neck had something that looked like rust on it.

No..not rust.  Blood.  Whatever this was, was missing part of it's neck, but was still walking around.  That is when he noticed that several of the figures were missing things like eyes, flesh from various parts of their body, and the like.   He barely managed to avoid the one close to him lunging at him.

As he dodged and tried to figure what was going on, the rest started closing in on him.  His mind tried to grasp what was going on, and finally it dawned on him.  Undead.  Somebody or something had unleashed these foul creatures on the village, which stood no chance, and then probably just left.  Somebody had probably angered them, or failed to pay some sort of protection, and now they walked despite being dead.

So he didn't have to hold back.  He brought his axe out and squared off against the zombies.  There were quite a few, but it was a small village.  He might..just might make it out alive.  If he was lucky.

With a thunk his axe hit the lead zombies neck, seperating it from the rest of the zombie.  The body fell motionless, the magic that would normally have kept it going despite that no longer present.  Dozens more were closing in, and he was being forced into a corner.  It didn't look good.

Just then he heard horses.  Shouting, commands, and the sound of combat.  Directionless, the zombies were confused as to what to do next.  Which gave him time to burst out of the circle, and take a couple more out with mighty swings.

He had to duck suddenly as a lance almost impaled him, as a soldier from the Capital mistook him for one of the zombies.  "I'm alive!" Thane shouted "I'm not one of them!"

"Throw down your axe then!" answered a voice.  Seeing that the undead were being destroyed Thane immediately complied.  "Sorry about that, didn't expect anybody to be alive here." The rider approached and he was wearing a officers uniform.

"I am just glad you missed.  Any of these things left that you need help with?" Thane felt naked without his axe.

"No, but grab your weapon just in case.  If anybody gets within 15 foot of you and doesn't say anything, attack first ask questions later.  If you are getting near to somebody yell FIRST, they all have the same order.  15 foot, don't forget, don't hesitate."

Thane nodded, and he and the soldiers cleared up the town by day break.  Unfortunately, it was too late for the inhabitants.  Only one had survived, the one that had raced to get the soldiers.  Every other person man, woman, or child had been slaughtered.

The officer once again approached Thane.  "We don't know if any are left in the woods.  It maybe best if you rode with us to the capital."

Thane felt relief.  "Aye, by all means.  There is safety in numbers."

Hours later he went through the gate of the Capital, with a full armed escort.
