Working Map Editor?
Hello, today I decided I wanted to make a map, so I downloaded the new map editor from here: http://wog.celestialheavens.com/en/download/utilities/ but it doesn't work. I think it's maybe because I am using windows vista. (error sais: C:\...\H3WMAPED.exe is not a valid windows 32 aplication) What I am trying to ask is: is this problem solvable? or is there any similar map editor that works on vista available? thanks

Thank you for your quick and helpful replies. I see ppl active on this forum that are good in changing the game, adding monsters, castles, making scripted maps, etc, but it seems they all have no ideea how to answer my 'hard' question ... not even a "go f**k yourself newbie" response so I know I am barking at the wrong tree ... whatever ... someone erase this topic it's usless anyway ..

Hi Lenny,
The truth is nobody knows the answer. It could be Vista, although some people reported the game worked fine with the new OS. Shyranis suggested the following: Well, as I mentioned to another person having problems with 64-bit Vista. You could always install Windows 98 or 2000 from an old CD you have lying around onto a virtual machine using Microsoft VirtualPC. That program is great for running old software without it messing with your new OS' security features.
Or maybe the update went wrong, hard to tell really. Others had similar problems with the patch - see this topic.

"pretty good" means: you have some bugs to report?

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate SP1, this was included in my laptop when I brought it ... maybe it's because I am using Vista, or a laptop, but it's just the map editor having problems ... Heroes 3 works ok, besides some ocazional crashing, but since it's vista that's no surprise. Also the normal map editor works ok... only this editor gives me problems ...anyway.. good to see at least some sort of response. There's nothing worse than talking to yourself

Ok, so I tried everything possible, but nothing works: I installed Windows 7, I've installed a fresh version of heroes 3 complete, newly downloaded version of WOG, and I've put the mapmaker but it still doesn't work. I guess maybe only on XP it works, or it's because I am using a laptop ...
Another problem I encountered, after I said to myself I'll start making a map in normal editor, was that all the creatures had the same discription (pikemen) and all artifacts were spell books, etc ... and if I try the help it gives me an error. I remember once there was a post about this, but I can't seem to find it on search.
Also, I would like to find the erm you can put in normal map editor to let the hero continue after day 7 without castle, but I couldn't find that either. Thank you with anticipation

Is this what you means by everything possible to screw HoMM, right? Because if you wanted it to work, you would install XP instead of switching from Vista to Windows 7.

I had windows vista before, so it was a step closer anyway. I don't have the drivers for the laptop to put windows XP (vista and 7 puts them automatically)
but I did try running it in compatibility mode with XP SP2/windows98, but no difference

I have finally managed to make it work! Under Windows 7. the problem was not the OS for sure, but I still can't figure out what it was exactly. I reinstalled windows 7, I downloaded a version of heroes 3 platinum, and over it I installed wog and the map maker. It works now! whatever the problem was, I am happy I can now start making some maps. I had some ideas, even dough they are not with complicated erm, they have nice story lines hope I will actually do something. Thank you for your help, and nice to still see this community is still active .
