Getting NCF to work in the first place
Well, I have tried 6 times under the course of a few years to install NCF, following the instructions in every detail, but it never works, ever. Trying to look up information on how to install it, I get the same answer every time: "do this and that, and it works." My answer has been "no, it doesn't, it never does, never will."
Obviously, I am doing something wrong, but there is nothing that tells me what exactly I am doing wrong, as every piece of information seem to have left one tiny bit of crucial information out.
H5_Game.NCF.exe and H5_MapEditor.NCF.exe are in the bin folder
NCF__Core.pak is in system.
NCF_MegaPack.pak was put in system and I ran the installer afterwards.
What now? Nothing happens at all, the editor shows no new critters, RTMG finds the megapack file, but cannot do anything about it but complain cryptically.
Can someone give me a hand here?

Quote: NCF__Core.pak is in system.
I don't know « system » about Heroes V
surely you're talking about « data » folder because you said RTMG found the NCF megapack.

Sorry mate, I meant data, I didn't make any folders so yeah, it's in data. Got confused as I was modding another game right before posting this.

you said you are not able to see NCF Creatures into NCF editor.
then if existing...
kill « data/index.bin »
and delete this folder:
{H5 game}\Editor\IconCache\AdvMapObjectLink\MapObjects\_(AdvMapObjectLink)\Monsters\NCF
and delete this file:
{H5 game}\Editor\IconCache\AdvMapObjectLink\MapObjects\_(AdvMapObjectLink)\Monsters\Neutral\Black_Knight
after all of that, run NCF editor and go to monster panel list, NCF must appear.

Thanks! Now all I need to know is what it wrong with the RTMG, it complains on a missing MOD file when i load the megapack, and crashes with a run-time error '70', this stopped at the missing MOD file back when NCF didn't work.
This is not a NCF problem, but I would be glad if someone could help with this as well, the RTMG manual doesn't seem to have this documented anywhere, or am I missing something, again?

ok..
runtime error 70 means "Permission denied"
that happens when a process tries to open/read/write a file during another process is using of it or something is read-only.
then, if Heroes V runs in same time than RTMG, close Heroes V while RTMG is running, especially if RTMG starts after Heroes V
if that not fix your problem, back to me

I didn't have anything running before, and same this time. However, the runtime error no longer shows up, instead, it just doesn't do anything after loading, and still complains on that there is no NCF file loaded.
At first I thought this had to with the RTMG not finding H5_Game.NCF.exe, but as I tried to target it as the executable, it couldn't find it, so I guess it shouldn't, right? Or should it be able to find it, somehow?

Show me some screenshots:
1 - RTMG just before message error
2 - RTMG with message error
3 - details for folder H5 Root, bin, data, UserMODS
screenshots must be all your screen
make a archive of all these screenshots.

Gentlemen, I have been an idiot.
I didn't notice that the little square should be unchecked for it to import, not the other way around that I am used to.
Thanks for the help SimonaK, and your ability to endure my stupidity.
Moderators note: Hope you are ready now. Next time please use the NCF thread.

haha! I'm glad to learn the bug is just that
yes, a ready-to-import item may be checked to ignore it only.
