H6CT2 - Team 2 discussion thread

So that's our place to discuss our great plan.

First, I think, we should agree on soem general things.

1. - The setting. Ashan(H5), Axeoth(H4), Erathia/Enroth(H3), or a completely new one?
I vote for a compeltely new one, because that leaves us most options, we can let our creativity flow freely and create a Heroes in a setting of OUR choice!

2. - The team leader. Who should it be. i think noone should vote for themselves here. And should we perhaps make a secret vote through a mod?

3. - the "task areas". How should we do it? Everyone does a certain thing or we all work together. I'd prefer the last, allthough it's  maybe more complicated, but with everyone having a greater focus on something. And of course (Imo) we all have to work on the general things.
I, personally, woudl like to be at least involved with some faction, creature, hero and skill-creation...

4. - Open or secret working? We could stay here on HC with our discussions and plans, but I think we could also move to a free forum somewhere and plan there, so our final results would be a surprise for the HC - of course we'd update in regular intervals.

And, finally, here are some first suggestions:

A) Factions. Some Factions and races I want to have in, old friends and new surprises:

-Castle/Haven/whatever: The good old racial human faction is just homm-standard, I think we all agree there. It also could be taken in some very different directions, since humans are a rather versatile folk.
-Inferno/Abyss: The Demon Faction, also a must-have since H3. I have to say, this is one of the standards I'd like, but would not need ot have. It would be a nice idea to thrwo them over again and see how it works without them
-Necropolis: Another standard. Not much more to say for now.
-Rampart/Sylvan: A forest-based/wood-elf faction  should be in too, imo, yet I'd prefer maybe less elven units.
-Orcs: I don'T care how we call the town, but an orish faction is another must have. Here, I prefer "true" Orcs above the Ashan half-demonic ones, but that is more into setting, i guess...
-Mages&Dwarves: I have many times considered putting them together in a mountainous faction, similar to tower from H3 and yet different - more dwarvish
-High Elves: I'd really want to see those in our HoMM, imagining them close to castle, but with a glimpse of acadamy maybe, too. Definitely less might-based and more mystical than humans.
-Scaled: Lizardmen or Naga would be cool, I feel.
There could be more, we will see that

B) Campaigns. I'd prefer to re-open the Campaign structure, making it less linear than in H4 & 5 and maybe more similar to H3, or invent something new therefore.

C) New features. There are some new features I'd like to involve, but most I desire an option for ambushs (and, btw. more versatile battlefields, anyway) and random events!

I would consider giving the one with all of us working on the same object.

Also i would like a totally new world.

But where should we start?
Maybe creating the world and the races? Personally, i would like some new races, like an underground one (minotaurs), frostlings and a sea/pirate faction...

Go team JiKraG!, I can handle Factions though, I have excellent ideas! And..., we need AT LEAST Haven, Stronghold, Dungeon, and Sylvan! They were the Factions In Heroes of might and magic 1 and should always be included in!

What about to populate dungeon with minotaurs or something? I was never a fan of H5 dark elves.

And what about elves generally? should we have subraces (High elves, river elves, Wood elves and/or dark elves

EDIT: For where to start: I guess it would be better to start with the general thigns and THEN move on to the more pleasant ones like factions etc, or we'll have to rework on the factions everytime we make changes on something, like magic system, skill sstem etc.

THe main question is: do we work from setting to gameplay or vice versa?

But I am actually more for a might-oriented High elves, while wood-elves are more a H5 dark elves type (strong, but few) and River elves are magic oriented

River elves is a good name! I though tabput Lake Elves a moment but that sounds not too great. WOuld have to think 'bout the castle's name, though.
River Elves also gives some nice creature options, I guess

I like River Elves best, but it's just a matter of taste.

However, I would have liked the high elves and wood elves merged, but the mercenary idea might change my mind. Please tell us about it...

hmmm  I have to confess I like neither of both ideas...high elves, to me, are a noble, most ancient and wise folk, they would not give themselves away as mercenaries, imo...as for merging them with wood elves...sounds a bit like teh "life"-faction from lords of magic...

I understand what you mean, but I don't want too many elves either. I imagined that High elves were pretty arrogant, while the River elves were humble and peaceful.

And what about the setting. Are we going for a new world? I have some ideas to elven history (new world). High elves and Wood elves had battled for long time. the new wood elf king, conquerred them, and the high elves are now a wood elf province. They are supporting with the wood elves with armies (the other reason i merged high and wood elves together).

I do not know if it was good enough or not.

Aaah that's much better I always liked half-elves and had difficulties to make them fit in.
Yet for real mercenaries I had other ideas than a faction in common sense, which I'd like to represent you later.

I would also like High elves as a seperate faction more than together with wood-elves - the latter are nature-living and loving and rather close to the Elvish Origin, where the first (as I see them) are highly cultural living in cities of (magical) stone and marble, highly educated and civilized. That again would be a difference to the River- or Sea-Elves as i imagine them, which is a bit in the middle of the other elven factions.
I now that 4 Elven factions soudn much, but its not necessary too make them purely-Elvish. There are several "lesser" races working perfectly well with many elves and I'd like a very unelfish wood-elven town, too (but don't want to undermine your opinions if you like H5-Sylvan better than H3-Rampart):
gnomes, centaurs, Naga, Halflings, Merefolk, all kind of Magical Cretures, Jinns, all kind of beasts, Elementals...I hope you get the point

Anyway, I havce to go now for today, We'll see in the next days...shall I look for a site to make our own forum btw?

Four elven factions? Are you counting Dark elves? I'm not for Dark elves in our version, but if you and Kraken wants them, it's ok for me. And maybe we should first make a list on races and relationship (atleast between some factions).

To now we are having (races)
Humans
Undead
Wizards/Dwarves
Lizardmen (may be combined with Nagas)
Nagas (may be combined with Lizardmen)
Dungeon (Minotaurs?)
Wood Elves
High Elves
River Elves
Orcs
Demons?
Pirates?
Frostlings?
Avians?
Halflings?(allied with dwarves?)


That means we have 15 factions! I think we should cut someone:
Halflings=dwarves
Demons=Drop (suggested by Jiriki)
Lizardmen and Nagas as one
Then we are at 12. That's still quite alot

I do want the river elves to be more of a neutral race. Politics and warefare do not interest them much. They are mainly using magic.

kraken, I'll just take your post as another proposal, since you do not too much seem to take in our discussion before

I work perfectly well with 12-13 towns, but you both seem to want 11 than that perfectly okay for me. Okay, for 11 towns, 2 suggestions:

A.

1 Human Cities
2 Orcs
3 Wood Realm (wood Elves & Co)
4 Undead
5 Dwarves + Wizards
6 Dark Elves + Demons
7 High Elves + Avians
8 River Elves + Halflings
9 Lizardmen + Naga
10 Frostling Faction
11 Beastmen (no lizardmen and avians, maybe carnivore beastmen?)

i'd drop pirates as true playable faction, then

B.

1 Human Cities(like haven)
2 Orcs, Barbarians + Beastmen
3 Wood Realm (incl. Halflings)
4 Necropolis
5 Dwarves & Wizards + Avians
6 Dark Elves + some Beasts & Beastmen (H3+H5-Dungeon)
7 High Elves living in the norht, with ice/frost theme
8 River Elves (with pirate unit?)
9 Lizardmen + Naga
10 Hive
11 Mercenary faction (Humans, Half-elves, beastmen - pirates?)

I included the Hive here, but I'm extremely sceptical about that, I have to say. I guess it's a so-called insectoid faction? I think there are cooler and more important factions than insectoid ones, if we want less than 13/14 factions. I preferred them before demons here, to make something new, original, form the other homms. But it reminds me a bit of WoW (there WAS an insectoid arch-enem faction once, am i right?!?^^)

I would go for option B, but with some slight differences though. Drop the dark elves and give dungeon to the bestmen. I don't know about the mercenary faction though. Is it an own faction, or some hireables thing? I'd go for the last thing.

Btw, I can't get the forum to work, or well, it does work, but i can't visit the forums where you watch threads


Edit: Also, I'm not for a hive faction. If we are going to have 12 factions, we could have a frostling faction, maybe with Mountain trolls (white/dark blue-purple)?
